Shutterstock.com / Re: Among today's rejections
« on: January 21, 2008, 06:05 »
I just wanted to point how contrast is affecting the photo , and those are just thumbnails so I think there is no need to be picky , is there a problem to add a layer mask a remove the problematic parts ?

I just wanted to say that buyers prefer clouds like that not that they look best , but don't take my word , just browse trough most popular landscapes photos on any site you like and you want find too much natural in them.

Anyway here you go , clouds as the were on original photo ,  I even removed the noise so I dont get noise refusal.  ;D

was the boat ID number visible?  if so i am guessing that would ahve been the reason.  Try taking it away with a clone tool.

No  , the numbers are not visible , and I had similar photos approved before , so I'm thinking if they have a policy to not accept photos like that for some law questions or something , wouldn't it be logical to remove all similar photos without a release from the gallery ?

Aha , and I thought that it was a mistake  ;D

Well , Is it really our fault that some stoned skipper gets in our shot with his boat every time
we are trying to take a photo of a beautiful seascape.

That one time I was trying to shoot a beautiful rural landscape at sunset time , and I wanted a sharp shot , so I was going with long exposure , but while the camera was shooting , someone suddenly built a skyscraper and few factories in the middle of my shot.

Next time , I used f 2.8 and ISO 1600 but I got a noise refusal.

Im just thinking , how the things are going , in close future I will maybe find the way how to get some releases from few skippers in their speeding boats , but someone will have a hard job to teach penguins how to sign a model release.

 ;D

StockXpert.com / Property release for boats ?
« on: January 20, 2008, 20:04 »

Well , I just got few rejections for boats , one rejection for a small wooden boat , one for sail boat at open sea.

Do we need a property release for boats on open sea from now on ?

Well I found hundreds of them in the search engine  , I saw cruisers , tankers , etc , and I doubt that all of them have property release , at least I'm sure for all of mine that were previously approved without any.

I think that there were just small problems with  levels on this photo , so the colors seamed like washed out a bit ,  but nothing that cant be solved in few seconds , even auto levels option gives you the result.

Its interesting that a simple black gradient set on soft light blending mode puts this nice  colorful photo into life especially on photos with sky like this one .

I just played with your photo for few minutes , I was messing with levels on the second one, and added a black gradient on the last one.

Hope you don't mind.

Photo Critique / Re: Critique need for Shutterstock Application
« on: January 16, 2008, 20:07 »
I would avoid skies for application review , one of the best examples where small amount of noise is easily noticable , especially on the dark parts of the sky ,and at SS they don't like noise.

If you do sent them photos with sky , and you said that you use noise reduction as a last step , be sure to use layer mask on the clouds , cause the amount of noise reduction that its
necessary to remove the noise from the dark blues of your sky , will most probably wash out your clouds texture , and you will risk to get refusal for artifacts etc.

I would try to send them 2 -3 simple textures ( stone , metal etc), they are easily to take , its hard to find noise on textures , and from experience I can tell that the don't refuse them. Few of my friends tried with that and it went well every time.

Good luck

Well , its nice to see for the first time that a serious topic with only one point , that we are not treated fair.

In think that something got to change , but I not convinced that this is going in write direction.

I agree on those who say that SX will be punished cause they gave us a possibility to opt out , ( others sites that didnt gave us that choice are protected from that).

Also I dont think resizing will solve the problem , and  many of people that are producing lot of images will find that a pain in the ass , bacause it takes time to resize for some sites , etc.

As I see it ,there is a need of some sort of photographers union in the future , that has to include most of the big dogs.

I had to do that in the first place to open my account or it was optional to raise my limit I don't remember exactly but I did all that, and after almost 2 years of using moneybookers I never had a single problem.

Shutter , for me it still beats all others together

I think thats good news. I doubt that iS will loose a lot of customers. And I do not think the last price increase has hurt iS growth at all. My guess is we will continue to see price increases throughout the microstock industry for the next years.

I agree on that , but the problem is that there will always be sites that will always try to have lowest prices and compete with big ones that way.

I thing that the best thing for photographers  that could happen in the future  is that   contributors form some sort of union , and a strong one. Its never possible to include all contributors , but if  most of the big non exclusive ones were part of souch project , that would start a new era of microstock.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: 1000 = What camera to buy?
« on: December 06, 2007, 05:14 »
If I were in your shoes I would go for a used body , probably 400D , and 70-200 F4 , cheapest L lens but it has better quality than most lenses , including 24-70 and 24-105.
Its sharp enough even at f4 and I jus love that lens. If you find a good deal you could save for 50mm f/1.8 II prime.

But maybe 70-200 it not wide enough for you I don know , but thats just what I would do if I had 1000 and no camera.

Thank you people. I never got one of those till now , so I was confused for a moment .
Since the mails are from few months ago I wont even bother to contact paypal.

Anyway, I was watching a cartoon recently where a character is working on his computer and a hand of another character comes out from the monitor and gives him a quick slap every now and then.

Boy I would love if I could use my hand like that sometimes , on people that are writing those mails. Just for fun.

Thanks again

I just logged on a e-mail that i never use just to check if it still works and I had 2 strange e-mails from few months ago.

Well , I could compare the situation now with the situation this time last year.

I live in Croatia and our currency is kuna , and its lats say stable currency for quite some time.

Last year 100$ was about 550 kuna , and now 100$ is something like 500.

So with a simple calculation , someone who was making 1000$ last year and 1000$ now lost about 10% , or the value of 1000$ this time last year is about 900$ now.

Its is a similar situation comparing Euro and US dollar in the same period.

Thats about how falling of US dollar affects people outside US , but havingn in mind that they have stable currencies in ther countries.

There are currencies that lost more value than US dollar  so people in those countries in fact earn more now than they did last year.

I just followed your link an I was surprised when I notice one of my images there , like you first time this happened to me on any site

Well , I just logged to Bigstock after long time and I saw I had few 2$ sales , so I think it started.

Judging from last 2 days sales , Bigstock could bring a nice surprise  this month

I think you may want to check  your working mode , you are probably saving your photos as Adobe RGB and not sRGB .

I think this may link can help you :

nobody said you had to make a political picture.  So something with the banana, or the frog, you don't have to choose bush.
I'm sure there will be many Bush-head-on-a-mannequin-with-a-banana-in-the-obvious-spot images ...

Or Bush polluting the world, or Bush bombing the world, ad infinitum.

I dare Crestock to replace that image of Bush with a Muslim political figure.  Let's see how long the company will last after they have a fatwa issued out on them.  In other words, the reason people complain against a democratic society is because they can.

While I have never voted for Bush, and don't agree with many of his policies, he is light years better than many other leaders around the world.

Its obvious that they are pointing to all those thing that you mentioned and I cant agree with you more that its not ethical maybe even illegal to state your political principles in a contest like that. Everybody here understand that , some admit  it some don't but thats their problem. I wont participate in a contest like that , and I don't want to be pulled in a cave full of someones else's thoughts even if I share those, for any fruits , even for apples, because I don't think Crestock and a contest is  place for that.

But pleeeeeease , don't start with involving world leaders , Muslims , your political statements , or how Bush is better that anyone cause you will start a political topic

All my images are numbered , and its my way of tracking things ( something I think makes my life easier ) and I submit them like that to all the sites.

The number is only before the name of the image , but not in the Image title in IPTC data , so it does not show in the image name when someone search my images.

I never had problems  that way.

In my country its quite simple , healthcare and music are close connected.

If you catch something serious you can start looking for bands willing to play on a humanitarian concert to raise founds for your operation.

I did once

I was asked If i want to know a secret how to make  my penis 12 inches long in just 3 little steps
in 2 weeks period.

I was totally bored that day so I replied that I know a way of doing it in just one step , and in few seconds , but it scares me to death to cut half of the thing away.

 ;)
