Ruben, thanks for posting here.  Since your intentions are to re-actualize the site, I wouldn't mind having my portfolio up again.  Would it be easy from your side to retrieve the pictures I deleted on Sept.5, or are they completely erased ?

If you have deleted them than they are indeed gone, since we are on a complete new server we don't have access to any backups on the old server.
but i can create an FTP account for you if that makes things easier for you.

Tnx

Bigstock.com / Re: BigStock Sales
« on: November 17, 2006, 15:51 »
well I thought about starting a thread about the exact opposite.

bigstock has been doing really well for me the past two weeks.

I have a 14 day average in my graphs and bigstock has been very stable at $2.50/day for the last 5 months.  Now all of suddent it has risen to $5.00/day and has been stable at that for the last two weeks... so i think things are going to get better there.

Exactly what I'm experiencing at this period

i think kasper was meaning that if a file is selling well DON'T TOUCH IT.  if it isn't selling at all, then it can't hurt changing things around... it just might help.

on a side note.

My 14 day average sales per site now has bigstock earning more per day than istock  ???  This may just have something to do with the fact that I disambiguated all my best selling images about 2 weeks ago :( ... now they don't seem like best selling images anymore

Maybe not , I'm experiencing the same and I didn't touch a thing at istock. I use to have between 7-12 downloads at day over there few weeks ago , now I'm on maybe 1 or 2 some days not a single one.

I saw this image - it is so clearly faked that it cracks me up, there is no noise what so ever, they guy should learn to fake things better it would not be hard to shoot something at ISO 100 and claime it was 1600 ;D ;D

Actually, I don't believe it is a fake. If you look at the bottom corner of the teddy bear photo at 100%, an image he finally posted (after a bit of faffing about and trying to fool everyone) you can see it's howling with noise.

The guy's obviously a troll.

Well ... at least he's good at something.

Betaleur , we are not talking about same photo. We are saing that the gray card photo was blurred and manipulated.  The teddy photo is obviously original , its  full of noise :)

Yes ,I know , i actually had an argue wit the man who claims ISO has absolutely nothing to do with noise. He posted some samples overloaded with noise and claims he made his point and the have no noise at all. Then he shoot a gray card with also with ISO 1600 ,  and blurred that , you can clearly see the artifacts that are left after hard  blur. But more interesting is that the man never uses raw format , he finds it unuseful.

I started to use moneybookers recently.

I had  withdraw 20$ , the biggest sum allowed for the first time. The money was transfered to my bank account. I received a code on my bank account which was necessary for my second withdraw from moneybookers.

How did you request your withdraw , by cheque , bank account ...?

OK i need some more help please. So they lowered the price and said that thats only way that i can get my camera back , and i cant quit at Thai stage and that my camera is finished so i have to pick it today.

I went to pick my camera in the morning , when i got there they changed the price again ( significantly in their favor of course ) but i wasn't in the mood to argue so i payed took my camera and went home.

Guess what , everything is messed up , LCD works for few second then dies , then works again , usb doesn't work at all , so practically the camera is completely unusable. They will not return me my money , they will probably want more for further repairments etc ...

The people we are talking about are from Canon service in Croatia , the only canon service here.

I have searched on the net to find some Canon support outside Croatia , maybe general for  Europe or something but i cant find nothing.

I tried to call Vienna but automatic secretary is on German and i didn't understand a word.

If someone knows any contact number of Canon support at any place in the world that i can speak with , or some e-mail address that could help me  i would be more than grateful if i get that.

We i just want my money back , nothing more.

Thanks people

Yes , i agreed but i specifically agreed only if my camera will be repaired in time we agreed.

Anyway yesterday i called them , i said I'm quiting , that i called another service and that the price there is way better for me, that they didn't repair it in the time we agreed on , we had a Little argue ....  and guess what ,they repaired the camera within few hours and said that
is ready for me to pick it up. They lower the price more than 50% . I guess if i wasn't acting the way I was i wouldn't see my camera for weeks even months , and had to pay the price they invented.

« on: October 08, 2006, 19:24 »
I would say that you are doing good , it would be about 1$ per image at month at this ratio.  But from my experience profit doesn't rise proportionally with  number of photos especially at SS where your newest stuff will have most downloads.

I remember when i started when i was counting the numbers i though  ( lets say now i were in your shoes ) so with 33 images you had almost 10$ in 10 days.

That would make almost 30 $ in a month.

So if you had 330 photos you would make 300 $ at month , or with 3300 photos you would make 3000 $.

I doesn't go that way , at least not for me , but you will figure it out soon.

No , i agreed even on 625$ last time i spoke with them on the phone , but it was a mistake .  I know i shouldn't agree on that but now i want to end this story. Yes i agreed on 625$ , so the could bother me if i want to quit now , but the deal was that they will rapair it in 3 weeks. tomorrow will be 5 weeks from then , so they didn't respect their part of the agreement.  First agreement we had this summer was 260 $ and that i have to wait only few days , or a week maybe but almost 3 months have passed from then. I just cant understain that. I haven't took a photo 3 months now , and if i knew that it will be this way i would never have call them at all.

I was just wondering if someone knows , or if someone could find out how much would it cost to replace 350D electronics ?

Is it really more than 3/4 of the new camera price ?

Thanks

« on: October 08, 2006, 16:04 »

Ok , the thing is i bought Canon 350D this summer and i had a "little" accident with salt water on the beach. The camera was  a week old. I sent it to Canon service next day , they have open it  12 days after they receive it , ( i was told that sometimes things could be saved from salt water corrosion if they were cleaned fast but ......

They contacted me 12 days after  and they told me that electronic is dead , that i need to change it completely and gave me the price of about 260 $ and i will have my camera few days after , i said OK.

Days were passing so i called them , they told me thet now the price for repairing my camera is about 450 $ and that ill have my camera for 3 weeks and said that i don't call them again that they will contact me , OK I told them ill go for that.

Than a month passed so I contacted them again. Than they told me that my camera burned new electronic and now they want 625$ for repairing my 350D.  OK i went for that again but i think i made a mistake.

They told me that after the camera is repaired they gave no warranty if something fails again , so apparently the can give me my camera and it fails next day and i payed almost 2 cameras in few month and i have nothing ?

Its almost 3 months now since they received my camera , no calls , again nothing .

What would you do in my place?  I'm thinking of quiting the neverending process ading a difference from 625 $ they want for repairing my camera and buying new 400D , at least i will have a warranty , and try to sell my broken 350D for parts , or maybe I could try to take my Camera to some other service outside my country cause that one is only one here.

Is this Canon support usual or is it just here ?

Thanks

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime rejections
« on: October 04, 2006, 12:22 »

I never complained about rejections but last days have been unusual for me at dreamstime. First i thought that a reviewer had a bad day , but bad days are becoming usual. I had about 80% acceptance till now , but they rejected about 45 of the last 50 i submitted , so my rejections are 90% at the moment. Am i getting that much worse ?  Funny part is all the photos are few months old and it only coincidence that i submitted them now and i submitted that ones that were accepted then , same quality , same processing but backthen i had 80% acceptance now i have 90% rejections ....
Well , i will stop submitting for a while and see if  things will get better

With only cheque as your mode of payment, many fotog are not interested in joining. Cheques are practically useless for those not in USA due to the high admin fee charges by banks. Even for myself, until paypal is avalable, I just have to assume that all the sales made are "real" as I am not sure if i will ever get money from it.

Hope LO can have a projected timeline for the addition of paypal payment.

Cheers

Cheques are actually far best if not only acceptable method for some of us so you cant claim that they are useless for all of us outside US. Paypal doesn't even work here ,and moneybookers gives about 1200$ limit in 3 months for my country, so its about 400$  month limit. If you earn more than that ... those useless cheques are more than helpful

Just wanted to say that , I have nothing against that they ad paypal as payment option :)

Cameras / Lenses / Re: DSLR question ...
« on: June 28, 2006, 20:00 »
Thank you people , i decided to buy a 350D 18/55 kit and extra EF 70-200mm f/4 L fort now  . The funny part is that you get a 350D +18/55+2Gb memory card  30$ cheaper than only 350D body in the same store,  i just cant understand those marketing tricks.

The bad part is that im few bucks short so i will have to wait shutterstock check for this month ,  and then a month to get the cash from the bank.  I culd buy only the kit now and then wait for EF 70-200mm f/4 L , but if i buy  all together i will pay 20% less. So ill have my new "weapon" in mid summer.

By the way , nice link ichiro17.

Thanks again people

Thank you people

I have been saving for better camera quite time , and first plain was 30D ( my buget is somewhere about that range now ) , but after some cunsulting i will probably go with 350D and spend the rest of the cash on better lenses. I plain to get 350D 18/55 kit , and EF 70-200mm f/4 L for start  and then start saving to replace 18/55 with something better , cause if i get 30D now it will take quite long to save for better lenses.

I was even recomended to get 50mm f/1.8 rather than 18/55 , cause is much better and the price is very reasonable.

Sigma , is not an option for me now , because there is only one distributer over here and the support and prices are bad and high , much more than in other countries , you wait for months when you order a product and  you pay about twice of the regular price. I don have a credit card yet so ordering  from web is unfortunately not an option now.

It would be more than helpfull if  someone has any suggestions on 18/55 alternatives , cause i heard nothing good about that lens.

Thanks again people

Cameras / Lenses / DSLR question ...
« on: June 27, 2006, 07:45 »

Hi

Im still on a compact camera , but i plain to buy a DSLR one in near future  ( 350 D  most probably) . I was just wondering , what does lack of live preview on dslr cameras mean. Is it a matter of time latency , or you see only settings parameters on your LCD and not the object that you are taking photo of , or you cant focus only by looking at LCD ...

The simple question would be : What do you see on your dslr lcd monitor when you are photographing ?

Sorry if the question is stupid , but I never had a dslr camera in my hands , and i culdnt find an answer on the net.

Thanks in advance.

I just joined this community and just wanted to say hi to all of you, greetings from Croatia.

I'm into stock for about 3 months now , and i contribute to several stock sites but mostly SS , IS , DT and Fotolia.

Most of my income is from SS , about  3/4 of it.

I would order the days something like this :

1 - Wednesday and Thursday , both about the same , best for me.

2 - Friday -  the only day that can sometimes earn me as much as Wednesday and Thursday.

3 - Tuesday

4 - Monday - often bad day for my sales

5 - sunday  - about 1/3 of regular days income

6 - Saturday - same as sunday.
