.28 is more than I've been getting from regular Istock sales lately. Maybe I should opt out from Istock and in on the PP?

Here is the unofficial song:

Polkabjrn & Kleine Heine - i like to ski

I think it describes the Norwegian winter sports culture quite well.

I like the features in DT and SS where you can see keywords and country of download. Mainly because it is fun, but also because it gives me ideas on how to improve my shots and keywording.

Yaymicro / Re: is something wrong...?
« on: February 22, 2011, 16:23 »
It looks like something is wrong with uploading, I got the same internal error. Also the approval process is slower than normal, and a few elements on the website are buggy. But I've got three sales this week, so if there is something wrong with the search/buying, that happened today.

The request forum on PD isn't too bad. Most of it is very specialized, but there are some good ideas there that can be used for microstock.

General Stock Discussion / Re: YayMicro review times

Usually files are reviewed within a few days, but I have also a batch that has been sitting for a week now.

Yay is no. 5 in earnings for me (after DT, SS, IS, and Veer).

Most of the results on DT looked very similar to the results that came up on iStock...except none of them cost $100+. I'd like to see the justification for the price of this Agency photo: http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-13873914-laptop.php

I guess I am of several minds here.  I find myself agreeing with everyone a little bit.

I don't object to some price stratification to separate out the high production value, creative stuff from the every day, low budget micro images.  That makes sense.

But Istock seems to have gone overboard the past year or so by creating so many different collections at such vastly differing price points.  The ability to search the site and filter the various price points hasn't kept up.  Add to that the deliberate front loading of the most expensive images in the default search.

Even though there are still a majority of low to moderately priced images on the site, the perception seems to be that most of the good content has skyrocketed in price.   The end result is lots of confused and angry buyers.

I know I've mentioned it before, but I really like Veer's search functionality. They have prices ranging from 1,5 Euro to 679 Euro, and will show everything in the default search. But there is a very visible and easy to use slide bare on the side, where you can narrow it to less than 399, less than 199, or less than 29.

A lot of different prices, everything thrown together in the same database, but easy to use to the buyer.

I have a little list of referrals on Dreamstime. Most of them do nothing, a few of them have uploaded some pictures, and some of them are buyers. I guess you don't object to the last type of signups?

Photo Critique / Re: Newby is looking for critiques on images
« on: February 11, 2011, 14:52 »
I love your photos! It is always possible to find issues with anything (like; is there too much sharpening on the haybale, and is the focus perfect on the pumpkins (?)). But honestly; upload and see. It might be an idea to include some of your excellent people shots in the applications for approval on IS and SS.

Come to think about it; SS never accepted my pictures from the Shetland Islands. Does that support your theory, or disprove it?

ScandinavianStockPhoto.com / Increase in sales
« on: February 09, 2011, 14:23 »
I've had more sales in January and February at SSP, than I had in all of 2010. Is it only me, or have they gotten hold of some good customers (runaways from Istock?).

114
Well I was earning extra income from doing paperwork for the buisness my boyfriend was trying to acquire but that fell through so now micro is my only income.  I'm also a stay at home mom but the pay sucks ;D
My kids paid me in kisses and hugs (and a lot of snotty noses) when I stayed at home last year. ;)

Unfortunately, it's my husbands turn to work from home now, so I'm back to teaching.

I think Yuri's program is a good way to remember obvious keywords, and getting the spelling correct. It also shows some search data.

Illustration - General / Good tutorials for very simple vectors?
« on: January 20, 2011, 12:29 »
Could you please recommend me some good basic tutorials for making very simple vectors? Like the letters A B C, or stick figures. I will never become an artist, but would like to learn a bit more about how vectors are created. I use photoshop, and have got access to Illustrator.

I know how to do a clipping path with the pen tool, but thats about it. I tried to trace a rock carving, but got stuck on what to do when you got several lines that couldn't be connected to each other.  :-[

The thing I like about DT is that I can trust that they will pay me my part of that money. A year or so ago, money popped into my account over and over for an entire day. They had done some calculation mistake, and corrected that as soon as they found out. I would never have suspected there were money missing.

This just reinforces by suspicion that their programing has been outsourced to India.
Time zone considerations and other factors are making it impossible to react to these failures in a timely
fashion.

ETA: sorry about the formatting, that's what happens when I post from my iPhone.

That was the first thing my husband said too. And it has nothing to do with insulting Indians, he is very clear on the issue that the average Indian programmer is more intelligent and better at their job than he is. It has everything to do with communication. The responisbility gets fragmented, nobody has any overview over what should be done, or what has been done by whom. Outsourcing, whether it is to India or the next door neighboor, requires very good managing.

I pay about $500 a month for health care through taxes (7-10% are tied directly to health care). Hubby earns less, so he pays less. Any and all health care for the kids is free.

Visit to dr/hospital - approx 20 Euro, but no more than 250 Euro a year, including medicins and transportation.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Agencies average RPI
« on: December 21, 2010, 14:35 »
Gaja is close to a meaningful #, but the relative time to upload to a site should also be counted if you want to be really anal.
Well, that is part of the reason my stats at Istock are lower than at Dreamstime and Shutterstock. Before I stopped uploading to Istock in september, I had a backlog of 30 or something pics that were uploded, but not keyworded.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Agencies average RPI
« on: December 21, 2010, 08:34 »
Re RPI: I think the rate per uploaded image is the only one that makes sence, since that tells you which site gives you most value for your work. If I work 1 hour, upload the same number of pictures to two different agencies, and they earn me the same sum in money; they are equally good. Even if one of the agencies accepts all my pictures, and the other one rejects half of them. If you calculate RPI based on accepted images, the stricter agencies get a head start.

Suggestion for formula:
(Gross income for agency A)/((total # pics uploaded before jan 2010 + total # pics uploaded before jan 2011)/2)

Using this formula, my stats for 2010 are:
SS: 0,72
IS: 0,52
DT: 0,71
BS: 0,07
123RF: 0,08
DP: 0,05
CanStockPhoto: 0,04
YAY: 0,08
SSP: 0,07
Total: 2,34
