Do you want rate per uploaded image, or rate per accepted image?

Tell him Yes.. if he hires the plane / Heli and pilot and lets you keep the copyright to all the shots take for whatever use you want. See what he thinks of that.

Sounds like a good plan. :)

I haven't really read Happy Announcements posts in the Istock forum before, I thought you were kidding about the wooyays and stuff. But there are actually people there crying Hallelujah for something several other microstock sites have offered for years. They are being sarcastic, right?

Have a look at mturk.com and cloudcrowd. You need a very good workflow, otherwise it will take to long to access the jobs, and this will be a big time thief. Cloudcrowd has a good workflow, where accessing and completing tasks require few clicks. Mturk is more convoluted, and often the process of accessing a task takes more time than finishing it.
Googles image labeler is quick and fun to use.

One big time saver for the keyworder would be if you could add keywords to a lot of pics at once. E.g. see 20-30 thumbs at once and label them easily with "person, people, female" etc. Entering keywords for single images will take too much time. That is your big advantage if you get a lot of people to use this feature: you will have access to a lot of pictures and the work flow can be very effective.

I'm curious to know how much the average American citizen pays in taxes? Just an approximation. My guess would be around 20% but I honestly have no clue.
Here in Denmark most of us pays just about 45% but it goes up to 60%+, depending on how much money you earn. Several deductions make it difficult to calculate the effective rate though. Way too much nevertheless.

I think the average American joe in the working class pays about 28-30%. Lower income people pay around 15%. I'm not certain what upper class folks pay...never had the luxury of finding out!

According to Eurostat the average in Denmark is 48 %. Norwegians pay about 42% on average, and I have absolutely no problem with that. Health care is free, schools are free (including universities), we have more than one year maternety/paternety leave with full pay, and noone starves. Sure there are loads of issues with all kinds of things, and it is hard getting really filthy rich, but it is also difficult to get really poor. To me, that's a good trade off.

The right wing people in my home town recently refused to increase the local taxes with 0,001% ($30 per person). Because of that, the kindergartens will have to fire 2 persons next year. I would much rather pay 30 bucks more, to make sure the kindergartens keep up the good quality.

The keyworder will se only a small preview? Or you will add a good watermark?

133
Do you really pay less than 10% tax?

« on: December 03, 2010, 04:48 »
I certainly do not understand this "conflict". I thought microstock started with designers sharing pictures, and always assume that most buyers also are sellers.
And he only wanted a good search engine. How can anybody have conflicting interests in that topic? A good search engine benefits both sellers and buyers.

BTW: in case someone wants to reveal this later on to discredit my reply: I have downloaded 6 files from DT, nothing from IS. Also: My house is white, and my grandmother is Faroese. That should cover all possible conflicts of interests?

Nettiquette 101: Do not talk shite about another person, and certainly do not do it in a thread where he/she is not participating. Lobo might do a *** job, but he is a human being like any other. There is no need to get personal, and doing so only reflect badly on you.

Bigstock.com / Re: Scientific/Latin names in keywords
« on: December 03, 2010, 03:32 »
Hello all,

I spoke to our content team managers and we do support (and encourage) the use of scientific names in metadata for images of animals and plants. If you check the site, you should find a large number of images with this information intact. This appears to have been a misunderstanding, for which we apologize.

The content team should be reaching out to Eco to address the specific images that were denied.

As always, if you find an issue like this that seems abnormal, please don't hesitate to contact Support.  They'll pursue the issue to determine if there was an error or if the denial in question accurately reflects Bigstock's policies and standards.

Thank you!

Best,

Scott

The layout of that page is incredible. I'm surfing on a Acer Aspire (one of those mini laptops), and I only see 5 millimeters of each picture. It takes me 10 clicks on the scrolling thingy to see all of the picture. Unfortunately my brain isn't able to put all the pieces together from memory...

I feel your pain. I have one of those.  I don't use it for much.

LOL!  Me too.  Very frustrating trying to type and scroll on it.  Although I do kinda like mine because it's cute and tiny :)

My daughter takes it to classes in her purse to take notes on.  I guess all her texting experience has made her much more adept than me at using a small keyboard.

That's why I like it. Taking notes...perfect use. Checking email...perfect use. Surfing...not so much.

It is perfect for travelling. Most pages work ok. Some require a bit of scrolling, but only the stockys page was impossible to dechiffre.

I've seen pictures from Scanstock in several Norwegian (old) woman's magazines. You know; the type with knitting recipes and pictures of grandchildren. But the last time I glanced through one, most of the pics came from colourbox.

but I think everyone need to lay of the conspiracy theories
Huh? Nobody mentioned any conspiration theories here. Not with DT. If it was IS, well... I don't know.  :P
And @Artemis: of course it's a great gesture.

From my quote from pancaketom, and similar replies from several others earlier in the thread: "well, I bet if the number turned out to be some boring texture background or something they would pick another one, so why not pick one from a busy active contributor too?"

doesn't look like I am going to get any DL at DT today, which is a shame. I did have some images "under review" when they hit the number, but obviously not at the perfect time. curiously enough when I went and looked at the page showing the winner, it said photographers needed to upload pictures and contribute to the forums and blogs to win, I thought it was all about hitting the magic number - well, I bet if the number turned out to be some boring texture background or something they would pick another one, so why not pick one from a busy active contributor too?

In any case, this shows more goodwill for contributors than others have shown lately, although I am still a little bitter about the % age drop.

I suppose there are a few hours left, so hopefully I will get at least one DL (preferably an EL)

The winner was a decent picture, and I am very happy for the photographer, but I think everyone need to lay of the conspiracy theories. They inspected 20 000 pictures in the last days, I'm sure they could have picked something more symbolic or more "perfect" for the winning pic.

I had two sales yesterday, total earnings 10 dollars. Nice.

The review times are usually about a week, so if the expected time is on monday, it is to late to upload now.

I'm always a bit uncertain about what to do when I keyword "isolations" with a shadow. Is it "isolated", or "over white"?

I have deleted all my MR-released pics today. Will be interesting to see when they disappear from the site. I have reached the payout limit, so I'll remove the rest on January 1.

Nothing to be excited about they will choose a winner and a time so they can sell a story with an image chosen. I would bet it will happen on weekend when everything is slow anyway.

If you look at the "winners" of the earlier milestones (9 mill, 8 mill etc), they look pretty random to me. My sales have been up lately, and I love the gesture, even though it is quite probable that I won't make anything. I especially like the 110% to the exclusives. That is a good way to show appreciation.
