Yaymicro / Re: What kind of images sell on Yay?
« on: November 04, 2010, 13:43 »
I have less than 300 pics on Yay for less than a year, and 10 sales. That is better than most of the other low earners for me. I guess they have some Norwegian buyers for my Norwegian pictures. :)

The prices for Adobe products are crazy. I think they would make a lot more money if it was more affordable, as more "thieves" would purchase it instead of download it.

I got a few ratings on the first pictures I put into IS, with a request from the rater to do the same to her pics. If other newbies recieve the same "training", that could be a reason that this continues.

Yaymicro / Re: link to yaymicro images with referral?
« on: October 20, 2010, 10:23 »
In DT this type of link is available for all images in the tool-menu (click on any picture, choose "tools"), and you can even choose between different sizes of images. I find that very user friendly, and often use those pics if I want to show my work to someone. That has given me many times as many referrals at DT compared to the other agencies. An idea to implement? Changing codes is a bit high tech for me. ;)

Dreamstime.com / Re: how to terminate the exclusivity with DT?
« on: October 19, 2010, 15:51 »
Ok no blood but you still have to wait.

Yes, for 30 days. Something I knew about and agreed to when I applied for the exclusivity status. I read my contracts before I sign them. And if I don't agree with the terms, I'll turn down the deal. So I don't see the need to complain when the other side sticks to the contract too.
But, as I said, I seem to remember that it was less than 30 days in reality.

You can start uploading to other sites within the period, as long as the pictures aren't for sale before the time is up. Just let them stay in the queue, don't finish the keywording etc. before the waiting period is over. It is a good idea to do that for sites with strict upload limits, and also they will get reviewed much faster if it is a while since they were uploaded. But don't do that with 123RF and Scanstock, those sites review the files directly from your upload. SS, IS, BigStock, DP, CanStockPhoto, YAY, and Veer let you leave files in the queue until you are ready to submit. Those are the ones I use, I don't know about the other. (My referral links are here: http://gajasworld.blogspot.com/2010/08/oppsummering-juli.html, if you want to use them, or you could support leaf and this site and use the ones on the right side here).

If you need to get approved to other sites, you can do the applications within the waiting periode. But again, only as long as you don't put any files up for sale.

I think I remember you have to send them a notarized letter signed in blood?  Can't remember if your first born was part of the deal too.  Maybe I'm wrong I stopped with them a while ago.

Not often I use this, but  ::) Did you ever try removing exclusivity? No? Why do you invent problems then? You had a quarrel with DT about something else entirely, if I remember correctly. Why drag it into this setting where it is totally irrelevant  ???

I had absolutely no problems removing my exclusivity. In less than 30 days after a very friendly email conversation with one of the admins, all my files were marked as "non-exclusive". I got to keep all of the bonuses, even for files uploaded in those 30 days. Absolutely no problems at all, very easy-going, professional and friendly people to deal with.

Since that is not possible while remaining exclusive to Dreamstime, I regret to inform you that I wish to cancel my exclusivity status. I thought you only had to write the names if it was for editorial use?

I don't understand the anger some of you display in so many posts. Any agency is at complete liberty to accept of reject any photo or photographer. When they can choose from the creme of the crop, why not take in the best ones first? That way it will be easier to get buyers attracted, something that will be benefit all contributors in the long run.

Que order? Is this a post office line? Do you expect your job applications to be reviewed in the order they were recieved too? Of course not! The best applicants will get interviewed first, not the ones who mailed their letters first.

I'm not in, and I don't expect to be accepted for a long time yet.

« on: October 08, 2010, 15:25 »
Yes, they should be all on Fotosearch.

New uploads at Canstock take about a week before showing up on Fotosearch.

If you can't find your images on Fotosearch, contact customer support at Canstock. They will sort it out.

Some of mine that got approved yesterday are available on Fotosearch now.

Thank you very much!

123RF didn't show up, but that could be just that cache problem you described earlier.

General Stock Discussion / Re: model releasing the deceased
« on: October 04, 2010, 15:03 »
If you took the photo of grandpa you would need the signature of the heirs all of them with signing rights to use the image.

it is more like great great grandpa, so 2-300 signatures; that's just too much work. I think Dondings suggestion about editorial sounds good.

BTW: Who signs the PR? Me? I have no proof of ownership, it is a family heirloom that happened to fall my way. Wills are not common here, we usually split things evenly between all the heirs. No lawyers get involved.

I have also wondered about this question. I have a lot of 100+ years old pictures of my relatives. As far as I can tell, the photographers rights expire 70 years after his death in my country. But if I have to get written permission from all the living relatives, I can just put the pictures back in the drawer. My ancestors were prolific, I'm sure I have several hundred cousins who are direct ascendents from the people in the pics. (Not counting the ones outside marriages).

Pixmac / Re: Big ambition from Pixmac [Press Release]
« on: October 04, 2010, 06:05 »
My pictures are not on Pixmac, even though I'm not opted out in DT. Would you recommend uploading directly, or ask them to fix the bug from DT? Is there any hope to reach payout with a tiny port like mine?

I've used glasses since I was 8, because I have myopia. But as I grow older, the myopia has been reducing. I started at -3.5, now I'm down to -1.5. If this trend continues, I can become a fighter pilot in 10 years.

Pregnancies and child births have been periodes where my eyesight has taken big leaps in the right directions; maybe you should try that cure too? ;)

The only other thing this site doesn't have that IS does is a Request Forum - a place buyers can come and ask for images they need. That's a service both for buyers and contributors (a couple of times I've shot things for people and found it filled a useful niche in my portfolio.

Other than caspixel, do we have enough buyers here to get this sort of thing going?

I like this idea! And since a few of our members are so strict on "pimping", those threads won't be spammed.

Thank you for the update, appreciate your presence.

CfD-money are in from Veer, so I'm a happy snapper. Otherwise DT is top on my list, because of a few very expensive sales (Tiff of high level). I had sales at all 10 micro agencies I contribute to; including 5 sales at Yay, and 2 at SSP.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Buyers Bailing on Istock
« on: September 30, 2010, 00:49 »
I like the way Veer has handled the issue of mixed prices. The prices are clearly visible in the result display, and you can very easily limit the output to your budget with a slider on the side.

Well, I guess this is the way to go if you want to trick istock at their own game. The larger the port, the more you will make.

Veer / Re: Veer? what are they doing??
« on: September 25, 2010, 07:02 »
My CfD pictures have finally been reviewed. 70% acceptance, and they chose different pictures from the other agencies. It looks like they look more at compostion than at the technical details. It will be interesting to see what sells, and how long it will take to reach payout. The views are certainly up.

Horrible colors, and horribly messy.

BTW: I actually had a couple of sales at SSP this month. That is not often.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Volume of Submissions Now Reducing?
« on: September 24, 2010, 17:10 »
What is worse, the photographer doing this - which were great pieces of imagery, in fact - or the parents who let their children take part in it.

But then, some children are great actors. Have you ever seen that video of a baby crying when he sees his mother, then shutting up when she is out of sight?

That is quite common. My youngest always checks my reaction before she starts screaming for her sisters blood in revenge for whatever injustice she has suffered. If I don't react, she plays along nicely.

I'm happy for you that you are able to find the positive side to this, and take part of it as constructive critisism. Your art IS great, and I'm sure the people on those sites would much rather buy it from the real artist!
