New Sites - General / Re: How to change RM to RF on Zoonar
« on: October 03, 2010, 23:02 »
I uploaded mostly micro images to Zoonar, but once they were approved they were pre-set for RM. I didn't make this choice - it was never an option. I've gone through and edited them to RF but now they read as RM/RF. How do I take them out of RM?

Hi Nancy,

I know, it's a little bit confusing. If you click on the photo, you can see the choosen license type for this pic.

General Macrostock / Re: looking for a film scanner
« on: October 01, 2010, 07:28 »
i had considered to get it done by some shops, but i hardly find any shop that do it professionally, and i think it may be more controllable to scan it myself...

i heard good results minolta dual scan series, but the series seems quite outdated that i think nikon coolscan may have better edges over the technology?

Nikon is also outdated and if you get one, the price is triple high as for the new one as they sold them.

hi all,

I am looking for a good quality film scanner, prefer less than US$1000..

any recommendation? I would like to digitize some old negatives and slides for some macro agency.

Possible to share your experience of what scanner you are using? or anyone is selling it?

is nikon coolscan is good enough?

thanks!

Alamy is best place for editorial RM.

Yes, alamy is the best place for it

Same here in Germany

Thought it might be interesting to see how many images people here are deactivating on istock in protest at the commission cuts.  Just add to the number every time you deactivate images.  Here's my first lot.

121

There is an easy way to find it out. Go to istockcharts.multimedia.de sort by New Files 30Days and then switch to page 574. That's all ;)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Larger File Sizes
« on: September 18, 2010, 05:16 »
I'm at 24mp too. Beyond the larger sizes. the crop space is incredible and images that are questionable for quality can get downsized to 4000-4500 pixels on the long side and go throough happily. hides a lot of sins :)

Me too

120 MP on an APS-H-sensor :D Which kind of PC do you need and which memory card. You need a backpack with a server in it.
No thanks, i like my Nikon D3X and it's enough for me, my pc and my mac ;)

Alamy.com / Re: alamy for beginners
« on: August 17, 2010, 23:07 »

Is there RF Editorial at Alamy? I really don't know, as I am basically uploading RM there.

No, if you would sell your images as Editorial, you must set it as RM (with restrictions).
You can sell pics without a MR and/or PR also as RM and not as Editorial.

Here is a response from alamy member services:

Actually this is your take!
If you think that these restrictions were placed because there are recognizable people and properties with no relevant release or for any other valid reason, then these restrictions are free to remain as such. The restrictions will help the contributors from not getting into potential legal issues.
The disclaimer that comes with each image pop up, places the equal responsibility on the buyer too. It is always not necessary that all images with no releases should have restrictions set to it. But these should be annotated correctly as to the number of people and identifiable property and the relevant releases. This will help in giving the correct licence type to the images. If the image is of licence type 'L' this will help in knowing the end usage.
So in general... if you feel that the images contain people/subject matter that require more sensitivity... (funeral, wedding, people in a state of undress or anything else that if used could cause a problem for the model if printed)... then it might be advisable to set Editorial Only restrictions as extra security. Alamy will not by ourselves set any usage restriction to any images.
Otherwise you do not "HAVE" to set restrictions, as long as you have accurately annotated (saying they do not have MR or PR) and images are "L". The onus is on the end user to decide if they need a release for their use.
Hope this explanation helps.

have 1 more questions,

can we submit an image as RM for editorial without model release, but change it after to RM with model release after we got the model release successfully?

It's my understanding that you cannot change the type of image license once it's Set at Alamy.

It's correct, that you can't change the license type once you've set it, but if you sell your RM as editorial, you also have to set restrictions. If you have the MR and/or the PR you can delete these restrictrions and your image is then a normal RM.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Dollar bin at IS
« on: August 15, 2010, 10:29 »
Thanks for that.  Yes, there are files I didn't know had been added.  Not a big deal to me though.  Most of the stuff in there hasn't sold well anywhere.  But I still would like to be notified...  ???

Yes, that's how I found mine. I was browsing around and stumbled across that and thought I would take a look. I was really taken aback that they had added so many of mine without notifying me. I'm ok with taking them down, they were very early Cathy and not too good. But I never wanted them to go to the dollar bin and it disturbs me that they are now just dumping them in without even asking.

I've cancelled my application, because I don't waste my time

If setting as RM, you don't need to set it editorial only, just say a release is required and that you don't have it.

Hi madelaide,
for me, that's incorrect. http://www.alamy.com/contributor/help/image-licences.asp.
Also, when you're setting RM alamy says:
"Releases:   You must have model and property releases for relevant subject matter in an image. If you dont have them you can set restrictions to licence the image for Editorial use only."

42
If you have no Model and Property Releases, you have to set the pics as RM and Editiorial use only.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is it Just Me?
« on: June 22, 2010, 02:55 »
For the last few months, I've been averaging sales of around $120.00 on iStock each month.  So far, this month, I've only had sales of $38.00.

Is it just me, or are there others who are experiencing a downturn in sales?

+1 :'(

Hi gostwyck,

never heard before. That really su..s. I seem to remember, that you can opt-out the pay-as-you go option

I agree with all of you, but i've also curious downloads. Some images had no downloads over month and then they were downloaded as extended licenses.

I got this message in my stockfresh inbox:

Dear Dreamframer,

Thank you very much for your interest in selling your work at Stockfresh!

We are very excited that so many of you have faith in our new project. At the moment there are already over 300 pending contributor applications, which is absolutely amazing.

We would like to ask for your patience as we sort through all the applications. It might take a while because we would like to grow our customer and contributor base side by side, and we might not be able to let everyone in immediately.

At the moment we are working on our first marketing campaigns. If all goes well, we can start opening the gates soon. If not, well, we don't even want to think about that! ;)

Once again we would like to thank you for your interest and please don't worry about the delay. We will take care of the application when things start happening!

Best regards,
The Stockfresh Team
