Crestock.com / Re: Review times at Crestock slowing down?

My list of pending images is getting longer there too.  I have some that have been pending for almost three weeks now.  They used to be much faster than this.

Hi again,

When I checked this morning, my images had been approved. :)  I have had very slow sales on SS Stockxpert [just noticed this mistake] too the past few weeks.  From the start of September until about halfway September, my small portfolio produced a sale about every other day.  From then on, no sales, except one, about three days ago.  It's almost as if something changed in their algorithm?

StockXpert.com / StockXpert Longer Review Times?
« on: October 07, 2008, 15:01 »
Hi everyone,

Am I the only person who is experiencing longer review times on StockXpert?  The past couple of weeks, I have gotton used to StockXpert reviewing files within a day, sometimes even within an hour or so.  I uploaded some files Saterday night (Oct. 4th) and they have not yet been reviewed (Oct 7th, about 72 hours after uploading).  Have others seen this too?

Of course this is not a complaint, because most microstock agencies take much longer than this.  It's just that I have gotten so used to the extremely fast review times that this makes me wonder if something went wrong with my files.  I do see them and they have a status of "pending", so it seems to be okay?

Dreamstime.com / Re: Do RAW files sell?
« on: October 06, 2008, 16:10 »
Hi,

I'm a still pretty new to this too, but I don't think I would ever want to sell my RAW files.  If someone decides to download your photo, and then uploads it somewhere else, trying to pass it off as their own, you're going to have difficult time proving you took the original image.  If you are the only person who has the RAW file, you might at least have something to prove you are the person who took the photo.  At least that is the way I look at it, and I know there are people who have been having problems with others stealing their work.

Off Topic / JoeyL Tutorials
« on: October 06, 2008, 02:19 »
Hey everyone,

Has anyone here bought the JoeyL tutorials available at http://tutorial.joeyl.com/ ?

I really like his work and the tutorials appear to cover some of the things I would love to be able to do with some of my photos.  They are probably less suitable for stock, which is why I decided to post this in the Off Topic forum.  Anyway, since the tutorials are quite expensive, I was hoping someone could tell me if they felt they are really worth the money?

Oops, my bad, I meant IStock but accidentally typed Shutterstock.  Must have been because I was uploading there when I wrote that message. :) :D

I'd like to join too.  My sales at Shutterstock have not been very impressive, though.  Lots of ups and downs, where the ups would be periods with maybe 3 sales in 4 days or so.  :D  I'm still building my portfolio there, so I hope sales will increase over time.  My screen name is ingesche.

This is only my fourth full month in microstock and my portfolios are still pretty small.  I have sold a few files on 123RF and Featurepics, but no sales this month.  I only started uploading to Cutcaster about a week ago, so I am not surprised that I have not had any sales there yet.  I earned about $2.00 less on Shutterstock than last month, but I uploaded fewer files.

Overall, September was BME for me.

The file that was rejected was an illustration...  ???  I'm lost!  :o

Hi,

I've had one for $ 1.88 (a vector).  I have about 80 images in my port at the moment.

This is a great feature, which I hadn't discovered yet.  I just added 6 of my Bird and Nature photos.  I don't see them in the lightboxes yet, but I just read it will take some time.  I like the banners!

Not sure what happened, I just sent a reply to this message but it seems to have disappeared...

Anyway, what I said was:  It may just be my impression, but I thought review times were shorter a few months ago.  Maybe they are being flooded with holiday related images.  I know I have been uploading a few, maybe others have been doing the same.

Cutcaster / Re: Cutcaster prices and which images
« on: September 20, 2008, 14:39 »
I *only* uploaded about 70 photos and illustrations in the past few days and even I spent several hours categorizing them, etc.  I can only imagine how much work 400 images will be!

I had the thumbnail problem with about three of my images.  I wasn't sure if those images had been uploaded correctly, so I deleted them and tried again.  No problems the second attempt.  Since I deleted them and tried again, I am still not sure if they would have been processed correctly anyway, or if the images would have been missing / corrupted.

Since you have 400 images, I sure hope you don't have to resubmit them...  I think I have seen someone from CutCaster respond to messages on this board, so maybe they can tell us what is going on with those images, and maybe fix the problem?

I have been having a lot of trouble reaching the Stockxpert site today.  The last couple of hours, I have not been able to reach it at all.  I was going to start a new topic when I noticed this one, which felt kind of appropriate.  ::)

Stockxpert has finally taken off for me this month (nothing spectacular yet, but I have been having sales there about every other day for the last two weeks).  I hope it will be back up soon.  If we can't reach the site, neither can our customers...

Cutcaster / Cutcaster prices and which images
« on: September 17, 2008, 05:46 »
Hi everyone,

I decided to join Cutcaster today, but I'm not sure which files to upload and what prices to set...  Are you guys uploading the same photos you are uploading to other agencies, or are you uploading differen photos?  The reason I'm asking is that CutCaster's pricing model, where you set your own prices, is different.  If I were to upload the same photos I submitted to agencies like IStockPhoto, Shutterstock, Dreamstime, Stocxpert, etc. what would be a fair price?

I hope you can give me some advice on this...  This is all still pretty new to me.  Thanks in advance.

I just left a comment for the world map image.  I would like to present another one for you to see:

Maybe some people are not too thrilled to see another flower photo, but what can I say: I'm Dutch!  So yes, I do have several Dutch tulips and windmills in my portfolio.  ;D

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Illustrations as JPGs on IStock
« on: August 26, 2008, 11:04 »
Hi again,

Thanks for the quick replies.  Sounds like trying to upload JPEG versions of my illustrations will probably not be worth the effort then.  I thought that might be the case, but thought you guys might have experience with it.  Too bad, but that's just the way it is then.

I will keep trying to get in as an illustrator, but it will probably require quite a change of style.  I like to combine simple shapes into something that I feel looks good.  They appear to be looking for people who create mostly sketches / drawings at the moment.

Oh well, at least they are selling well on SS. :)  AND they all get accepted on DT and StockXpert, where I hope they will start generating sales soon.

Thanks again for shedding some light on this.

Hi,

Some FTP sites allow only one smultaneous connection from a client.  As far as I can recall, FileZilla tries to establish at least two simultaneous connections so it can upload at least two files simultaneously.  Some FTP sites just don't support this.  I haven't been using FTP with BigStock, but I have seen it with at least one of the other sites.  This is causing one of your problems: the one where you see only the first file is uploading.  The only solution I have found, is to upload only one file at a time and not try to send a whole batch in one go.  It can be tedious though.

I am not sure what is causing the other problem, the one with a file being uploaded more than once.  I have seen it happen once or twice with sites that automatically move your files from the FTP folder to your images folder on the site, as opposed to the sites that tell you to click a button when you are finished uploading.  It looks like there is a connection, but I haven't figured out yet exactly what it is.

iStockPhoto.com / Illustrations as JPGs on IStock
« on: August 26, 2008, 04:27 »
Hi everyone,

I'm still pretty new to this whole microstock thing and am in the process of building my portfolio, which includes both photos and illustrations.  I have a question regarding illustrations on IStock.  It looks like they are not looking for more illustrators with my kind of style.  My first two attempts of getting in as an illustrator were rejected.  And when I look at the list of the kind of illustrations they ARE looking for, it's just not really my kind of thing.  On the other hand, the kind of illustrations I DO create, seem to sell fairly well on IStock and other sites.

Does anyone know if IStock might accept JPEG versions of my illustrations, or would it just be a waste of time trying to upload them?  I am planning on seeing if I can do the kinds of illustrations they are looking for as well, but I am not yet convinced that that will ever really work for me.  If I could upload JPEG versions of my illustrations that are selling well on other sites, maybe I can at least make a little money with those on IStock as well.

I hope someone can shed a little more light on this.  Either I looked in the wrong places, or there is not much information to be found about this on the IStock site itself.  Thanks in advance for any help / advice you might have to offer.

Regards,
Inge
