Adobe Stock / Re: FT slow in November for anyone else?
« on: December 04, 2006, 00:30 »
My FT for the month of Nov is 10% down from last month, it's relatively stable.
But my IS and Stockxpert were down 50% from previous month, so that is a big difference.

Overall I am 21% less than Oct, so it was not a good month.

But with the first 3 days in Dec, it seems Dec could be worse, my SS stock and IS is so quiet, I may for the first time not qualify for a pay out with SS since I started. (100), of course still lots of time left for the month.

New Sites - General / Re: $ ranking for the bottom 5
« on: November 23, 2006, 13:47 »
For me the top ones are:

SS     36% of all earnings
DT    31% of all earnings
IS     14%
FT    11%
StockXpert    5%
BigStock    2%

So the bottom two did not really make any money, even though I only started 4 months ago, but with average over 300 images per site, other than IS (143 images), I think the number pretty much tells the story,

Sounds like a mixed bag, are the people who have decent result all have created galleries?

my last sale was Nov. 9th for 269 pictures on line, which never happened before, even when I initial joined, I have more sales than the last 2 weeks, my same batch of pictures sold over $350 on DT, and $130 on FT, but only $29 on BigStock, that's really odd.

Anyway I will stop uploading there until I see some changes. One thing which has deluted the portfolio is that they are now accepting 100% for the last two months, which is quite different than the initial standard.

So maybe you need to creat lots of galleries in order to have some sales, is that the case?

Ever since they changed the commission rate, I got a couple of $1 sales, but then it all stopped, I havn't had a single sale for 10 days with 250 pictures online, last month I  had 27 sales, almost 1/day.

So I am sitting at $29, waiting for my first ever payout with them, but no actions, this is the worst site I submitted to, I am not going to waste my time with them any more.

Anybody had a similar experience, or just me?

58
I don't quite get it, what does the word means? because some of my files under disambigu.. says manual, some says auto, should I go in and change all to manual, I am lost ???

59
I have raised everything to $50, but did not get a single sale from that, in the meantime I got about 7 from SS and 1 from IS.

Well that's impressive, 10K/month, I will never even come close to that.
But I do have my first mile stone after 3 months of hardwork,( or the first two month of hardword ), 1924 images on 6 sites, I hit my first $1000 mark today! ;D :D ;D

StockXpert has been really slow for me this month, or the last two weeks, I only got 4 dl during the time for 262 images, I used to get 1/day, anybody else had a similar experience?

62
Since I only started in late July, so my number did not make lots of sense, but here is mine:

This image made me $28.75 at SS ( 1 ESL ), $1 at DT, $0.70 at FT, rejected by StockXpert, $1.6 at IS, rejected by BigStock, so total about $32.05 in couple of month.

My most downloaded image is from SS, 80 downloads in 2 1/2 month for $20.00, but no ESL.

I joined over 1 year ago, have hundreds of views for my 17 pictures, not a single sale, decide to leave it alone, not even worth bothering with.

Congratulations, I only got half way towards my first in IS ( even though this month has been really good for me ), IS is now passed FT, a distant third for me behind SS and DT.

Well I do think the new search order is having an impact on my portfolio, of course out of the 630 images, one hundred just added 1 day ago, another 100 added a week ago, maybe not enough time passed to judge the result since you no longer get the new upload rush as I had experienced in August.

SS sales really slows down the last two month,  ( this is my third month ) 1st month is the best, I have the record sales of 50 DL one day with less than 250 images, now this month I have over 630 images, but I have been average 12-15 per day, not even a 20 dl day.

Anyone else experience slow down at SS?

Even though I am getting 1/3 through when compared with DT and FT, but since this month, the sales finally start to pick up, average daily sales for the first time exceed FT in Oct., of course still trailing overall, DT is way ahead of everyone else.

So with this month's sales increase, I will deal with the pain, and continue to upload.

After my initial 1 out 5 approval, now StockXpert is the easist to get approval, I am getting 90% more approval on them since then, it's lot easier to get approval than any other sites ( other than FT), now I have 241 on line for almost two month, but only 51 download, so not really very exciting, but way better than BigStock.

Off Topic / Re: Grey Market Camera
« on: October 06, 2006, 22:41 »
I had a problem before with a seller, and I was able to dispute through paypal and got it resolved.
I will go take a real test tomorrow with the camera, if the dead pixels resurfaced, I will send it back through UPS, and get Paypal to get the money back for me.
thanks for all your suggestions.

« on: October 06, 2006, 17:46 »
I bought it on Ebay, so there is no store front, they agree to exchange, but I wasn't sure the new one would be any better regarding hot pixsel, I really feel like I should have the USA model in order to be comfortable.
By the way they are offering 119.00 extended warranty I could buy instead, which will drive the price higher than local retailer by $70.00, i have until Sunday to decide whether or not take the offer.

Of course the best option is get out of this deal, and buy one locally from a reputable retailer, can I just returned the camera to them and have paypal helping me getting the money back?

I contacted the seller, his return emails says he is out of town until 10/16, so maybe I just send it back first.

« on: October 06, 2006, 12:58 »
I just bought a new Nikon D80 this week, when I received, I found out it's a grey market model, with no warranty, and during test shots, I found out 1 hot red pixel in two of 20 pictures under normal shooting conditions.

So I am not sure what is the right solution on this:

1. Do I return the camera and hoping for a replacement camera with no problem?
2. or do I return the camera and hoping for a refund ( if it's possible )
3. or just return the camera and have papal get the money back for me?
4. or just keep the camera and clone out any hot pixel if I find out any since IS will find out for me for sure.

thanks for your input.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: And again all rejected by istock
« on: October 05, 2006, 12:36 »
Well I just got my batch of 20 pictures rejected by Istock, all pictures with model release, it's depressing.

the same batch of pictures got accepted  100% at FT, 19 out 20 at DT, 100% at BigStock, 19 out of 20 at StockXpert, 19 out 20 at SS. ( funny thing is that 3 out of the same series I submitted last week got approved at IS, all got 5 out 5 ratings, which they deserve )

Reasons for rejection: over use of  noise reduction degrade image quality or artifacts when viewed in full size, due to in camera settings.

first I apply a small  portion of noise reduction on each image, they are very clean to start with, since shot out doors over cast days, no shadows to worry about, secondly, all are shot in Raw, processed and converted to Tiff, and finally output to Jpeg 12, I cannot see any artifacts when viewed at 100%, I don't know what are they talking about???

Some images are resubmit due to a dead pix they found, sure out of 6m pixels, one dead pixel will get rejected, but once I fix the pixel, now there is more reasons...

Anyway, I have been working hard for two month trying to get pictures on IS, so with 20 per week, I only got 95 on line, while in less than half the time, I got 504 approved at SS ( lots of editorial ), over 300 at FT, 270 at DT, and 221 at BigStock, 200 at StockXpert...

it's really not very productive to submit to IS, it get you very frustrated, and earnings only distant 4th behind SS, DT, FT...

Or do they really intend to drive photographers away?

Anyway just want to vent my frustration, since I can not do that at IS :'(

I have been doing microstock for two months, got 3 extended sale all from SS, nothing from any other site I joined, I got $20 each, I would leave the option open on all sites, because each site attract different customers, so by eliminating all the lower paying ones, you are limiting your own exposure.
By the way, all my pictures at FT price at $50 each, so I will get 17.5 if ever I get a sale from them.

Thanks for the feedback.
Yesterday I played with Capture NX and Lightroom, both are not as intuitive as I like to have, but it seems NX has more raw adjustment than lightroom, maybe a little easier, I will run some comparison to find out which one will work out for me in terms of workflow.
