I think it has more to do with a non-compete and Getty. The rules page states no news, sports or celebrities because Getty does it better.

I send most things to Alamy. If they don't take it then I'll send it to DT. My editorial sales on both sites are about even.

BME was Aug 09. Nov came in 4th, tied with Feb 09 and Jul 09.

They are 3.5% of my downloads and just under 4% of my income. This puts them in my top 4 with SS, IS and DT in that order.

The text states
Quote
We will reject all unreleased portraits of unaccompanied children.

It appears that only images of children on their own without an adult or who are not in part of a group need an MR.

Editorial by definition doesn't need a release. Editorial is "newsworthy" images. IS is the only site that requires an MR for editorial images be released. Any MR that IS accepts now should work for the editorial images.

It's RF editorial so the same release you always use should cover it.

@Lisa  Captions contain the pertinent information about the image. Ask yourself, "What point does the image have?" and then write the answer. It usually also contains information about the date and the location depicted.

IS is requiring a date, country and description. If your image is product related (ie cell phone on white) then you need to list the exact product name and manufacturer.

There is an accepted format for captions but I don't know if IS will have us do the formatting or just have us put in the information like on other sites.

No they really are that happy over this. At least until IS decides to limit it to exclusives only or announce that it will be supplemented with images already owned by Getty. Interesting that they don't want any celebrity or sports images. That's ok, other sites are happy to have my shots of Ice-T, Pamela Anderson, Andre Tippin, Doug Flutie and Duff Goldman (to name a few).

Can someone link me to the "other conversation"? I must have missed that one.

They moved all the photographer info to the bottom of the page in the footer. It confused me for a while as well.

It's possible that they didn't actually delete the account but rather made it inactive. You should contact them directly and ask about it.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Vetta Sale at iStock
« on: December 12, 2010, 10:44 »
Walmart can sell photos for $12.95 because they overbook and run 1 - 3 hours behind.  Part of me thinks this is goes with working with kids, my cynical side thinks it is intentional so you fill up a shopping cart while you are waiting.

They actually run behind because the camera room is booked in 10 minute increments. I used to work for a big box studio. You have 2 minutes to figure out what the client wants, set up the background and get the props. 10 minutes to get the kid to smile/sit still, whatever, and 30 minutes to show them the images and sell the packages. If one client shows up 5 minutes late or the kid doesn't cooperate then your screwed.

Photography experience is not a requirement. You just need a high school diploma. They will teach you how to use the camera - lights are rigged to automatic settings, so the photographer doesn't have to deal with them directly. Put kid on dot - point and shoot. Your not allowed to change the settings.

Back on Topic:

Vetta sales are on sale now. IS is offering a discount for Vetta purchases and giving Vetta contributors double RC's to help them make their end of year goals. Nothing is available for non-Vetta although there is supposed to be some big F5 announcement soon.

I wonder if they mean you can only spend those credits for two weeks. You can buy them from 12/11 - 12/17 but can only spend them from 12/11 to 12/24.

For what it's worth I received a PM noting that the second batch had been approved since Oct. They just never sent me a notice about it. When I signed up I unchecked "email me offers, newsletters and cool stuff." This apparently turns off all email - including notifications that your images have been approved/rejected.

My particular account is having the added issue of being stuck in a loop. I can only get to the account page - where it tells you how to buy credits. There is no link to the workspace or dashboard. There trying to figure that one out.

customers shouldn't be seeing it at all, since it's a way for contributors to brag about their uploads and sales.

It's the Facebook connect button. If you link your facebook account through it then you can post when you have new images or sales, with a link to the images. I don't know how you would disable it. It only pops up if you have new sales or approved uploads - which explains why Lisa gets it all the time. :)

They were having a glitch issue with it earlier this month, it have reset to everyone when they fixed the glitch.

It's an issue of trademark. You can look at a Bentley, even without the logo and know it's a Bentley. The same for a Smart car, Harley Davidson, Porsche, etc. Some trademark holders, like Harley Davidson, are well known for protecting their brand. They guard their rights rigorously. The same applies to certain buildings, the Eiffel Tower at Night, Sydney Opera House, etc.

When these items come up they are rejected because you do not have a property release from the trademark/property owner. The nature of RF is that you can't guarantee usage. An example is you upload an image of a McDonald's building with the classic red roof, and PS out the arches. The image is licensed for usage in an ad about a brothel. People now associate McDonald's red roof building with brothels and McDonald's goes after the advertiser for Trademark infringement. The advertiser goes after the stock site - where the fine print reads that you are responsible for legal fees.

It's cheaper and easier to just reject the image of the building unless there is a release to go with it.

I applied back in Sept. All but one image were rejected, leaving me to believe that they weren't serious about taking new contributors. Brian sent me a PM asking me to try again. I uploaded 10 new images, but I'm still waiting for the results of that upload. I'm really wondering if this is a legit site. 2 months and still no word about an initial upload of images the site owner asked me to resend.

From Chad, in the FT thread about the Unsold Tab being removed.

Fotolia decided to stop the program to pay members for adding images to the free section. It didn't seem like that big of news to make an announcement. I will circle back with the tech team to make sure they turn off the automated email.
