I'm deactivating images in batches. Started with the Dollar Bin images that I didn't know where in the Dollar Bin and have been working through the non-sellers to get to a payout. Once I hit the payout minimum I started going through other images. Originally I was going to call CS on Dec 31st and ask that my account be closed, but now I'm thinking I may just delete everything that isn't an 'Lypse image (which are required to be sold only on IS, per the trip arrangements), since I can't upload them anywhere else anyway.

Front page is predicting Nov 23rd as the date. The Tuesday before Thanksgiving in the US, and traditionally the last workday before the holiday break.

Overall I like the page. I would find it helpful if we could zoom in the map or be able to click on the images and get a listing with image stats like number of times sold and countries/states that it was licensed in.

130

there is one $2,000 prize. Not $2,000 per category. Even though they can't win they are encouraging people from the banned states/countries to enter so that their images will be in the lightbox, the images will just be disqualified in the contest. In addition they have removed the "previous year" rule. So you can nominate anything you want - as long as you don't delete it from the site.

If others are doing what I'm doing then they need this contest to stop people from deleting their portfolios one image at a time.

I read this differently, not that I have interest in entering:

"On December 15 we will award 10 Stockys to iStock artists in categories like Artistic Vision, Technical Achievement, and Most Useful. Each award comes with a fancy icon, pride, and $2000 cash."

As usual IS has posted conflicting information. From the last bullet point under "How this works"

Quote
"From November 22-December 3 the whole iStock community is invited to cast one vote in each category. Voting will give you an entry into a draw for $2000 and 2000 iStock credits."

131
Race - checking the site today, it appears that my images  have finally been removed. The images you referenced were not mine. Mine were isolated.

132
Not that promises mean much to IS but the last time credit prices were discussed we were promised that no matter what credits were sold for, the calculation minimum was 95 cents. So even in the buyer paid 70 cents, independents would still get 20% of 95 cents. This was said to soothe concerns about the minimum per credit package pricing dropping below a dollar, and contributors wondering about sales on credit packages and such.

133
None of the PP links work correctly. The only way to have images removed is to get a hold of customer service and convince them to do it. And yes they expected me to list out 600+ numbers in an email so that they could remove them. This number is interesting because I only have 500 ish images still on IS, so when you delete an image from IS it dosen't automatically mean that they stop selling it on TS.

... with a little stab of a statement to finish it off (see "we are undersigned" thread lock)

Yes, I saw that little flourish and thought that was totally uncalled for - sort of kicking someone when they're already on the ground just 'cause you can.

You should call it as you see it. I wasn't trying to talk you out of it, just put another point of view.

Especially in the "what have you done for me lately" culture that Getty/IS is morphing into, anything nice or helpful someone did a while back isn't worth anything anyway. Or at least it's worth the same as the promise that Vetta prices wouldn't go up this year, or canisters would be grandfathered, or...

He deleted the last post, then posted himself and locked the thread. It would have made more sense if he had left it.

OMG!!!!!!!!!

After being told that I would have to write down all the numbers I complained about how I was supposed to find the images. I was told to search for my name and they would come up. I searched for my name and nothing appeared. I searched for keywords I often use and found several images. I called contributors relations back and got a different girl. She told me they could just put in to have my entire portfolio removed from Thinkstock but it will take 5 to 7 days.

Now I have to wait a week to see if they can manage to do this!

136
According to customer relations I have to write down all of the image numbers individually and email them to contributor relations if I want the images manually pulled down. Otherwise, they will be left up until they get around to fixing the port.

137
I noticed that even after opting out 3 times from the PP that the system continued to mark me as in the program. I posted in their forums and was told it was a glitch. However, looking at thinkstock's website I came across this...

http://www.thinkstockphotos.com/search/#boy%20superhero%20blond/f=PIHV

The isolated boy with the blue cape are all my images. Really not happy about there decision to put all images on thinkstock regardless of our opting out.

People want to feel they are valued as employees. They want to enjoy their job. So your studies stand against my studies ;-)

Nothing says "I value you" more than cash compensation. :D

Even the best jobs breed resentment if you are working as hard as you can with ever decreasing returns.

That's Another fallacy. Point me to a single person who has had decreasing returns at iStock. The absolute figures people have earned over the years has risen constantly. That's what people keep admitting on iStock's forums.

Oct 2007 - 148 - $118 (exclusive)
Oct 2008 - 108 - $161 (first full month after dropping exclusivity - best month of any between 2003 and 2010)
Oct 2009 - 79 - $87 (independent)
Oct 2010 - 31 - $40 (independent)

Uploaded 150 images from 2008 to 2010.

The contest is simply a ploy to try to get your mind off the last few weeks. Several states and countries are ineligible due to laws and the there is one $2,000 prize.

I can't speak for anyone else, but it's not in my business plan to lose money. I spend alot of time, money and effort on my photo shoots. I expect a decent return and a fair chance for them to be seen by buyers. Instead of ranting in the forums I've been deleting images from the site, roughly 160 so far. I only hope that as more people realize that IS has become nothing more than a machine that is looking for slave labor, that they are also deleting their images and that this tedious one at a time process is keeping them to busy to rant in the forums.

If you don't meet your RC quota by Dec. 30th then you will be paid a lower percentage starting Jan 1. If your images aren't in the first few pages of the search then you aren't getting sales.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Copyright Issues On Historical Sites?
« on: October 13, 2010, 09:34 »
Some historical sites are owned my preservation societies or other foundations. In some cases those organizations will trademark the property or declare it "private, but open to the public". In that case you would need a property release from the location owner for the images to be used commercially.

IS and SS were down about the same for downloads but SS maintained the royalty figures while IS dropped significantly. DT surprised me with a BME and FT has maintained.

New Sites - General / Re: How to change RM to RF on Zoonar

Thanks, I just didn't want the images being marketed as RM when they were RF everywhere else.

When I am in edit mode (with the drop down options) it's fine. But on the listings page it still reads RM/RF.

New Sites - General / How to change RM to RF on Zoonar
« on: October 03, 2010, 19:30 »
I uploaded mostly micro images to Zoonar, but once they were approved they were pre-set for RM. I didn't make this choice - it was never an option. I've gone through and edited them to RF but now they read as RM/RF. How do I take them out of RM?

:'(
I just became a diamond contributor at Istock (a few minutes ago).
I knew this would happen somewhere in Autumn, and I was looking forward to this milestone for months.
Now why am I not celebrating ???

errr .... because you still get 20% regardless?

Nope. If you don't make 1.4 million in RC's then you drop below 20%

Veer / Re: Veer? what are they doing??
« on: September 28, 2010, 12:50 »
I've only been rejected from one other place. That was in 2004. We'll see.

148
It was a thought.

149
Here's my thought on why they didn't wait. RC's are based on cost of the image. Each credit is an RC. If they raise the Vetta pricing now then they have a better chance of proving their point about the contributors making "1/2" of their credits in the last 3 months of the year. If they can prove they were right, and exclusives manage to get back to their canister percentages, then exclusives may choose to stick around after January rather than leave or drop the crown, which many are stating they have/will.

My images were reviewed within a week, all were rejected and I was told not to contribute anymore. I guess they only want IS diamonds to apply.
