iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock's NEW model release requirements
« on: August 27, 2009, 06:25 »
This is getting out of control. I understand the concept of wanting a release for each shoot - but let's look at the practicality. IS does not have a practical way to deal with MR storage. If I shoot an adult, a teen and a child then I have to upload a minimum of 6 different MR JPEG's. This is because you must use PS and stitch the various MRs together depending on how you shoot.

There is DeepMeta but that has other issues with the new system. I tend to name the model release after the model - that way I know which one I need. When you import the MR into DeepMeta it retains the name of the file. So for a shoot in March with Jane Doe I will have an MR called "JaneDoe" and for the shoot in July I will have another MR called "JaneDoe". The fact that you have to rely solely on 3rd party software to be efficent at all is another issue all together.

I seriously doubt that the other agencies will take the new release. Understandably they won't take anything with IS's name on it. I have yet to see a release from IS that didn't have their name and address at the top along with their copyright mark on the bottom.

Cutcaster / CC site is down
« on: August 23, 2009, 09:35 »
Sunday Aug 23rd 10:30 am est.

The site won't come up at all. I get a variety of messages from domain doesn't exist to can't find the server.

Was there a scheduled downtime that I missed the announcement for?

Bigstock.com / Payout changes at BigStock
« on: August 20, 2009, 22:02 »
BigStock issued this announcement on Aug 19th. (Wed)

Minimum commission request amount being raised to $50 next week

Contributors:
We are raising the minimum commission payout to $50 next week. We have held ours at $30 for a long time but the industry standard is much higher and due to the high volume of $30 requests, we need to raise it to $50.

Thank you for understanding, we sincerely hope that this doesn't affect anyone appreciably.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Payouts Held Up Again?
« on: August 20, 2009, 21:52 »
I'm really not found of IS's payment set up. I requested money on the 13th (Thurs.). According to the calendar paypal payments are usually made on Mon. so I expected payment on the 17th. That was a holiday so I expected payment on the 18th. Still nothing. I looked all over the site to see if I was reading the calendar wrong and eventually wrote a note to support.

I got a response from support that it's was "processed" on the 17 (on a holiday?) and that I would be payed on the 24th. No where on the calendar does it spell out that you have to wait over 10 days from the time you request the money before you get it.

My uploads usually say 67 hours. but I think it depends on what your uploading and how busy those inspectors are.

This is good to know. I live on a Native American reservation and we do not have door to door mail service. I have often gotten rejections for not using a street address either for myself or for the model. The way our mail system works is that if there is a house number and street name in the address then it is returned to the sender as undeliverable.

I've tried explaining this to multiple agencies but the common thought amoung them is that they would rather have a house number and street name than to actually be able to contact anyone using the information in the MR.

Print on Demand Forum / Re: Any experience with Zazzle?
« on: August 19, 2009, 07:03 »
Would anyone know of a site like this that would have ORGANIC Ts, caps, etc..? I haven't found any yet. Most of them have the one organic T by AA but I would like more variety.

Zazzle has a section of items that are organic. They don't have a monthly fee. You set the royalty amount you want over their minimum of 10%. You can read about it here. http://www.zazzle.com/sell/products/nameyourroyalty

I have an account on Zazzle. http://www.zazzle.com/azurelaroux

It's a bit of a mess. I put all of a my ideas in one place so my stuff doesn't really have a focus. I also wasn't bing on marketing the project so I've had very few sales.

« on: August 15, 2009, 09:54 »
I'm not having any issues but I'm using the DeepMeta program. I find it's the only practical way to upload to IS. Now if I could just get past the "Too feathered or too rough" issue.  ::)

Mostphotos.com / Re: Mail contact from buyer ?? Legit or not ?
« on: August 15, 2009, 09:50 »
I've had a contact made similar to this. He found my personal website through my profile on IS. We talked and I made up a very specific contract. After it was signed he was able to view images with large watermarks online. After I received the payment, via paypal, and it cleared I mailed the disk with the images.

He wanted specific images that he couldn't find on the stock sites - and he needed a complete series to illustrate a book.

If the deal is legitimate then they will give you some specifics in the first contact email and will usually say how they found you. You can then use your head to request further details and proof that they are for real and not just dragging you along. Also be aware of anyone who "accidentally" over pays you. Particularly on a deposit.

That's another variation of a scam that's been going around for years.

DIVIDE AND CONQUER!

It's working AGAIN!  Why are we fighting amongst ourselves?  Don't you see what happened at iStock?  Can't you see Dreamstime doing exactly the same thing.  Get the contributors fighting amongst themselves.  Make it better for some by lowering rates for others.  The "some" will join you in shouting down the "others."  Then... lower the boom on the "some."

I wonder how long exclusives at iStock will be smiling?  Maybe six months; maybe a year.  Will it be until iStock comes up with a way to divide the exclusives into smaller groups?  Is that the purpose of Vetta?  I'm sure they have the plan in place.  None of this is Knee Jerk.  It is all planned into the future ... five year plans; ten year plans.  We are killing ourselves because we can't stick together.  And, the Big Man knows it.  ... or Woman.   ::)

They already have - it's why I left exclusivity there.

No. We used to be able to click on Download Details and see who licensed the image but they stopped reporting that.

Contributor page -> My files -> Sold Files

This will bring up a page with all the sold images, date sold, license type and credits earned.

If you just want to see the totals you can go to Statistics instead of Sold files and use the form to see how much you sold for a set timeframe.

Vetta is only available to exclusives at IS, and if history is correct, only select exclusives ever get their work accepted. Betta is open to all CC contributors who submit outstanding work. I will admit I'm not fond of the name but at least CC has some variety and is not making up a payment system so confusing that you can't figure out what your royalty is supposed to be.

A fan page, also known as a Facebook Page, is like a FB page for your business. You can post to the wall, use RSS to publish your blog, start discussions, post images and get feedback from your fans. The main difference is that there are no "friends". Instead of friends you get fans.

When you click "become a fan" then you will get updates when that person updates the page. For example when I post new images or that I'm looking for new models on my fan page then it shows up on the fans home page. However because they are not necessarily friends I do not get their postings on my personal FB home page.

For more info here is a link to Facebooks info page about them.

http://www.facebook.com/advertising/?pages

You can search for it on Facebook just like you would search for a friend. After you get 1,000 fans the site will let you have a custom name so that the link it easier to find.

A search for any well known actor or musician should bring up plenty of fan pages. If you want to check out mine it's under Azure LaRoux

I posted about it there but they didn't seem to know what a fan page was. They asked me for more clarification. I need to get back to the DT site to see if there was response but I'm on vaca and computer access is limited.

I just wish it would post to fan pages. I have a fan page for all of my image work that is relatively separate from my regular account.

I got to the survey fine using the link in the original post. I will have to say that if your not getting any sales then none of the questions mean much of anything.

Where can we read the contributors agreement? That's part of why I posted here. It sounds good but the devil is in the details.

The IS partnership is/was with Vox. I don't know if it's still up and running or not. There was a lot of back and forth when it first came out. Bloggers wanted larger size images and no watermarks, contributors wanted big watermarks and small size images and guarantees that the TOS would be enforced.

In the end no one got what they wanted. We ended up with 3 step click throughs on the images which were a hassle, searches that produced no more than 8 images (so you usually couldn't find your own stuff to but in your blog) and anyone who was caught misusing the images just set their blog to "private" so they didn't get hassled by IS. I will say that bloggers are still looking for imagery for their blogs and since many of them use free services like Blogger to post with they aren't likely to have any desire to pay for images.

The Vox deal was also the first "Do it my way or else" deal that IS came out with. You could opt out of the Vox thing but that would take your name off the list for everything else. For exclusives it meant you could never have POTW, and your work would never be used in IS advertising.

I don't have the link on hand but there was a blog about how bloggers have a hard time finding images. Since most do the blogs on a volunteer basis and use free services like Blogger to write up their blogs they are not about to pay to use an image.

I was having a similar issue. If I upload via the website I would get a login error. Uploading via FTP works fine though.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Model release form change
« on: July 08, 2009, 11:38 »
The problem being that one of the recommended visual references is a DL. Then you read the last paragraph where it says that the model release will be shared with sub-licensees and it's cause for alarm.

from the release - "including by being shared with sub-licensees / assignees of the Photographer / Filmmaker and transferred to countries with differing data protection and privacy laws where it may be stored, accessed and used."

This is no longer a release, it's a contract. That's why photographer's have to sign it as well.
