General Stock Discussion / Re: Bottlenecking...where do you?
« on: December 03, 2008, 04:56 »
Hi Antonino,

let's say that for an average studio shoot, most of my time is taken by prop / lights / reflectors / lens / tripod / subject setup. It might take up to one hour to find the good one...

Then:
- 10 sec copy from CF to Incoming folder
- 20-60 sec selection of best shoot
- 30 sec RAW processing to TIFF 16bit
- 10 sec trash of remaining pics
- 60 sec PS editing
- 30 sec keywording
- 10 sec save as TIFF 8bit to TIFF Archive
- 10 sec move RAW to RAW Archive
- 5 sec convert to JPG
- 5 sec save as JPS to Outgoing folder
- 10 to 60 sec upload to agency
- 5 sec delete JPG from Outgoing folder
- 10 sec set state = pending in DAM

Of course during upload I start processing the next one so that time is not impacting my workflow.

Hope can help.

iStockPhoto.com / Do u also have files stuck in approval queue??
« on: November 30, 2008, 13:32 »
Hi pals,

there is anybody here still having files stuck in approval queue?

I have 56 files stuck in the queue with the oldest being uploaded on 15th of November...

This issue, just before holiday season, is really annoying!!!

bye!

Hi Lifiteta,

is not a matter of PC or MAC, but just a matter of the quality of the LCD display you are using.

If you are using a PC (like I do) just need a display able to cover at least the sRGB color space + hardware display calibrator + room with low-moderate lighting. The best will be to have one able to display Adobe RGB but this category falls into the high range of the market.

Pleae post your display brand and model, perhaps someone here can help to find out if is doable for microstock.

Hi, Adelaide,

unfortunately same result here, there is something broke in the system, I think...  :(

Thanks for the reply Unicorn,

but this is really time wasting...
As I don't need to do almost anything with my already uploaded pics it should be good if during the portfolio import Cushy could import also the watermarked images.

Are u meaning that  I can import each portfolio from each Stock Agencies automatically with no user intervention? Currently for each imported photo I must give the location of the photo locally.

"Portfolio import from stock agencies"

Thanks.

Aetherial: do not worry, is not your fault!

Sharpshot: no, I am still exclusive on IS and upload my imagery only there.
The info on StockXpert are for my wife Tina who post as non-exclusive also on IS, FT, DT and SS.

Thanks Adelaide,

I will follow your tip and will let you know...

Thanks Aetherial, but doesn't work!

In have been trying doing as follow:
- input compound keywords separated by either normal commas or quotation marks
- presso OK to confirm
- click on pic...

...and the result is always that in the keywords field all the compounded keywords are broken in individual keywords. So If input "from above" then I found "from, above".

I don't understand what's wrong with my steps.

Software - General / Anyone wants a Cushystock license?
« on: October 21, 2008, 14:09 »
Dears,

I am giving away for 50% of retail price a license for latest version of Cushystock.

With no offense for the developer who made truly excellent job, only after the purchase, I realized that Cushystock is not the tool i am looking for.

For those interested, payment on Paypal.

Dear All,

I just purchased a license for CushyStock and started to familiarize with it.
I have tried to import a portfolio from an agency and Cushy is asking me to match each image he retrieve from the web with a local JPG file.
Is this meaning that I need to feed Cushy with all the folders that contain the JPG images?

Is this also meaning that i need to keep for Cushy a set of folder with all JPEG for his management?

If YES this is quite disturbing for me as my Archive is made of RAW+TIFF, all JPG are deleted after submission...

Thanks,

Antonio

Drobo, Yes seems very good (I where almost at the point to buy one) but if you are just starting I doubt you need that huge storage space...

All my data are kept in E-Sata 3GB/S Hard Drive (one 1TB for Portfolio + one 1TB for RAW) and backup are done using standard 3,5" HD plugged temporalily with Sharkon HD Docking Station (http://www.sharkoon.com/html/produkte/externe_gehaeuse/sata_quickport_pro/index_en.html).
After the double backup, one copy is kept in the studio in a safe location and second copy is kept outside studio in safe location. So in case studio get burned I still have one backup copy somewhere else.
Copies are done every Friday night or during the weekend (when not traveling).

Newbie Discussion / Re: Image management

Hi Corkie,

I manage my images with Extensis Portfolio. The information about the agencies are kept in 3 custom Database Fields: "Agency Name", "Agency Status" and "Agency Code".

The image database is simply made of folders organized by categories and sub-categories:

01 - China
 01 - Beijing
  01 - Temple of Heaven
 02 Tibet
 03 Xinjiang
 04 Yunnan

02 - Thailand

03 - Japan

04 - Concepts
 01 - Environment
 02 - Business

05 - Industry
 01 - Agriculture

So each file is named by the number of the category. This means that all pictures of Temple of Heaven in Beijing are named 01.01.01.0001.tif, 01.01.01.0002.tif, etc

Raw are kept on a mirror Folders structure with same naming.

JPEGs are deleted soon after the submission to the agencies.

The good think about Extensis Portfolio is that I manage the whole portfolio AND information about agencies in one single software! Metadata from new added pictures are pulled automatically into Portfolio database.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: NEW!! Canon Powershot G10
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:16 »
I own a G9.
Personally I really don't like IQ, even at 80-100 ISO.
Even in quite even and smooth light situation some of the areas with bright tone come up with blows and not-recoverable highlights.

I feel Canon R&D guys squeezed too many MP's in that tiny sensor.

I just keep it for family and friends snapshot.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Graduated ND
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:11 »
For me:

#1 B+W. The only drawback is that they come with round threaded frame and therefore you cannot shift them vertically in order to adjust the horizon line. The trick here is to buy the largest one (86mm I guess) and hold it by hand. Glass quality IMHO is far better than any other filter used.

#2 Singh-Ray very good but perhaps bit overpriced

#3 Hoya Quite good

I don't like Cokin as they are not made of Optical Glass and therefore prone to flare, cast and... easy to scratch!

Microstock Services / Cushy Stock or Prostockmaster???
« on: September 11, 2008, 04:19 »
I am going to purchase a tool to automate the pics submission process but I am not clear enough which SW is better, Cushy Stock or Prostockmaster?

Thanks for sharing with me your experience with those two tools.

Cheers!

Antonio
