Cameras / Lenses / Re: Microdrives (6GB) for sale
« on: September 22, 2006, 13:43 »
I have a couple 2GB Ridata SD cards I've used in various cameras.  You can always do a search for reviews, or maybe head to newegg.com and check out user reviews of the Ridata cards there.  They're a good deal, good performance, and I've had no problems with them at all.  I wouldn't hesitate to buy their brand again in the future.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Noise Reduction Software?
« on: September 22, 2006, 13:34 »
You might want to look at your photos, and see where the noise occurs.  Shooting at as low an ISO as possible helps.  Also, proper exposure can help a lot too.  A lot of times the noise may be limited to underexposed or shadowy areas.  If you have noise occuring only in small/isolated spots, with little detail (e.g. in shadow areas), you can also try using the smudge tool to get rid of the noise.  That way you don't risk loss of detail to the rest of your photo.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime Down - Aug 29th

I've been able to get to it no problem.  It was a little slow navigating their forums, but other than that, I haven't had any problems.

Good luck,

Kevin

I think somebody posted a link to this site on dpreview.  I can't remember for sure though.

New Sites - General / Re: new site - citizen image

It seems weird to me that they only accept images using Adobe RGB colorspace (not sRGB).  Is that a requirement at a lot of microstock sites?

Wow, this is truly awesome.  What a clever scam.  Think of the kind of mind it takes to come up with something like this, and then the lack of conscience it takes to implement it.  This is the same kind of person that sells Xbox 360 Boxes on ebay -- and people pay $350 and find out that they literally bought only the cardboard box. Wow.

General Stock Discussion / Re: TotallyPhotos down???
« on: August 14, 2006, 13:44 »
I wouldn't worry too much yet.  I'm just speculating here, but since they needed to take the site down for rebranding, maybe they're changing the host location to some service provider closer to the purchaser?  Who knows.

But you're right, it's definitely not very professional to just bring the site down without some page left to notify photographers and customers what's going on.  It's not a very good way for the new ownership to start this relationship in my opinion.

If I remember right, didn't the written notice that the site had been sold say something about the site being taken down some time soon for rebranding?  Or at least that's the impression I got from the note.

In that case, maybe it should be something like :P:

5,000 -- Vacuum
10,000 -- Blowhard
20,000 -- Windbag
50,000 -- Super Ultimate Ninja Windbag

Software - General / Re: Windows Vista
« on: August 03, 2006, 20:03 »
Personally I wouldn't use a beta OS on a primary machine :)  If you have a spare machine, or even just a spare drive (they're so cheap now) you can swap in, I'd suggest you give it a shot.  That way you have some idea how it works, and whether or not you like it, before it's out.

I think the whole "wait for the 1st or 2nd SP" thing is way overblown.  I might use that caution when deploying in a business environment, but for home use it doesn't make sense to me.  If there's some new app/release that has features I want, I'll wait till it's out long enough that I can read a few reviews on it, and if it sounds good I pick it up.  I wouldn't call myself a cowboy, although I do love old Clint Eastwood westerns.  I just know if something "breaks" because of some software on my machine, I can fix it easily enough.  Or I play with it in a sandbox where it can't do any damage anyway.

For an OS, I would suggest taking note of the important apps you use (anti-virus, PS, etc), make a note of your hardware, then after Vista is out, search around to see if anybody is running into any issues.  I remember when XP came out, there were lots of little driver problems, and some apps just wouldn't run.  But most of those problems were resolved within a period of weeks/months (way before any SP was released).

Good luck,

Kevin
