New Sites - General / Re: When is Vivozoom going live?
« on: April 03, 2009, 19:34 »
Why the excitement over Vivozoom?

For the very same reason that people:

-reply to scam emails
-buy cheap junk they know won't work before they buy it
-go to church on Sunday

snicker, snicker  :D

Suppose you took photos of a model (or just a friend) and did not ask a release, then later you decide to take a new series of images and this time you ask him/her to sign a release.  This release would not not be valid for the first session, would it?

I guess it would depend on the model release and if it was specific to the date of the photo shoot. The ones I use arent specific. Like I said before im only shooting friends and family so its not a big deal. I understand stock sites have no idea that the models I use are just friends, but I have been using the same releases for a couple years and never had a problem until recently and I submit at 20+ sites.

i have hit one payout, but sales are few and far between. rejections are getting really lame.

There are cases where they should be a new release and cases when the same one is fine. I usually create a year long release for my immediate family. Although it is technically incorrect. I don't recall having problems for such a release. But if it is a paid model you should really get a new release each time. It's part of the job.

None of my models are paid.

I can see why you should upload new releases, I just have never had a problem with using the same model release so I was curious.

OK - let's go Tom and Lawrence, how about an update on the progress of the site - an email or something soon?  I'm losing my enthusiasm so my uploads have slowed down.  I hope you're not waiting around for some bailout money to come your way before you roll out the site.  I'm generally a very patient person - have to be, I'm a public school teacher - but I'm beginning to wonder.  Frequent communication helps.

Ken

I'll second that. I have emailed them a few times and they always get back to me but im getting pretty frustrated with those guys. I had a bunch a crazy rejections and I emailed them about it and they agreed that my photos should have been accepted but wanted me to upload everything again.  Like I have time for that.

123RF / Re: First download after only 3 weeks!

sales at 123rf have always been pretty good for me and they accept most of my stuff. I have 3,000+ images there.

I just got a reject at istockphoto for a shot of two models because the dates on the model releases didnt match up? I had a few different shots from this series accepted already and had no problem with them anywhere else so I emailed IS support and figured the reviewer just made mistake.

I just heard back from IS and apparently they want a new model release for a model each time you photograph the model. I looked around on IS and could find nothing saying I needed to do this.

Can you imagine if sites that store your model releases (almost all of them do) required this. I have a few models I use all the time, if I had to upload a new release to Dreamstime every time I did a new photoshoot it would be ridicules.

Has anyone else had this problem? Does anybody out there get new model releases for the same model?

Thanks

General Stock Discussion / Re: Inspiration?
« on: April 02, 2009, 09:44 »
The best artists die poor anyways. Van Gogh didn't have an eye for the market at that time. Renoir did, painting high class rich ladies on social events with colorful umbrellas.

I dont think this is necessarily true anymore. I mean im sure there are a lot of great artists who will never make any money (or significant money) off their art, but I think with the way the media is now mainly the web if you are a good artist there are thousands of ways to get your stuff out there and make a name for yourself that just wasnt available in Van Gogh's time.

Look at Chase Jarvis for example. I think he is doing pretty well for himself now, I think if he died it would only hurt his career.

So what's your inspiration?

Paying my mortgage...

Lol, i'll second that! Ive never really had a problem coming up with ideas, quite the opposite actually. I keep lists of ideas so when I have time to shoot I always have lots of ideas to choose from.

This is my BME at Fotolia and Fotolia earnings take 3rd place this month (usually it was 4th or even 5th).

I had a pretty good month at Fotolia, not BME, but good.

New Sites - General / Re: What up with thephotostorage.com?
« on: April 01, 2009, 09:46 »
I don't know why I even bother to continue uploading.  Same deal - it's easy.  One more ftp to upload to, then one click and I'm done.  No MR's to deal with even, like Mostphotos.  All micros should be that simple.

I'll second that. These new sites really have to keep the upload process simple to keep people submitting even though they aren't getting any sales.

DT was down for a little while, but seems to be working now.

the 5d handles high iso really well, I have got shots at ISO 1600 accepted just about everywhere.

Dreamstime and iStock are the only sites I ever have a hard time with MR's. I would recommend using Yuri's like others suggested.

A lot of "former" Olympus users here. I had an E-330 which was a great and fun camera but not the best option for stock IMO.

the only reason i started out on Olympus is because it was the best deal of of the Canon and Nikon at the time. When I was looking to upgrade I wanted to go with Canon or Nikon and I felt the 5d was the best camera for the money so that is the one I got. Im very happy with it.

I started out on the Olympus e-500 and am using the Canon 5d now.

I found this on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/cameras/ looks like most Flickr users are using Canon too.

i havent noticed any slow down with the new changes at DT, im having a pretty good month actually.

Hello,

Do you use editing with photoshop or any other software to your photos or you just keep it as it is?

I would estimate that I use post-processing with Photoshop on approximately 100% of my shots

I'll second that

Bigstock.com / Re: Got my first download at BigStock!
« on: March 25, 2009, 17:03 »
Vish,

BigStock is not a big seller for me (and I believe for nobody) but it is a steady seller and the US$30 minimum payouts are a treat.

Regards,
Adelaide

I really wish some other sites would adopt the $30 min payout too.

just signed up with twitter http://twitter.com/travismanley

I have been playing around with photo sharing sites to generate interest in my site and photography. It seems like most of the contacts I get from Flickr are only interested in using my photos if the price is right ($0.0), I tell people they can buy my stuff for under a dollar at most stock sites and they are just not interested.

Dont make the mistake of watermarking your stuff like I did, just upload low res versions.

I voted for IS ant FT. I like these sites just fine and they make me good money, they just get my vote for general attitude toward contributors and silly rejections.
