His brother makes great pants.

Kevin?  ;D

Let's leave his brother alone.  ;)

No, it's Calvin  who makes the pants.
Kevin is the black sheep of the family, who's better known by his alter ego: Judge Ross at Crestock.

lol...too true

its not a bad shot, just a little busy and the cropping could be better.

I wouldnt recommend submitting upsized Alamy images to other sites. Its hard enough getting your regular images accepted without upsizing them.

I occasionally get rejects for upsizing even though I dont, talk about annoying.

what do you consider steady? i have seen regular sales and payout since I joined.

Quote by SS FAQ:

How much will I be paid as a submitter?
Our current payout rate for Standard License 25-A-Day Subscription downloads is: $.25 (25 cents per image download). After earning a total of $500, your rate increases to $.33 per download. Once you surpass a total lifetime earnings of $3,000, your rate will increase to $.36 per download, and after you reach $10,000 in lifetime earnings, your rate will increase to $.38 per download.

Oh man! I thought the $.38 increase was after $5,000 not $10,000. I guess its going to be awhile before I get that one  :'(

So far all my OD sales were for $1.88. Today I had one for $0.81. Has anyone seen this price before?

Mine are always the same.

Chris, don't get demotivated. I was also rejected 3 times before I got in. Just shoot more, look at your pictures, choose a few. If you can't post on the IS forum, somone can post them for you or you can post somewhere else as you suggested. I'm sure you will get in if you don't give up.

Three seems to be the magic number, that is how many times it took me. I dont know if they are still doing it the same but when I applied you submitted three photos and if they didnt like one or two of the three you could just submit one or two more until you ended up with three they liked.

The only other site I had a hard time getting accepted at was stockxpert and im glad I didnt give up.

Wow...just submitted my photos and had all but 8 out of 26 rejected for "not being up to their standards." They also reviewed them about ten minutes after I submitted them, if they are able to review photos that fast they must be really slow right now.

Im wondering if things are starting to slow down because so many people have stopped submitting, maybe someone over there should check out this thread.

Im about two hours west of Seattle, but with the price of gas + ferry + parking I dont think I will be able to make it. Sounds like fun though. I would like to meet the other five stock photographers living in the Pacific Northwest  ;)

LOL, I think there may be up to a dozen of us up here :)

Mat

I'm about two hours east of Seattle, but not sure what I'd do with an Apple gift certificate.  :-\

Ya, same here. I dont think I have ever even been in an Apple store.

"how many sites do you feel is practical"

I dont think there is really a good way to answer this question. I dont mind submitting to new sites that might have bad or zero sales because as long as the upload process isnt too tedious you just never know when they are going to blow up and start rejecting all your photos.

I actively submit to around 15 sites, about half of those I actually get regular sales.

I have now about 12 images in IS's dollar bin.

What is the IS dollar bin?

I saw today something strange with my pending images .....
There are still images pending from late januari while new images got approved already.....
Someone knows the meaning of this ?

I have this happen a lot too. just email them and they will review them. I think there is a glitch that causes this top happen every now and then.

I usually get one EL a month at SS...maybe every other month, but that is still a lot more than other sites and at $28 too.

Photoshop Discussion / Re: Water reflection plugin ??
« on: March 16, 2009, 16:25 »
You can easily double the size of your porfolio.  Flood everything ;)

If used in right places, theres no chance to tell its fake.   Well,  and then theres those cheesy looking images...

Not to be a jerk or anything, but do images with that fake water reflection really sell? I dont think I have ever seen one done where it looked "natural" or maybe I have and it was done so well I didnt catch it.

What is the point of taking an isolated photo and adding a ripple? Wouldnt that lower the value of the photo because it wouldnt be "technically" isolated?

« on: March 16, 2009, 16:22 »
Review time is usually around a week for me. Rejections have gotten a little better now that I rekeyword every image just for IS and am only submitting my best stuff. I was trying to submit everything but at 15 photos a week I would never catch up.

1. Will Fotolia automatically delete photos that have not sold in 24 months?  :'(

If I remember right didnt fotolia and dreamstime say they were going to start deleting unsold images a year or two ago?

"Is iStock worth the effort?"

I guess that all depends on how patient you are. If sales were not so good It would be the first on my list to drop.

If you dont plan on going exclusive get used to feeling like your "second class."

Bigstock.com / Re: People leaving?
« on: March 16, 2009, 16:08 »
I like BigStock, sales have always been steady and are getting better.

I have noticed something a little strange, most of my sales seem to be on really old stuff? I rarely notice sales on newer images ( I do occasionally). I wonder why that is.

222
You mean you haven't gotten the third email yet with the $5,000 signing bonus?

lol.....your joking right? I would be all over that  ;D

223
Got the same email today. Here was my response.

Thank you for the invitation, but I signed up with your site last June. At that time I uploaded the twelve highest sellers from my 'impressive photos' and I have yet to see a single sale.  Please don't hesitate to contact me again when your marketing efforts are up to speed.

lol...same here.

I remember getting their first email and how they made it sound like they hand picked me because my photos were amazing or something. I knew it was a mass email but I thought I would give them a shot, 500+ photos later and not a single sale I stopped uploading.

Then I get this second email saying they are following up on the last one. Its like "Really, maybe you should take the two seconds to see that I actually signed up already!" All the more reason to stop uploading.

...Maybe if they get ftp I will start uploading again...

Photo Critique / Re: Is this photo underexposed?
« on: March 12, 2009, 15:33 »
If it were my photo I would have probably lightened it up a bit, but I dont think it is so dark it should be rejected.

225
Ouch...I wonder how many of these emails they have sent out?

I dont know anything about this zymmetrical site, but it is on the "low earners" in the MSG poll results so you think the last thing they would want to be doing to pissing off contributors.

Maybe they are from the same school of thought as Crestock.
