iStockPhoto.com / Re: Deepmeta
« on: March 11, 2009, 16:39 »
and how does it make life easier?

I like it because I pretty much have to rekeyword all my images for IS to avoid rejections, and Deepmeta makes it really easy to copy keywords, categories and model releases to a batch of images.

Deepmeta is a must have for istock contributors. I have been using it for a few months and it is great!

Its too bad they just dont have their site set up so it was easier to submit.

Microstock News / Re: Getty Flikr collection - now live
« on: March 11, 2009, 15:47 »
This is kind of an interesting idea. You think that Flickr would be the last place Getty would be looking for images.

Are there really people out there who's photos are good enough to be on Getty that are totally unaware of it and just posting images on Flickr to share with friends?

Seems like it is just Flickr's way of encouraging professional photographers to post on Flickr to get some good photos on there.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: First sale on CanStockPhoto
« on: March 11, 2009, 12:50 »
I have close to 3,000 images at CanStockPhoto and I signed up about a year ago. I have hit two payouts and I think they were within the last three months. Im glad I stuck it out, I got off to a slow start but I can really see things picking up.

New Sites - General / Re: What up with thephotostorage.com?
« on: March 10, 2009, 14:16 »

I dropped that site a long time ago. If they've shut down, I wouldn't be surprised.

I only keep submitting because its pretty easy (unless you have to attach MR's). I dont think they have shut down, but I noticed the stuff I uploaded a couple weeks ago is still showing up on their main page as "recent uploads."

is there really no one else out there submitting to thephotostorage? I have been trying to upload the same batch for the last two weeks with no luck. I was hoping there was someone else out there submitting so they could let me know if im just being crazy or there is something wrong with the site.

I can log in and everything now, but still no luck. I have emailed them but they are acting like it is a problem on my end.

Sales are really picking up for me. I would say double if not more.

Just give it more time. It took a long time before I got regular sales at DT, but they are my #2 site behind SS.

Crestock.com / Re: I think Crestock is refusing to pay me
« on: March 06, 2009, 15:54 »
I have more than 500$ that I need in their account and they are apparently paying small amounts to be able to pay to more people.

500$ is probably more than they have in their pockets.

I wonder what the deal is. I have had two or three $50 Paypal payouts and they always send me my money pretty quickly after I requested it. Im wondering if the problem is the amount of money you are requesting, not that it should be a problem.

any newbies that you'd recommend anyone??

The only sites I get regular sales at that you didnt mention you sell at already are Featurepics (http://www.featurepics.com/Login/Registration.aspx?refid=7673) and Panthermedia (http://www.panthermedia.net/?aff=125295).

Im looking forward to this new upload system (I havent tried it yet). I actually didnt think the old way was that bad compared to other sites. Things really seem to be picking up at CanStockPhoto.

239
The ONLY reason I continue to upload at Crestock is that uploading is so easy. I have hit a couple payouts, sales actually are getting better.

That site really makes me angry. I stopped looking at my rejections a long time ago because they were so ridicules. I really get the vibe that they think they are something really special when they just dont have the sales to back it up.

I couldnt get anything to upload yesterday and now I can even access the site? I noticed they still had christmas pics up on their main page is this site going down the tubes?

I get the feeling all these microstocks are unstable businesses, constantly changing their game, getting messed up internally for a while and maybe straightening it out later.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The companies that really have it together will be the ones that last.

Yep, that's pretty much been my experience as well. Fotolia "support" is pretty much worthless for any rejection questions, as are the rejection "reasons", and their forums.

I've stopped UL'ing; it just isn't worth the bother.

I think the reason im so frustrated is because I my sales at FT are pretty good, about less than half what I pull in at DT, IS, and SS, but still in my top five. If sales sucked I would just throw in the towel.

Im hoping this is just a phase that will eventually pass. I remember things were like this at Stockxpert for a long time but have got a lot better recently.

243
I am one of the many why started out on Fotolia a couple years ago and got just about everything approved I could throw at them and now my approval rating has dropped through the floor.

My big problem with FT is their rejection reasons are all very vague. More often than not I just get the "your photo was rejected because..." and they list all the reasons it might have been rejected. Talk about lazy reviewing.

The even bigger problem is if you have a question or want a more specific reason why your image was rejected (which im guessing about 99% of people who get rejects are) you have to post on their forum and listen to other contributes speculate over why it might have been rejected and hope maybe someone from FT will actually get on there and answer your question for you.

I am currently having a problem with a rejection I have spent three days posting on the FT forum and have got no response from FT. I finally emailed them and they said that reviews are through a different department so they couldnt help me.

What a waste of time!

Dreamstime.com / Re: Am I Starting To Keyword Spam?
« on: February 19, 2009, 17:27 »
Some banknotes sticking out of the top might have helped clarify the concept. However, if this was the only keyword that was 'ambiguous' then it is unfortunate that the image was rejected.

I thought about having some money sticking out the top,  but correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe microstock sites won't accept images with Canadian money.  It seems USA money is ok if only parts are shown.  Maybe I will have to trade some just so I can redo this idea. lol :D

Photos of money (USD or Canadian) should be fine as long as they are used as part of a composition not just flat scans.

Canon / Cheap macro extension tubes for Canon
« on: February 18, 2009, 17:24 »
I found some really cheap macro extension tubes for Canon on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Macro-Extension-Tube-for-Canon-Camera-Lens-SLR-DSLR_W0QQitemZ260339310215QQihZ016QQcategoryZ64345QQcmdZViewItem?refid=store

The one I got was $21 with free shipping.

Extension tubes are a great way to take great macro and extreme close up photos using the lenses you have already. They are also cheap because they have no glass in them, they are just hallow tubes.

The only drawback on this one is it's built pretty cheap and it does not communicate with your camera so you have to figure out everything manually.

I have some more info on my blog.

I agree. That was mighty considerate of them  ;)

Was this an iSock reject? I wouldnt consider it spam at all, some sites are just crazy when it comes to keywords.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Do you make a living at this?
« on: February 18, 2009, 12:58 »
My photos sales make up about 25-30% of my income after doing this for a couple years. I dont think I will ever get to a point where 100% of my income is from stock, but 90-95% would be pretty cool.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia changes to Exclusivity and other News
« on: February 18, 2009, 12:31 »
Its too bad when a sites solution to promoting exclusivity is by screwing everyone who is not exclusive, all we need is another iStock.

As far as the free photos... I have pretty mixed feelings about giving my photos away for free. Fotolia was the second site is signed up with a couple years ago when I know nothing about photography and they used to accepted just about anything.

I have quite a few images that would qualify for the free section that I would never submit with my new photos now that I am more experienced. Most of these images were all rejected by other sites and are only on FT.

I dont really look at it as giving my images away if FT is willing to give me 50 cents for them. Im not going to offer all my unsolds in the free section, but looking back at some of those pretty bad photos I think 50 cents sounds like a pretty sweet deal.
