CanStockPhoto.com / Re: My first FotoSearch Regular - $19.80
« on: June 10, 2009, 09:56 »
...I uploaded 20 images to test the waters.

Uhhh, how about tossing 2000 images on there. I promise you will have sales...

20 images... that's not a test. You expect that 20 images outsell SS or what? I don't understand.

I totally agree. You really have to work at microstock to see significant sales. Those 20 images are competing with probably at least a million others. Ya my sales are starting to pick up at CanStockPhoto but, I have put a lot of time and energy into that site and have 3,000+ images in my portfolio. How can you complain about a site when you really havent given them a fair chance?

My advise to those struggling with sales is to hang in there. Uploading is such a breeze whats the big deal? I would definitely put CanStockPhoto in the up and coming category. I have been with CanStockPhoto for over a year and have 3,000+ images in my portfolio. Sales were pretty slow at first but have really picked up lately and now with these FotoSearch sales CanStockPhoto things are looking even better.

I got it easy now, it only takes me about two seconds to roll out of bed and crawl into my office down the hall. Its going to be really tough when im done building my studio and have to put some slippers on so my feet dont get cold on the concrete floor.  ;)

55
Oh man, I havent laughed this hard in awhile.  :D

56
cant wait to start getting those video sales too.

57
I dont upload to fotosearch. All my fotosearch sales are through CanStockPhoto.

I use ftp to upload and havent had any problems. If your having trouble you should contact support.

58
Well this sounded good, so I decided it was time to give CanStockPhoto a go.  I just submitted my application. About 60 seconds after the upload completed I got an email saying I'd been accepted.  Wow! (I think...)

Here is my referral link if anyone else is interested in signing up. It sounds like this is the time to give CanStockPhoto a shot if you havent. Uploading is really fast with their new system too.

Adorama is great, I get most of my stuff from them. I dont think I have ever had to sign for an order from them though.

General - Stock Video / Re: REFFER ME TO FOOTAGE SITES
« on: May 20, 2009, 10:59 »
Here are the sites I submit footage to

http://submit.shutterstock.com/?ref=85322
http://www.fotolia.com/p/208133
http://www.istockphoto.com/file_search.php?action=file&userID=1491774

Shutterstock is the easiest to submit to in my opinion. Fotolia isnt too bad, but they are pretty new to video and reviews are really slow.

63
Holy cow! Just had four fotosearch "regular" sales at the medium size for $17-20.

Microstock Services / Re: Yuri Arcurs Keywording Tool
« on: May 20, 2009, 09:53 »
Ahhh, these are retrieved from the 'suggestions' list on picNiche.com and not from the toolbar keywording tool?

Oops, didnt see the keyword tool in the toolbar. My bad.

I tried out the toolbar and it works pretty well. I still feel like I have more control with Yuir's tool, but I will have to play around with this a little more.

I think a couple of ads on the page wouldn't hurt. It would help pay for itself and any improvements.

I used picniche keywording tool the other day and threw everything out but 2. I keep more of the keywords when I use Yuri's. It is more accurate.

I agree, the picniche tool needs a little work. The Yuri tool takes a little more time but yields better results.

Hey Karen & Travis

Just wondering if you could elaborate a little for me please on the picNiche keywording? :)
Were there not enough keywords, or were they inaccurate?
Did refining the query help or hinder your desired results?
Was it something else, UI, ordering, etc?

Any feedback is hugely appreciated :D

It's really slow (as my server is pretty awful for now :( but working on that too :)

Thanks

** Not sure where to put this response as it probably shouldn't be in this thread :/ if you feel it should be somewhere else Leaf please move it :) Thanks

Hey Bob,

I tried the picNiche keyword tool with the word "apple" and these were the results:

apple, fruit, green, health, diet, fruits, red, abstract, food, healthy, background, woman, vegetable, autumn, girl, color, christmas, isolated, orange, beauty, white, concept, apples, colorful, cornucopia, nature, water, art, vitamin, graphic, summer, sweet, nutrition, wallpaper, pop, city, fall, business, reflection, shape, pattern,

Of these results I feel only maybe ten are relevant to the image I had in my head. If I were to use Yuri's tool I could select a handful of images that were similar to mine and then easily select the images I want to use and have them all compiled in a comma separated list.

Hope this helps.

cheers travis,
i'm probably better off just buying a small TV, as i know liveview works . the salesman demo it to me on an HDTV . looks fantastic, but i really only need it so i don't need to squint at the LCD on the camera

I have done that too so clients can see shots as im taking them, works great.

67
Looks cool, but I think I will stick with my $3 usb extension cord.

how does that work, travismanley? i like to tether my 14MP camera which has live view , as well as something that is screen shot (don't remember what they call it. it freeze the shoot, and if you like it, you can save it to RAW or JPG).
live view is great but i don't like having to zoom in to check, so getting it onto my monitor for preview would be fantastic and faster at work. i don't have a tv ,  so it has to go through either my laptop or desktop. any help will be appreciated.

Im not sure if it would work with live view. I use a usb extension cord attached to the usb cord provided with my Canon 5d and use the remote capture software that comes with the camera. I then check photos in Adobe Bridge as I shoot.

I think Nikon users have to buy remote capture software.

Off Topic / Re: First Feature Film Shot on DSLR

Why would they use Nikon lenses on a Canon body?
this was discussed in another thread. In a nutshell because Canon doesn't allow aperture control in video; and autofocus is virtually not there - so any lens with manual aperture ring would do the work; and often Nikon is chosen.

Thanks for the info. Good to know.

yeah, there's been a number of stop motion films shot with DSLRs

Corpse Bride and that new 3D one Coraline

Maybe they meant the first live action feature film.

...Keywords map to Veer's Controlled Vocabulary...

Did he actually say the CV word???  :o

How does Controlled Vocabulary work?

74
I really hate getting jerked around by these sites. I emailed Snapvillage right after they announced that they were moving to Veer saying I did not want to waste anymore time than I had already uploading five photos at a time if they were not going to be moved to Veer and they assured me I had nothing to worry about, then I get this email saying my images will not be moved to Veer!  >:(

75

Not too happy about this. I have spent lots of time uploading five photos at a time to Snapvillage. Its going to suck if my photos are not transferred over, even more so because I have been getting regular sales at Snapvillage.

Travis, if you are getting sales at SV then I doubt you are one of the ones they will be letting go of. I imagine they will be cutting accounts that are inactive or else have low quality images that don't sell.  Seems logical, anyway...

Good point Lisa, I hope your right.

Hi Travis
Hi Lisa

Lisa is correct - while we are primarily looking at portfolios and reviewing content for suitability for a higher aesthetic and technical standard - we are also considering what has and hasn't sold, and account activity/inactivity.

- Brian

I just got an email saying my content will not be moved to Veer. Im so pissed. I cant tell you how many hours I spent uploading 5 images at a time waiting for them to get ftp. I was also getting regular sales. Whats the deal?
