The problem is that the current state of the art in computers isn't able to figure out if keyword business is appropriate for an image. The reviewer has to click them. And if IS said "We will remove the bad keywords", everyone would spam the keywords until they had 50 of them. Then the reviewers would have to click a whole lot more. The actual removing isn't the problem, clicking is.

Put another way, iStock exclusive don't get rejections for bad/inappropriate keywords - the offending keywords are removed for them.

I think that should be natural thing to do for everybody. It should take same amount of time (human or cpu time) to remove offending keywords. They must to do it anyway to generate email. I would gladly agree to make it happen by running a script. I got a feeling that in many case it's just an excuse to reject without give valid technical reason.
This is true to some extent but think about how many people would just spam the keywords until they had 50 and let the reviewers decides which are valid. That would take a lot more time and it would take even longer for images to get accepted.

Common how big is CV, 10K words? It's probably matter of milliseconds to get 50 keywords checked against it. And as I said previously they must be doing it already cause it's hard to believe reviewer is hand picking words to paste them into email.
Why would they compare keywords to CV? They are checking them if they are valid for the image. I imagine they click on the keywords that are not appropriate and the systems generates the email based on that.

PS: You can also add keywords that aren't in CV, however they won't be translated over to other languages, so only people using the language you use for keywords, will be able to find your pictures on those keywords.

If I put together a upload process for IS for non-exclusives I get this (from two active topics):
- send only a few images you produce (because of the upload limits)
- downsize to 2mp to avoid artifacting
- keyword minimally to avoid rejection for keywords

No wonder exclusives are doing that well there!

I contacted them via Contact us link but only got a response that it is a different department that does reviewing. I then asked if they could give me a contact of the reviewing department and they said they couldn't. I stopped at that point. If buyers really want my images they can find them on other sites.

You can still upload more in 2 days at DT than at IS in a week.

What I wanted to say: If you're gonna use a 32 bit photoshop/windows then SSD could come in handy for a scratch drive (because you can only use 2 or 3 gigs of ram). For a 64 bit setup with 8gigs of ram, I don't see much use of it being a scratch drive (how many 7 gig files do you have on your HDD? How much ram do you have now and how big is your scratch drive?). You would benefit more if you had it for your C - system/programs drive (OS/programs start/run much faster) or if you would temporarily save your files on the drive while you edited them(faster opening/saving files).

Yeah for accessing the drive an SSD is faster but when running Photoshop, once the program is open I won't be vising the C drive anymore so a fast SSD won't help me, only Ram and a fast scratch disk will.
Scratch disk = SSD. You only need a scratch disk if you don't have enough ram, but I think that with 8 gigs that isn't a problem (I worked on 30k*20k res files with multiple layers and never ran out of RAM). You can check this if you use PS for a while and then check the efficiency in the status bar or just open the task manager to see how much ram you use. Not sure which version of PS you have, but 32 bit PS can only use 2 gigs of ram, well 3 gigs with the workaround I think. Not sure if you have any plugins that don't work with 64 bit PS.

You constantly access drives - every time you open/save an image. Also when developing raw images, batch processing a folder of images the speed difference is quite big.

And for graphics card: I'd also say cheap. I bought Nvidia Geforce 9600GT. For now not enough programs are able to use the power of the GPU (PS only has some fancy scrolling and stuff like that, in AE it helps previewing stuff but for actual calculations you still need CPU). Just check that it has all the inputs/outputs you need.

PS: I went with i7 860 because the motherboards are cheaper for 1156 socket and the speed difference is almost none.

Ram: lots, as much as you can, if you save on the GPU go for more ram (12mb or 16mb). The biggest bottleneck for a PC is the available ram.

I'd say disk speed is ever more critical than ram. I don't remember when was the last time I used all of my 12GB ram. Check this comparison of SSD and a (fast) normal drive:

I also can't upload using the FTP, some files upload normally while others get interrupted in the middle.

Adobe Stock / Re: Best sellers
« on: March 14, 2010, 15:59 »
I think that out of the pool of images with about one to four downloads that qualify for the lower ranks of "best-sellers" on a specific day, the images that appear in that category are chosen at random. Also, you have to take into account that the best-sellers are counted seperately for each national site. So if one of your images sold four times on one day - say once in the US, three times in Turkey, and once in Italy - you might find it in the "best-seller" section on Fotolia Turkey but probably not on Fotolia US.
Ahh, didn't know that. Thanks for the info.

Maybe dld/views?
Probably something like that also. I think that if an image gets a download immediately after it is accepted it can get into that list.

Looks like they terminated the forums with the new design (or I'm just unable to find them).

And who clicks on banner ads, really?
I think you'd be surprised. Just look at how many people click google ads.

Maybe these images are best sellers today :-)
Under what criteria? It surely ain't downloads, since my picture would be there if that was the case.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Shorter review times
« on: March 12, 2010, 18:19 »
Photos get reviewed faster, however, this is not true for vectors. Have some pending from last weekend which won't be reviewed for quite a while (at least judging from the file numbers). Usually it was the other way around, what happened?

Adobe Stock / Best sellers
« on: March 12, 2010, 17:26 »
One of my images was purchased quite a few times today so I went to check if it qualified for the best sellers section under the today tab. Didn't find it so I went and checked a few images there. Many of those only had 1, 2, 3, 4 downloads. I always though that the number of downloads count, but it looks like it isn't so. Anyone knows the formula?

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Witholding taxes
« on: March 11, 2010, 17:29 »
What I really don't understand is why the withhold taxes on all sales and not just US based ones. This is how SS does it.

It's only on US sales. Only a fraction of my sales is taxed.
You submitted the form right? I didn't and all my sales get taxed. On SS I also didn't submit the forms and only US sales get taxed.

The most "advanced" site out there doesn't have ftp uploads (even deepmeta can't handle vectors). Also ITPC from vectors doesn't load from me. If you add disambiguation (which is good for buyers though) it becomes the most annoying site to upload to. At least sales are worth it :D

I deleted all images and requested payment about two weeks ago.  Still nothing in my PP account and things look the same at StockXpert - i.e. I show funds in account there with no images etc.

Anyone get their final payout from them yet?

fred

Yes, I received my final payment about 3-4 days after they closed.
I also got it a few days after.

I'm with Geo, I will miss StockXpert a lot, it was as excellent site for me, and the one with the most fair (fairer?) rules.

Me too. Today is a sad day.

I am based in England, but didn't even know I had an option other than the US site when I signed up!
Same here.

I've been waiting for about 2 and a half months now. I've had enough, I'll probably start removing my images this week and after that I'll do the final payment request.

IS only accounts for about 25% for me so it's a no-brainer.
