I just received my email congratulating me and welcoming me to IStock. My question, is this a joke??? Look at the limit.......... :(

"Welcome to iStockphoto.com, the designer's dirty little secret. Congratulations, the iStockphoto administrators have determined that your images are commercially and technically ready for iStockphoto.com. Please begin uploading at your convenience. There is currently a limit of 20 uploads per 168 hour period"

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Sensor cleaning and scotch tape
« on: September 26, 2006, 22:24 »
Striker - I think he meant they charge 55 per year (ie you pay up front but get upto 4 cleans.

Similar topic - I saw somewhere that recommended putting double sided tape inside your lens cap so that it grabs the dust when you have your lens cap on (in theory but I think I would have issues getting the lens cap back out of my pocket once I have finished using my camera.

Yep! $55 for 4 cleanings total in the year. NOT 55- each

Alamy.com / Re: how effective is uprezing?
« on: September 26, 2006, 08:30 »
I'm about to begin submitting to Alamy.  I have an EOS 10D, which is 6.3 megapixel and produces tiffs about 15 megabytes in size.  Alamy requires 48 megabytes.  I have found that I need to interpolate to roughly 5000 by 3300 pixels.

Will this pass QC at Alamy?  What uprezing routine do you use--bicubic, multistage bicubic, or Qimage (or something similar)?

Do interpolated photos sell well?

TLR Image Resizer Action for Photoshop is your friend http://www.thelightsrightstudio.com/photoshop-tools.htm and best of all, it's free. It is a Godsend....I live by it!

OMG....chills went up my spine when I saw the title of this thread. Sensors are DELICATE things...using tape.....is a HUGE no-no. I actually need to clean my sensor on my cam and I am a wimp at doing it. My local cam shop said they do it professionally for 55-/yr which entitles me to 4 cleanings. I think I trust them more than myself lol

General Stock Discussion / Re: Makes you think....

"Why will Photographers Direct not represent photographers who have images on micropayment sites?

Because they are the antithesis of Fair Trade Photography. Micropayment sites (which sell Royalty Free images for 1 to 3 dollars) take advantage of the naivety of amateur photographers.

The only people who benefit from these sites are:

   1. The site owners, because they make money from the images and do not care about the damage they are doing to professional photographers' livelihoods.
   2. The buyers, who cannot believe their luck at being able to get images for a few dollars, and being able to use them as often as they like, for as long as they like, wherever they like. "

Isn't this actually illegal under Anti-Trust laws? Hmmm something here sounds a bit like discrimination to me....

Because you will always deal direct with clients when selling images through Photographers Direct, we are non-exclusive. This means we have no restrictions on photographers selling the same images through other agencies. The only exceptions are micropayment sites such as istockphoto, canstockphoto, shutterstock, dreamstime, bigstockphoto, crestock - we cannot represent photographers who market their images on these sites.

This is what REALLY got me thinkin about it.....

New Sites - General / Re: Houser Stock Photos
« on: September 18, 2006, 06:10 »
It sounds a lot like starvedartists.com...they basically provide you with a place to show your work, and they handle the money transaction...you do everything else, like set the price, sell prints or stock, and you are responsible for sending prints directly.  Pretty much they set you up with a store front, and handle money (for a percentage).

Starved Artist's looks like a nice idea but I don't like the fact that they charge you to join...I already sell my prints through deviantARt and actually do really well over there with it. Makes me wonder though how many other sites are out there like this...I also have been thinking about joining Lulu.com http://www.lulu.com/  and publishing a book on there and a calendar to see how that goes. Anyways, if you know of any more sites like starvedartists.com holler at me :)

New Sites - General / Houser Stock Photos
« on: September 17, 2006, 17:16 »
Just happened upon this while browsing Flickr http://flickr.com/groups/houserstockphoto/
Looks like a new up and coming company and so far I really liek what they are saying.

"So that's when I came up with the idea for Houser Stock Photo - your photos, your prices, your customers. Oh yeah... one more important feature - YOUR money. Rather than pay you pennies on the dollar for each photo sold, you keep up to 80% of the price, which once again... YOU set. And if you're not just interested in selling stock photography, but also prints? I've got that covered too, with direct shipping to the buyer. Want to throw a mat around the print? Yep - you've guessed it. I've got that covered too."

iStockPhoto.com / Re: No uploading for four days
« on: September 17, 2006, 12:06 »
Hmmm well I am new here and also new to IStock, they seriously have some issues IMO. I waited nearly a month!!! to have my initial sub looked at and then when they did, I got "One accepted, please submit 2 others for consideration as these 2 didn't pass"...that has gone on now no less than 5 times. I don't know what they are on as the images I submitted I actually sell prints of at 30x40 so quality isn't an issue. They were also accepted at Shutterstock and Fotolia...odd. So Merry-go-Round it be with Istock, and honestly I am about bored with it. I just also sent my CD off to Alamy so we shall see. I don't know what they will acheive with taking 4 days off unless it's for trying to catch up, but the problem is that it will be backlogged all over again....oh well...spose I shall try again one last time before sayin no more to em.
