General Photography Discussion / Re: Bidding for photography job

You know it also depends on who is footing the bill .. I always consider who the client is and what their budget might be. I have made $70 an hour and I have been paid $2500 an hour .. Bigger client = Bigger Budget

We have also had a few issues with microstock images ending up on interstate billboards .. and oddly enough one model was very angry about this .. another model was used in an ad for a local strip club, which got resolved but still was not pleasant .. I'm not sure what the odds are of you shooting a local model and the photo being purchased through microstock by a local company and advertised in the models area ... we are in the Kansas City area and often see our microstock work in local media .. If something bad happens .. even when it gets resolved .. I would just feel better knowing it was a stranger than a close personal friend or family member.

$31,072 .. combined from all micro downloads and requests that came from direct contact through the micro sites.

I have had to fill them out for every agency in the Big 6 and a couple others. Some of the agencies just don't bother mentioning it until you have went over the payout level that requires you to pay taxes on it.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is a photo of a map legal?
« on: January 25, 2009, 21:30 »
Yes legally a map is copyrighted. There might be some public domain maps available somewhere but chances are most people are going to grab the map out of their car or pick up a major publishers map from a gas station .. you can find tons of them on microstock .. but it is still illegal.

I don't approach them in public either .. not saying I wouldn't do it .. I just like to evaluate a models portfolio and potential abilities before contacting them ... I prefer working with models who have a clue what they are doing LOL

When it comes down to it I really dont care what I'm shooting .. I'm just happy that I get to make a living behind a camera.

I on the other hand do not use friends and family for stock .. I strictly use models that I have found through sites like Myspace, ModelMayhem and those who contact me directly through my studio.
