Hows that free health in the UK working?
Can't speak for the whole of the UK as I don't know, but here in Scotland it's fine, for now. All prescription medicines are free for everyone. (I don't think that's the case in England)
I should have said that most Scots pay an extra 1% income tax compared to England. Seems to be worth it, so far.

NHS seems very popular. https://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2018/03/07/591128836/u-k-hospitals-are-overburdened-but-the-british-love-their-universal-health-care I read last year that emergency was often to busy because of the number of people who came in with hangovers in the morning. Waiting time for surgery was long. Life expectancy is longer in Great Britain than the US. Does that have to do with guns and drugs or health care.

I can't see that it's worth wasting any energy worrying about that bloke who will sink or swim according to the market. And I've seen much worse.

Though I don't care a fig about SS, I do find it worrying that 'owenr1 osemarie' is still rapidly uploading stolen images with false captions.

A recent example:
"Tokyo/JAPAN- 06/25/2019 Tokyo 2020, Olympic site construction in process"
https://www.shutterstock.com/es/image-photo/tokyojapan-06252019-tokyo-2020-olympic-site-1458093296?src=44wCe6aCMzHL4z_jRXBESg-1-80

Seems to be lifted from Getty:
"MONTREAL, QC - NOVEMBER 18: An aerial view of Olympic Stadium and the Biodome and Saputo Stadium and Olympic Park and Olympic Village are seen from above on November 18, 2012 in Montreal, Quebec. (Photo by Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images)"
https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/an-aerial-view-of-olympic-stadium-and-the-biodome-and-news-photo/156799098

I've reported it to Getty, but as I'm not the original author, it'll be informative to see if they'll take any action. Except that we'll never know.

1 Do you think owenr is a coded indication that he's not the owner?
(More likely it's a typo for Rosemarie Owen)

Ditto to all that. Thief is still there one more day to win the bet. I don't know why jonbull has a hard on for attacking Joe?

Horrible month. I had to cancel my "affordable" health care coverage (bronze @$400 a month).

The economy is going so well but this year has been just awful for me. I never thought I would have to cancel my health insurance.

I hope you did the math on the tax penalty that would be applied to you for not having insurance and see what the difference is. (I'm assuming you are American)

"The federal tax penalty for not being enrolled in health insurance will be eliminated in 2019 because of recent changes made by the Trump Administration"

It's not fair to force someone to pay for unaffordable health insurance if they really cannot pay it. I honesty can't pay the $400 a month anymore (with 5K deductible). Even if I cancel my cable and put my student loans in deferment it STILL would not cover the premium. Sorry for the off topic rant... It is upsetting so I get fired up.

I didn't know about that penality I have coverage from work. $400 is not affordable. We really need a better plan, but hospitals bill insurance companys over 200% more then the government pays. Hows that free health in the UK working? Why do people from Canada come to the US for care and pay their own.

I WISH I could turn my mountain of old negs into usable material.

Someday someone (like Nividia) may invent an AI scanner that will render crummy negatives and old 4x6 prints into full frame glory.  Might take another 10 or 20 years.  But I think it will happen.  It's certainly within the realm of possibility.

Ditto to that. Thousands of old slides.

« on: July 08, 2019, 14:43 »
no sales since 8 days... Usually, I have sales every day ... a trend or it's just me?

Not just you.

133
Unless something has changed with Adobe, you cant add/remove keywords after an image has been posted.

Not true that's IS. You can only edit one photo at a time on AS.

Apparently they can and warned us photo requirements

Shutterstock.com / Re: problem with "new" rejections
« on: June 19, 2019, 15:51 »
Hi:

I have a problem with SS. Most of my pictures were accepted with no problem. I have a 1200 port and they used to reject 1/50.

But now, with the same type of pictures, I have a lot more rejections, sometimes 6/10. I din't change anything and they use to reject my landscapes for "out of focus".

Anyone with the same problem?

Maybe they should have rejected more of the 1200.

Shutterstock.com / Re: 5 word minimum
« on: June 19, 2019, 15:50 »
shutterstock now requires 5 word minimum for all descriptions?

dumb idea

You can't come up with 5 words to describe your photos. Don't you want them found, SS uses the description for search, and that's what Google uses to find matches. SS is trying to make your pictures found and you are against that?

I think the OP needs to write to SS and get their answer. But we're just guessing, until SS is contacted and gives a specific answer.

That would be way too adult, pragmatic, and logical.

Explained clearly for anybody who can read, the exclusive was so they could distribute to Adobe, Vimeostock and maybe others without duplication from our own accounts. I went exclusive because of this added exposure.

Adobe Stock / Re: Daily earnings reports are all messed up
« on: April 25, 2019, 21:01 »
Has anyone experienced a discrepancy in term of earning of a particular download too? For instance, a download shown in the microstockr app is usd 0.69 cents but the earning report shown in email is usd 1.43. It happened quite often in my adobe account of late.

Who should you trust? An app or the adobe site.

I really didn't expect this place to be such a hostile environment, there's some toxic people here but i'm glad everyone isn't like this. Thank you to the 1 genuine response iv'e had from this forum.

We might seem hostile because you are asking personal questions about private information that asks business details of what makes income and a living for some. You didn't identify yourself properly to start. People are going to be suspicious and resent prying questions. Don't call us toxic or blame us for your poor introduction and lack of transparency.

Adobe Stock / Re: Change to sales notification email
« on: March 30, 2019, 11:22 »
Disappointed.  I do not want to see my best sellers.  I want to see what is selling.  I have been getting one email with image of one photo only though sold more which I can tell through total $$ figure.  I like to see what particular images are selling.
I liked getting indovidual emails.  Sure would be nice to get that option back even if it is opt in.

Daily digest of what sold, not top seller of the day.

very simple , doable site since the beginning. I think the fat Lady is singing. shame.

Are they one of your 9 sites or just an observation? I closed 123RF long ago.

One day he says one number, the next another, he just makes up things and can't remember or doesn't care. Last month he said he was down to 5 or 6, last week was 8. Don't wait for an answer, he's not going to get pinned down to one number if he can keep changing what he makes up.

I just figured this up the other day for iStock. RPD at 40%:
2008 1.85
2009 2.44
2018 3.59

40% of what for what? You know what they charge? How's your total income on IS since 2008?

My RPD Alamy is $50 only 2 sell a year, the number RPD means nothing.

Volume was much higher before 2012. Competition up, sales down, income down. But I don't feed the parasites or the race to the bottom, might be different for desperate people who put their work anywhere that will take it, probably worse for them. If you feed the bottom agencies you are stealing from your own earnings, forcing prices down.

The OP's question was specifically about RPD.

My mistake assuming he wanted both.

Using Jo Ann's post, No leverage then No union.

Somehow leaving the agency that makes me the most money SS would have no effect on anything except make me lave Microstock, as there would be no income from the rest worth working for. Final suicide is another good term for what some are saying they want. I like getting those outside of the forums to join, the big contributors is the first step, and somebody get to the other language forums.

Pond5 / Re: Letter to pond5 and quick Poll for contributors
« on: March 28, 2019, 13:20 »
One part if the problem is that we've always been reactive, we struggle against companies that cut commissions but do nothing against the ones that had low commissions to begin with. We should do a massive ask for fair commissions from companies like SS, istock, getty. Petitions, multiple mails, even roping in fair trade government/international bodies to help. That'll also help players like Pond5 maintain royalties. Maybe we can take their help in ensuring that the race to the bottom does not happen

The only solution is to unionize. As much as many of us would resist, a union where we all collectively agree to work together...refusing to submit to agencies that pay less. Agreeing collectively to set certain price policies and standards.

It's headed in that direction. It's just a matter of time. Just as it has formed in the past when people asked: You want to pay me how much for picking your cotton? You're going to pay me how much for working in your sweat shop? A union is the only answer. It's now just a matter of someone getting it started.

You aren't working for the company, you aren't picking their products, you are working for yourself. If you want to boycott or stop uploading, you only hurt yourself. There are another 10,000 artists who will fill your spot. And for a petition what will that do, hurt their feelings? To form a union you need something to hold that the company needs or wants. Labor for example. What does anybody with 10,000 pictures have to hold against the agency with 250 million images? If you can find that, you can start a union. If not, you're just imagining that the agencies would listen. No power, no union.

148
Not a good month here..

Not here either. I see the poll here SS has been dropping but is higher then IS exclusive now. Are more leaving or did the Exclusive income drop?

I suspect very few exclusives (probably fewer than 5) report now, and I'm pretty much a bottom feeder these days (since subs, PA etc.)

Good thought maybe Leaf can tell us.
I think exclusive numbers only count if that's the only entry.  If you have RM at Alamy or video anywhere else your earnings get reported as nonexclusive.

That's right.  It is only exclusive for people who only vote for iStock.  it's not a perfect system, I know... and yes - there are probably very very few people who vote as an exclusive.

Could you add iStock exclusive as one agency and make better results? Or would that drop down to the low earners because not enough votes.

149
Great news. Googles,Yahoos, Microsofts have destroyed the livelihoods of thousands just stealing content without any shame. Those times are over at least in the European Union. Now these leechers can run to countries where copyright is not enforced. But here it is over.

I don't think this applies to search and find. How do you find anything on the Internet without using a search, I'd like to know?

150
l have no idea why anyone would need this shot but they do, over and over . . . inside of a circus tent

I wouldn't call it a bad picture :)

I'd agree, many aren't bad pictures but they are not usual Micro pictures.
