I agree, exclusivity is key. It is the only way that agencies will compete and pay us more for content. It has to be done in such a way that there is a clear advantage for going exclusive. And then there is the question of image vs. artist exclusivity.

I wonder what would have happened if instead of royalty cuts to boost revenue, SS raised their prices? This is so contrary to the ingrained and pervasive "race to the bottom" that all agencies are currently doing. Maybe, just maybe it would have worked. They would make more money and contributors would make more money. Contributors would be motivated to produce more and better content. Would they be so bold as to even try? Sure, the royalty cuts boost revenue, but as we all know, long term that is a dead end. SS, be bold!

On SS message board, they are saying that the changes will go live this afternoon New York time.

They haven't updated the "Earnings Breakdown" page either.

I wonder if this new arrangement will put SS into a firm second place in the Microstock poll results?

So at what point does Microstock collapse...when will income become so low that anyone generating quality saleable imagery cannot justify the costs to produce such imagery anymore and serious newcomers will be few and farther between?...existing libraries will age out?....maybe it will coincide with computer generated imagery becoming so good that there will be less of a need for stock photography? And what of the "Premium" collections...how will they be impacted?

Seems like we can't trust Shutterstock anymore.. Adobe still has fair commissions
Agreed here. Also, not just illustrative editorial but open up to editorial with people for both stills and video.

So why would Corona impact be agency specific?

Here is a sad story in one picture
That seems unusual, what do you think caused such a precipitous drop?

Tough crowd!
How about if the image was used in some sort of advertising usage where there was text over the blurred foreground. Seems it would work quite well for that. Think about in image of a model holding a blank sign. Would you criticize that for having a blank area in the image? This is stock.

not good, but I haven't seen that in the other agencies

Just checking to see if anyone else had this happen. I had a payment from Pond5 today. However the amount I can withdraw is exactly $45 less than the amount sent.
Note me, had payout from POND5 everything seems normal.

I recently had a notice about my 2019 code on my Adobe page, but it's disappeared. I gifted the 2018 code to a friend, but she only just redeemed it. Did it expire and have I lost a year somewhere?
Yes, I noticed mine has disappeared as well??? Any word on this?

Theres the problem. A: theres no way anyone can make 300 -good- and -useful- videos a day. Its just spamming the system. To the detriment of all.
100% this. The limit forces people to be selective in what they shoot and only upload their best.
Stops everyone's work being swamped by a sea of same-ey rubbish from the same contributors, keeps the collection fresh and makes it possible to survive as a contributor. Win win.
Shame SS started pushing collection size as a metric at every shareholder meeting and announcement backing themselves into a corner and us off a cliff.
Top contributors have nearly 1 million files for each portfolio. It is not one two or three, there are many such ports on SS. Such numbers are not possible in one life-time without team. This is the market of volume. When you have a team with you, quality control is your key function to sustain your unique position. My policy is, not more than two variation of same shot to submit to agencies. It has to be operated like any other business.
...and what does it cost to pay a full team?

I like Adobe a lot, but I would sure like to see them open up to:
- editorial stills beyond "illustrative" (in other words editorial with people) - full editorial video (illustrative as well as editorial with people)

My favorite rejections are the arbitrary "invalid model release" where they don't tell you what is "invalid" about the release...they're just too busy to be helpful I guess.

Remember, a large percentage of those 300 million plus images are things that don't have much sales potential.
But unless something has changed drastically for some explicable reason, a large percentage of those 160 million images, or those 80 million images (so on and so forth) didn't have much sales potential either... i.e. 160 to 320 is still double, whichever way you look at it.
...but which is the more important factor in revenue decline...the number of images uploaded, or the revenue per sale...something tells me it's the latter. In the "good old days" we weren't getting $0.38 per download
How much are you getting now? What's the highest you got before? I only sell video. I'm guessing the download prices haven't changed as drastically as the number of images in the last 14 years? I would have thought the number of images was much more of a factor than the revenue per sale.
But yeah, 2008 for me. Only started taking it seriously in 2014, and just done stock since 2016.
Mostly stills here....used to be an iS exclusive in the "good old days".....way way more than $0.38 per download

... I know and can quote the production houses which are doing it full time and have staff of 12 to 20 people to manage this as business...
In a scenario like this, it seems paying a salary to "12 to 20" people would be fairly costly?

I generally get the most video sales/income from SS, so there's no way it makes sense to cut them off.
