Wow!...they are actually restricting your upload rate?

Unless a miracle happens SS will finally be at number two position instead of one.

January sales qty is as usual however revenue has dropped 50% and is the lowest now since 2014 due to the lack of ODD's & SOD's

Yes....whole lot of 38-cent'rs!...really hurts $$$!!....does that hurt SS revenues as well? (lack of SOD's)

I used bridge to embed meta-data in a video file. Both Adobestock and POND5 correctly interpreted the meta-data (descriptions and keywords). However, Shutterstock seemed to ignore the embedded meta-data. Anyone happen to know why?...am I doing something wrong?
I used Davinci Resolve to generate the file. This is on a PC platform.

 Thanks!

General Stock Discussion / Re: Checking in - Adobe Stock Video

1. Select video thumbnails.
2. Upload editorial.

Both are on my list and I think you'll get both of them.

Of the two, I think editorial is much more impactful to contributors and customers.

Thanks for the feedback.

Dennis

That's great to hear regarding editorial, but will it be restricted to "no people" like the stills (hopefully that will open up to include people as well)?

I had some questions from the readers of my blog about what exactly an illustrative editorial image is. I've just tried to explain that in a new post and outlined how successful the first two months of my experience with this new usage type has been with Adobe Stock:

https://www.backyardsilver.com/2019/12/adobe-illustrative-editorial-stock-images/

Hope it is helpful for those interested in submitting such shots to Adobe.

Steve

How do you find your editorial sales on Adobestock vs. Shutterstock?

I use my LLC name at FAA.  Why use a company name?  Dogmatic preference for cyber privacy and loathing of personal self promotion... are my reasons.

So did you set it up as a "gallery account"? Do they produce your 1099s to your "company name" or to your personal name?

Thanks

At what point did you give them your EIN as that is not on the very simple application page (they just ask for name and company name)?

I have a paid account.  The 1099 goes to the LLC and its EIN number... if they send one.  Earnings are way less than 600.

Under tax information (US resident) there is an option for SS# or EIN#.  I looked back at last years tax records... I did not receive a 1099.  No surprise.  Income was well below $600-

I guess if you are under a company name, they would then issue the 1099 to the company name and EIN you entered.

Thanks for your help!!

I left iStock almost 3 years ago. Their history is like the boiling frog experiment unfolding in real life. I have no sympathy for those who accept such a despicable treatment.
So, I get 30% from iS. I understand that's about the same as the average at SS. I don't know about Adobe, can anyone enlighten me?
Getty is a bunch of foetid dingoes' kidneys, but the rest aren't much better; and I probably get a higher average rpd than most on SS and Adobe also. That isn't saying much, my sales are way down and my rpd way, waaaaaay down from a few years back, but I don't see that I'd do better elsewhere.

If you are saying you are exclusive on iS and get 30%. The difference is, you would be getting revenue from 3 or more agencies vs. 1. You'd have to do the math.

410
You wonder how far exclusive contributors can be pushed before they just walk away from exclusivity in significant numbers.

411
Wow, so in a time when downloads per contributor have in general been trending down....they are increasing targets?!

Does anyone have any experience with joining FineArtAmerica using a business or corporate name vs. signing up as an individual?

It would be interesting to know the actual stats on card failures for the different card types.

Apparently the rate of video content growth is outstripping the "increasing importance of video"

Have you contacted Adobe?

Don't most customers just look for the image they want via searches? Do they really care about who created the photo?....why would they?

Of course buyers want cheap, unlimited and simple over expensive, limited and complex.

Maybe they should have come up with a simplified RM model. On my website RM is nearly as simple as RF but is single use.

Of all of the subscription models across movies, music, etc RF photos is the only one I can think of where it's nearly unlimited usage even after your subscription ends.

Plus even higher cost RF seems to be dying due to micro and subscription which shouldnt be a surprise to anyone.

Although I don't doubt it, what is your evidence for higher cost RF dying?

Personal experience and I've also seen other contributors commenting about it.  I used to get large royalties from the several hundred dollar RF sales. Over time these have been replaced with a few cents from their subscription model. I havent had a large sale in a long time.  Why would anyone spend $500 on an image that they can get either through a subscription model or find a similar "good enough" image on a micro site.

I keep wondering where the bottom is to where supply starts dropping and these sites are forced to reverse the downward trend on contributors. Given the record profits of the sites and the massive amount of new contributors who are okay earning peanuts, seems to be a long long way off. Or maybe there is no bottom and stock photography is replaced by something else like AI to where we're no longer needed.

You make valid points, and too a large degree, let's face it, in many cases you can find low cost RF that is as good as premium high priced RF content. I guess the high price collections save users time in not having to wade through zillions of images. Of course some business person will come up with a solution that does that for the user....much like hotel aggregation sites....a gatekeeper of some sort that filters out non-"premium quality" images so the buyer can buy quality imagery at a lower price.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe Stock Creative Cloud Bonus Program

Thanks!, that explains everything! Think I will wait till my current code is almost expired, about a year from now. I assume that the start of the 12 month period (before expiration) is the date I received the email.

I received an email for the Creative Cloud Photography bonus saying it is good for 12 months (Thank you!!). My email doesn't actually have a code, it has a "redeem now" button. I assume this is normal?
(I won't click on the button yet, because I don't need to use the code yet...already subscribed this year).

Finally upgraded from my old lightroom 6 to  Lightroom Classic. It created a new catalog file which is about half the size?
Anyone know why the catalog file is so much smaller?

General - Stock Video / MP4 vs. MOV
« on: October 27, 2019, 14:00 »
Any opinion on whether it is better to use .MP4 or. MOV as a video file container format?

Everything I found online says they are about the same. MOV was developed by Apple way back and MP4 was developed later as a more general standard.

I suspect the quality of the reviews reflects what reviewers are being payed for their efforts.
