I'm too new to compete with you folks in sales.  A funny thing though.  'bout two weeks ago I posted to Shutterstock a series of 3 xrays of my knee.  Guess I have sexy bones. They've sold 20 times already!! Forget about the landscape, the office meeting or the sliced vegetable shots.... dig out your old xrays, take a pic of them and get'em posted.   Ha ha ha ha ha ha...

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Be careful out there.
« on: October 28, 2006, 20:11 »
Thanks for that tip!!  I am still leery about buying stuff online, not that I'm techno-phobic, I just have a hard time putting access to my credit or cash out there.  However, I'm just leery and cautious, I do buy online, not just anywhere/everywhere.
This may sound odd, but I have been buying a considerable amount of my photographic needs at Amazon.com.  I just bought my wife a Canon A620 there. I've purchased remotes, lenses, studio lights... My daughter just bought her new Rebel XT on Amazon.   It is not always the absolute lowest price on the web. But I've always been happy with the low amounts I pay and so far, everything has been perfect when I got it.  I also get what I order in far less than the quoted ship time.  Usually 2 or 3 days after the order.
I'm sure some people have had bad experiences there, I've never seen any of  the outfits with a 100% rating.    But for me for now,  I'll probably buy there again.

It's tuff finding your way into the application area... Hope this works for you.
Go to  gettyimages.com
.. at the bottom of that screen click on   'about us'
.. at the bottom of that screen click on   ' media'
.. at the bottom of that screen click on  'contributors'

that will lead you to the 'get started'  area.
There are a series of information packs to read. Once read, you would email them at the submission guidelines area requesting the specifics required.

they will mail you back the guidelines... there are a few questions to consider...  are you familiar with the workings of ad agencies and  working with models..    are you familiar with the model release legalities... are you able to work with art directors or follow their creative briefs...  are you able to finance your own shoots up front...are you confident in your own creative ability to produce highly saleable content....     do you have the willingness to go on assignment...  etc.

My impression is that they weren't especially interested in using all your current photo's  { although I also felt that they would take them } but rather, they are more interested with what you can now produce for them. Obviously, all of those photos in their inventory can't be,  'currently produced',  they must be from the photographer's past inventory. Some of the material you will read can be kind of vague.
They will ask for 15  low rez (72 dpi) examples of your best work. That can be submitted via email.

What I didn't notice anywhere was a minimum size requirement of the files. For example,  when I applied to Jupiter, they say right up front that you must be shooting with a camera producing a minimum 12 megapixels. I'm not at this time.  As for uprezing... I have no clue.  Getty said nothing of uprezed either. Yet Alamy requires you to uprez to 42 meg....  if  I'm understanding the Alamy requirement incorrectly, someone PLEASE, straigthen me out.

I answered the questions and sent in my 15 low rez and they acknowledged it all saying thanks,  and don't expect an answer for at least a month.

I hope that's of value to you, Bateleur.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia - Instant Reviews
« on: October 28, 2006, 16:03 »
same here,  less than 24 hour turn around on the review. However, even though I'm enjoying 80% and better everywhere else,  I'm around 30% acceptance with FT.

I applied to Getty a few weeks ago and my work is currently under review. I'm told by them that they will notify me one way or another. I am keeping my hopes humble.

You folks don't know how much we newbies appreciate this kind of info. Least I do, VERY much. Saves me a lot of time and hassle. Sorry you guys had to do it the hard way but rest assured it is of great value to others. It wasn't a complete waste, you helped us.  I for one, thank you for that effort!! Hope I can do the same down the road for others.  Thanks again,  tgt.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime rejections
« on: October 26, 2006, 16:42 »
41% of my last batch to DT rejected for the same reason as well.   "This is a well-covered subject... blah blah blah... "   That's a change from my usual rejection, "too many on site now..."   Oh well, it's their site.  The other guys didn't feel that way, and some of those rejected sell there no problem.  If i can't sell it on DT, I'll sell it with the competition. No problemo.
At least they are equal opportunity rejectors. Seems quite a few are getting the 'pink slip'.

« on: October 25, 2006, 16:10 »
Well I spoke a day too soon. I got my last batched finally reviewed by LO and I was humbled. Popped my inflated bubble!  Roughly a little less than a third were rejected. Interestingly, I got a detailed comment on each one, many 'personalized' by mentioning the subject in the shot and what was considered wrong with it. I can't say that I agreed with all the comments, but, if the  Bryan that sent the mail as the reviewer, is the same Bryan above, I understand where his artistic eye would see the images in the manner that he did. None-the-less, some were good sellers for me elsewhere. Oh well, what's that old saying,  "The boss isn't always right, but he's always the boss".  It's their site and their call what they want on it.
I think I'll keep loading for a while longer and see what develops. In this last batch were pix that do well for me... let's see if they do anything here. I'm a small portfolio compared to you vets and I need to spend more time uploading, building my base.

I'm still hanging,  this week I hit a month with stuff waiting for review. I only have 74 in the box, not like it's a few hundred...wish they'd get going, pull 'em out and look at 'em.    I'd like to put up more, but...  I'm getting tired of looking at the piggy bank with the number 1  in it.  And I know that's not because I'm "Number 1"  with the pig.  lol   Can't sell 'em if the people can't see 'em!

I'm getting the impression from you folks that the only way you knew what was accepted was to go in and look?

Congrats Pixart from a fellow 'newbie' to FT!!  Keep up the good work! One thing I really like about FT is that you can see who purchased your pic. Interestingly, from the clients that I could trace thru websites  {not that there's all that many sales yet },  all but one were European or Asian outfits. The one was California, USA.
Have any of you checked out where your pix go from FT?    Or, is that just the 'newbie' in me,  having this burning need to see some of my work,  at work?  ha ha ha.

Professor...  just jumping in now...  as to your view question.  I'm relatively new to FT, 1st upload in late August.  This is my highest rejection site, higher than SS. Pix that sell well for me on DT, BS & even SS, they reject for mainly one reason,  "Aesthetic quality" which I still have no clue what that is. As for hits, low, really low. I've gone on as a customer and did searches for my pix, detail key word requests and utilizing 'newest' search...   and,  cannot find my pictures.  ????  I've gone thru entire multiple dozens of pages looking for specific shots, and never found them.
Who knows..............??? ........the hits remain low even to the point of one or zero after of a couple weeks. Yet the same pic elsewhere, high views and modest sales.  tgt ???

Whatever happened behind that whole USphotostock fiasco?  I know they're back up and running but....    Since the crash,  I've shy'd away from them, however I still have a little over a hundred pix on board. Got a gazillion hits, but the only sale was one that a friend made just so I could see if credit came my way.  It did. Sold zero else since. And these are pix that sell well on DT, BS, SS, Fotolia & Lucky,  however, zip on USPS.
dbvirago,  I recall reading on another site some time ago that you might look into the matter with the (was it Utah?) Attrny Gen???  Or am I wrong?  Did I also see you pulled out of USPS, correct??? Didn't notice your name in the photog list?
Any idea  ( from anyone) what happened,  and are any of you still loading there? Or have any of you  pulled out?  Thanks in advance for any data.   tgt

Please allow me to reactivate the thread... I got on in the beginning of August and in my short time I have gained valuable knowledge and insight here. While I have been shooting 35 mm pictures since I was 13 years old (a gazillon years ago), I am relatively new to stock photography.  Your site has helped me tremendously! I've just started to comment regularly and totally enjoy the comments and direction of the other members. Thanks for having me on the site, I appreciate your time and effort.  Thank you very much,  tgt.

« on: October 19, 2006, 07:20 »
Sorry CJ,  I can see my comment didn't answer the question....  they were just sliced and diced, I didn't   de-rez  anything.  Just trimming up to put the subject in better position.

I've uprezed old Mavica shots to 6 and they flew on BS, LO and others.  DT, no way, the shots wouldn't even upload, rejected immediately.    I've also cropped ( bad word, I know, can I use that here? )  18 and 20 meg shots down to 9's and they were accepted. Who knows?

Nothing up as of today.  All my stuff is still in the box. They must have a heck of a backlog...   or,  my pix really suck and I've been pushed to the side..   LOL

Stockmaniac,  you sure have a point with that particular picture, any one of us could clean that baby up in a matter of minutes. You called that one right on!
But it's tuff to come up with a WM that will be all things to all pix. I'm liking Lucky Oliver alot.  I'm putting a lot of hope into their outfit and its success.      Now, if they'd only review my pix.  I've got 70-80 in the box and some have been there since mid-September. Note to Bryan, "C'mon Bryan, be a pal !"

... all night last night, what a grand waste of my time.  I tried loading a large batch several times up until midnight EST.  I'd get about 2 minutes into the load and that "Proxy" error popped and crashed the site.  I too thought it might be me, tried dumping the cache, reboot and all.  Didn't matter, crashed 2x more.

Adobe Stock / Re: Strange Rejection
« on: October 18, 2006, 15:26 »
Wild!!   Just the opposite happened to me today. My limited history with Fotolia has been dismal at best [ my Canon wanted to suicide ]. Fotolia was rejecting the vast  majority of what I post. In fact, I had decided on one last shot with them last night. Figured I'd get a massive rejection and give up. Sooo last night I put up 12 images fully expecting a 99.9% or higher rejection. I just popped open my mail and had 12 emails of congratulations. I was shocked! And,  I honestly don't expect that to ever happen again. Fotolia is strange, pix I sell on DT, BS and even SS get rejected by Fotolia for... "out of focus",  even though they're clean and crisp at 100%. Hey they all have their quirks and weirdness.

yeah...  you can still access your USPS personal data and gallery... and i've noticed that my views continue to increase... but.. no downloads..
interestingly, you can also buy credits.  Funny how that part of the site still works just fine....  3-5 days, hunh?    I would think that if there were a legit problem, they'd have mailed all the photogs with some explanation or update...  as it is.............   ???? :'(

Back to add on:   I just googled  USPhotoStock under images. About 2 dozen pages came up with pix from the site. Clicking on any takes you right into the site.  I tried to buy one right up to the final click to complete the transaction. Seems you can readily buy from USPS. Has anyone tired to actually buy one of their photos?

New Sites - General / Re: Any experience with USPhotoStock.com?
« on: August 03, 2006, 16:14 »
Like the previous poster  [ dbvirago ]  I too am new to this forum and a recent USPS orphan.  I was also new to USPS.  I am usually fanatical about the old 'right click' option and am disturbed to read the comment made here about that. I sure don't know how that got past me with USPS. It is usually one of the first things I do when checking out a site.  I too am happy to find the discussion here and am extremely interested to see what develops.  It is probably safe to say that the rest of you have experience this......   all of the pix I uploaded to USPS, I've loaded onto Dreamstime and others.  Curious, I've sold on others,  but not USPS....    or am I being overly paranoid now?      Staying tuned...  ciao, TGT
