Dreamstime.com / dreamstime image levels
« on: October 31, 2012, 23:24 »
I'm not entirely sure how this works?
I have an image that sold twice on the same day, so surely after the first sale it should have been bumped up into the next level?
It started as level 1 (newer than 6 months, no sales)
after the first sale shouldn't it move into Level 2 (orange) of 1-4 sales?

i have another image that sold in this order:
level 0 older than 6 months no sales, even though it was <one month old when it sold.
then moved to level 1.
then to level 2.
then back to level 1.

it's bad enough that half of my sales are sold using 2010 subscriptions (people hold credits for 2 years? and not just a handful, half of them?) but I'm finding this levels system hard to understand.

Bigstock.com / donate your photo to the homepage, no comm?!
« on: July 28, 2012, 18:42 »
"We may select one of your images to be featured for free on the homepage. This helps showcase your portfolio. Please note that you will not earn commissions on the image that is selected during that week."

So we help promote their site and they want us to provide free imagery with the tiresome promise that "it'll be good exposure for your port"

Does anyone have any positive stories to tell out of doing this?

iStockPhoto.com / iStock keyword "disambiguation" question
« on: June 14, 2012, 01:39 »
It appears that some of my images have been messed with - do they have some kind of auto keyword fixer device that is causing more harm than good?

An image of mine, smoked salmon with poached eggs on sourdough toast contains neither salmon nor eggs in the keywords. Fairly sure i would have thought to include those :D (yes, i checked in Bridge, my list of keywords is long, and the list in iStock was slashed down to about 9 terms).

Next question: will it just keep happening automatically?

Image Sleuth / SIM Social on FB is making me steal images
« on: May 13, 2012, 03:50 »
I've been playing the SIMs on Facebook - you remember it from the 90s? I was so addicted - and now my girls play it too and it's a bit of fun for us. There are a bunch of quests to complete to move up and the one I'm currently in has instructed me to "steal images off the web for my blog". Ha! At least in a way they are acknowledging the concept that stealing images is theft, rather than "take/borrow images"... (please note it's just a game, no one is actually stealing real images in this game)

Shutterstock.com / can't log it, dumb security system
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:31 »
about 3 hours ago i tried to log in, and went through  about 10 log in screen with my security code (the one with the blurry words) being rejected.
Gave up and came back now. Have repeated the same actions at least a dozen times.
Frankly, I reckon a computer robot could beat their stupid blurry coded words quiz better than a human!!

Newbie Discussion / hello from Australia
« on: January 22, 2012, 00:30 »
Hi I'm Gillian, I'm new to the site and quite new to microstock. I've dabbled a little this past year and have a very modest portfolio, but looking at really concentrating on it this year. I guess I'm still in the honeymoon phase where a single sale gives me a buzz, and a rejection breaks my heart.

Living in Brisbane, Australia, one husband, 3 kids, 2 dogs, 12 chooks. I freelance for the media, trying to write this year in addition to photography. My flavours: Nikon, BMW, Apple, coffee over tea, chardonnay over sav blanc, shiraz over merlot, beef over chicken, beach over country and autumn. :)
