Stocksy / Re: Is it so simple to get in?
« on: August 27, 2020, 04:20 »
I tried once and was rejected. Will not try again and I don't feel the urge to be somewhere where I'm not welcome. They will simply not have my work and that's fine.
i've been rejected by Offset TWICE, I don't have that attitude. I also don't have enough content to offer them as i have 2 other premium sites to contribute to, so it's a moot point right now,  but I would still be happy to be able to submit there.

I had to double check this was 2020, I didn't realise people were taking international holidays. us Aussies aren't allowed to do this. We can't even cross the border into neighbouring states!

Glad you had a great time and your wife is such a good sport!

Whenever I trawl through those and see them selling at over 300 dollars a pop (not at Pexels/Unsplash of course), I feel hopelessly out of place in the market because I like to make my pictures look clean and right.

Life is too short to be bored or boring no matter how popular that look may be.

Shooting naturally light, bright images makes me happy. Seeking out and photographing free, unfettered birds and other wild critters in their natural habitats is a challenge that I love.

Those buyers who want drab, brown, imprisoned-wildlife photography will just have to go to Stocksy.

Sad.  :(

not all of us shoot like that. I too shoot light, bright and happy!  There's plenty of amazing work in the collection. i'm not disagreeing and not going to defend all the images, i've seen some stuff that upsets me too, but I don't shoot like that and I've got a large portfolio. I'm happy to be with Stocksy.

. Personally I have looked for images at Stocksy quite a few times and never yet found what I needed, which is usually culturally-diverse lifestyle images. I need  fun, natural-feeling, unposed images and for god's sake, please don't make the models look at the camera.
As a stocksy contributor i am surprised by this comment. They have been the champion of culturally-diverse content for years, (so much so that I won't use blonde-haired caucasian models at all), as well as authentic, fun, non-stocky looking imagery. And you've no idea how many, many declines I get for "camera aware" expressions.

Adobe Stock / Re: Statistics
« on: June 27, 2020, 01:18 »
You can select past dates, but no more than 13 months in one go.

Their stats reporting is terrible and hasn't been improved in a long time (which leads me to believe they don't give this any priority), but you can get there if you do it year by year

I agree, the 13 month limit is not ideal. We are aware our statistics tools have a lot of room for improvement. There are resources dedicated to this needed improvement and I'll be sure to update MSG when that happens.

Thanks for your patience!

Mat

as always, thanks Mat. Yes, the inherited stats page is awful, looks a bit better than Fotolia's but still very annoying to have to click through so many pages to see stats. Not to invoke those SSDevils but their dashboard is excellent. (or should say, it was).  Glad to hear an update is on the roadmap.

da vinci resolve has a free version. but "removing a logo" in video is not exactly beginner's work.....

Photography Equipment / Re: Monopod advice
« on: December 10, 2019, 04:57 »
I still have my manfrotto monopod, it's been useful on an off. When you buy something of quality it lasts for a long time (buy nice or buy twice), unless I lose it I image it will do me until I quit photography.

I saw this recently on a shopping site, the "model" was clearly not an actual human. For fast fashion they'll do anything to cut costs.

36
a few month ago I sold drone footage on Getty to Foxtel, Australia's #1 paid cable/subs service, there are at least 2million subscribers. I made 78c.

37
I do stock f/t but I'm not the family breadwinner. I could probably survive on my own living in Thailand on what i make, but living in Australia is expensive, kids are expensive. I make a really decent part-time wage, and given i'm the stay at home mum, it's been the perfect job that has allowed me to freedom to be home with my kids, and still work when I choose. I wish I'd started earlier than I did, I seem to have missed the good ol days.

i recently ULd a small batch that had 2 same files, one which I'd tweaked/fixed a small issue, and hadn't removed from the line-up, and both got accepted. oops.

Canva / Re: Canva - did I miss something?
« on: October 06, 2019, 17:40 »
I don't sell on Canva, and from having read a bunch of posts on this website over a number of months, I'd get the impression that Canva is of the devil. The curious part is that I've heard the founder of Canva on a bunch of popular entrepreneur type podcasts on number of times over the last few years, including pretty recently. The impression I get from the podcasts are that Canva is seemingly a pretty well run business. For a private company they have already achieve unicorn status, ie worth over a billion dollars. https://mashable.com/2018/01/09/canva-unicorn-status/. Clearly all your sales have dropped on that platform because they no longer value your work and no longer need it. They have other suppliers now.
I've heard good things about the founder, but these types, these "disruptors" often don't understand that they are ruining the businesses of others who came before them. They are piggybacking on that hard work and claiming some moral high ground with this term "disruptor". They seem to have a really great employee situation, but that's as far as it goes. In the end, they're in it for the money, until either someone else comes along and "disrupts" them, and I can't say I'll be sorry for them, or, more likely, she'll sell the business for a small fortune to someone even worse.

Hello, I'm new here, my name is Heidi. Is it a right place to introduce myself?
I feel like I should offer a trigger warning, but that might be against the culture here. HA. Welcome, strap in, there are no wooyays here, it's brutally honest. Have a read, I'm sure at least half your questions have been answered already. There are some amazing veterans lurking here, sometimes they venture out. :)

I actually got 2 freebies for PS last year, (one from Adobe and one from Stocksy/Adobe) but I'm going for the whole enchilada this time via the video reward. It's good to have some extra motivation to upload video (for me, the editing is the worst part). cheers Mat

Stocksy / Re: How are the video sales on Stocksy?
« on: September 11, 2019, 00:38 »
Part of being in the co-op is acknowledging your commitment to Stocksy. That's part of the culture. Now there are many who don't bother to upload at all, and for a while we discussed what to do about those people, and the solution that came out was to lift the cap to allow more members in (rather than suspend non-performing members). As Sean said, your performance isn't monitored, and there are many ways to ask for help if you need it.

yeah, I don't have a lot, maybe 100. I don't focus on editorial enough.

I've had the same experience with Getty recently (I left istock years ago) so i will no longer be giving them video

Thanks. Is there a way to know how many downloads we still have to have to reach next level or the rank system died and we got frozen where we were? I have an idea this was discussed in the past but cannot remember.
I googled it, not sure if the info is on the adobe image manager.  you need 25K downloads to be emerald, and that's quite a challenge nowadays. your total DLs are on your dashboard.   I am a long way off. :/

Clue/Opinion and I'm not alone. That discoverability is a computer saying, your image is more discoverable, not a fact or promise. Your images may be less discoverable after forcing too many keywords, and a poorer match if you are writing longer titles and descriptions just to have a different color show and suggest you are going to be "more discoverable" because a dot or highlight changed colors.

Don't worry, just do what's right for a proper description and best keywords.
good advice, and I checked on my sales and they were all "poor discoverability" anyway.  I've finally put in some effort to work out which line in Bridge metadata gets the title imported (it's the Description in case you use Bridge too) so now when they get accepted they are already "on sale" so i dont have to bother going in and doing anything.

well that's a lovely start. Sadly, not an emerald at Adobe.
