Off Topic / Virus on mac?
« on: July 19, 2012, 15:18 »
I've seen an increasingly amount of articles about mac computers all of a sudden being subject to threats from hackers, etc. This is just one of many I've read: http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/04/06/widespread-computer-virus-indicates-mac-users-no-longer-safe/
I know a lot of photographers and designers use mac, and I was wondering if any of you have actually experienced this first-hand? I always thought that you couldn't really install anything on mac unless providing an administrator's password, so the installation of a virus should not be possible. However, I recently installed a new browser (RockMelt), and I was not asked for a password during the installation process. I have no idea why or how.

I've looked into possible anti virus software like http://www.intego.com/virusbarrier and other similar things, but I don't want to waste my money, and I definitely do not want a computer that is slowing down too much either.

So... Has anyone experienced getting a virus on their mac? And is their anyone who has first-hand knowledge of some of the various anti-vira mac software?

http://arcurs.com/2012/06/retouching-more-than-2000-files-in-24-hours/ - Video

Retouching more than 2,000 files in 24 hours!

If you read my blog post on the hectic launch of PeopleImages.com you will definitely find this video interesting. Just a few days before the scheduled launch date, I realized something terrible: I had promised the entire world a site with at least 70,000 images from my collection, but we only had around 68,000 files online. Imagine launching a site with a massive headline on the landing page saying 70,000 royalty free images and the users then proceeding to the search page and find that they are currently viewing 1-50 of 68,325 images. Not good at all!

We only had a one day, but it had to be done. So we created a 24 hour challenge at our studio in Cape Town!

I am still amazed by the fact that 24 retouchers took up the challenge and worked for 24h+ to help make the promise come true, and I am grateful to each and every one of them. It is amazing working with people who take so much pride in their job and who are willing to go that extra mile it sometimes takes to get to the finish line.

When we saw the sun in the horizon the next morning, we had the necessary 70,000 images, and although we were all completely exhausted, it was so great to see everyone with huge smiles on their faces. The team finished more than 2,000 images during those 24 hours, and some of the fastest retouchers on the team got through as many as 250 images without compromising the quality of their work. (Passed Quality Control!)

Thanks to all those who took part in this great, tiresome, awesome, funny and amazing challenge. You can now find some of those 2,000 images here on PeopleImages.com. :)

Have anyone tried out the "custom retouching" thing on Yuri's new site?? http://peopleimages.com/image/retouching
I have to admit I think its a bit overly ambitious. I mean, it sounds cool and everything but is it really realistic??
I have only ever had 3 or 4 people who's asked me for some kind of alteration of my images, and only once was what it actually possible. Of course, I don't sell as many images as Yuri, but still
I mean is there a market for it at all? I don't think a lot of people really understand what's possible in photoshop and what's not. The few requests I've gotten have all but one been completely insane. Like, one guy actually asking me to pretty much create an entire body. It will never look real, and if Yuri's people say they can do stuff like that to all their images........ Hmm
Not really sure what to think about it.

Anyone tried it out?? I'm thinking of trying it out just to see if what you get is actually usable?

Microstock Audio / Starting with Audio!
« on: May 02, 2012, 06:14 »
If I wanted to start Microstock Audio. What are the necessary steps to take? How do I start? What are my boundaries? Rules? Best way to start? What sounds does the public look for?

If anyone has some information or experience, please tell me.

I am rather interested in this.

Newbie Discussion / I'm new
« on: April 18, 2012, 13:53 »
Hi Guys.

I am pretty new to the site. I would just like to say hi.

I have done stock for some time now. It sells reasonably well. I am getting too old to be a part of new things. I am a relaxed kind of guy.

Pleased to meet you!
