I used Blender long time ago for architectural 3D modelling. As far as I remember, It's not for vectors.

A freeware program for vectors is Inkscape:
http://inkscape.org/

Its native format is .svg, but can export to .eps using ConversionSVG (freeware as well):

Those two apps are definitely the best in 3D and vectors in the OpenSource field.

General Stock Discussion / Re: A list of partner programs
« on: October 12, 2011, 17:25 »
Hi CoisaX and Sadstock,
I'm the guy from Pixmac ;-)

We have several partners on our site. Some are microstock agencies, some are traditional RF agencies. We've only discontinued reselling of two microstock agencies during our existence. Since that time, we've already reached a larger partner portfolio than ever before.

And always, we only re-sell images if we have the right to do so. We always try to get all images from the particular source/partner site, so there's definitely not a system that picks only 'some' images. The only situation that comes to my mind is that for some reason we've not finished uploading all the photos to our database or there's some other individual issue.

In case there is any particular problem with any of your photos/ports at Pixmac. Feel free to ask Lucy [email protected] for the explanation and clarification about what we have and don't from a particular agency. We're usually pretty quick.

And also, we never have hi-res files from the partner upfront. So it's not possible to re-sell any partner sourced images at Pixmac in case the partnership is terminated. It's all connected via API, so the partner agency has full control over that.

Maybe a caching algorithm would fix all that? We did that once the stats got large and now it refreshes let's say once an hour and only if you log-in. So If you come to the page often you get it once per hour, if you come once a day you'll get immediate results. And sure the previous months/years should be cached 'forever' until there's a change such as refund or so.

Thank you lisafx, Xalanx and shiyali. I'll do my best to even improve our approach.

And lisafx, sure you're not the only one asking for that :-) We have been working on the contributor backend for a while and this functionality is one of those crucial ones.

Btw. September really was the BME for Pixmac contributors. It would be amazing if sometimes in the future you'd be able to see sales generated by Pixmac in our partner agencies.

Would you please be so kind to delete my mailing address from your data.
I've never signed up and will never sigh up with Pixmac, so please, how did you get hold of my email address.?..

Last warning.

Patrick H.

Sure, no problem. I haven't seen any of your previous warnings. Sorry. Would you please be so kind to let me know which email address should we delete? I was searching for anything containing "patrick1958" and there's no such user/email registered at Pixmac. We probably re-sell your images via API from partner agencies. I'll inform our tech team to diconnect any portoflios with nickname "patrick1958" so you'll never see sales from us (on sites where you contribute to) as well as we'll remove your photos from our website within upcoming days.

I would really like to upload my portfolio but there's still something niggling me.

Thank you sharpshot for being open. I would do the same if I was in your shoes. As always, climbing up is way more difficult than falling down.

How many from that 1 million were approved and are now available to buy? 50%?

Sorry for misunderstanding. There's 1M of already approved photos.

It's the Tab "Subscription":

Pixmac / 1 million directly uploaded photos at Pixmac
« on: September 27, 2011, 05:45 »
Hi Everyone!

Today we've reached 1 million photos directly uploaded at Pixmac. Sure, it's not a big deal compared to other agencies. For us it's an important milestone and a proof that we attract contributors by sales. Rather than talking about how cool we are.

We've been mostly focusing on driving sales to the Pixmac site rather than being active in contributor focused marketing. We are also reselling photos from other micro agencies. So we could already be behind some of your earnings here and there. I hope that we all share the main target and that's generating revenue to each of you. That's what we're working on every day. 'Nothing else matters'

As it seems today, September is going to be BME in terms of contributors revenue. And I wanted to thank you all for support during these challenging times, when big agencies cut their commissions almost on a monthly basis.

Europe OK.

The question is if it possible to start another "fair" iStock again. It could be built by contributors, it could be favourable to them more than to the agency's operation costs. But is there a bunch of skilled contributors who can jump in and build the real thing?

There are people talking how unfair the world is. I've also seen contributors building their own sites as they weren't aware about marketing challenges (it's really about getting to buyers rather than just having a fancy site).

My few cents is this initiative http://fairstockphotoagency.com/ still I'm not sure if the idea is right/final.

Any ideas?

When all platforms are offering the same images (more or less) fairness matters.

Nice :-) Thx!

We've deactivated the account while we investigate it. If anyone finds such images elsewhere at Pixmac, please send me a PM or email so that we can take action. Thx!

People always like to use Alexa as a reference, I know I do it too sometimes. But it is based on the traffic of people who have installed Alexa.

True. It's good to combine resources. And read between the lines. I mainly use stats like Alexa, Compete, Quantacast, Blogsearch, Twitter, AdPlannner, Yahoo to give me an idea of the trends, because in the relative world, trend and actual market position is just fine.

Alexa of TOP4 agencies in last 12 months. It's based on users that have Alexa toolbar in their browsers. The number means actual position of the site in complete internet. So currently iStock is 320th most visited site.

So why did you ask her for 2 forms of ID? Or did you just institute the above policy today, because we found out about it?

The automated "payout request" system requests 2 ID's by default.

Pixmac / Re: Happy with Pixmac so far!
« on: August 23, 2011, 01:09 »
We check the ID's on a per user basis. If it's a known name with files elsewhere we are ok with one ID. If it's a new user we're more strict. For anyone here one ID is fine. We're also developing new upload system that would be a way more easy to use and understand.

Yes.

Another observation: When an agency subs your images to another agency, and that one subs to another, and so on and so on, how the heck does the original creator ever get paid our few pennies? The whole thing is very disconcerting to me.

Hi Lisa. We do partnerships like that. I guess in all cases the contracts don't allow resellers to further resell the content. It would make the original site as unhappy as you.
