Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia - higher prices
« on: February 19, 2014, 23:37 »

FT don't appear to have been investing much in their site for ages, in contrast to most others. I wonder if the price increase could be the first step towards an exit strategy?
Could you explain that in more detail?

They basically went to the market for a loan to pay special divendend to the owners.  There was a thread on it on here before.

Good to see constructive post where I learnt abit about taking photos instead of hearing about being screwed over with partner programs. :)

could you do some composite to get around the noise.
Probably an extreme amount of work though for microstock earnings.

4000 odd hits on Shutterstock for "star trails". Alot look like composites (or even fabricated) to me + theres heaps of illustrations (4000 are photos)

Try working with the Australian Dollar. it went from 50c US to 105c US and now is around 90c US.

Good for consumers of overseas goods.
Bad for exporters and tourism industry. Many industry's now shutting due to the USA printing money. Australian car industry is going to be closed down in 2017.

Result LCD TV's are cheap, no jobs for factory workers.

Come on man, leave some scraps for the little guys.

Subscription resale ?? Grossly unfair to receive effectively low single figure commission. Deposit photos just joined the list of my most hated agencies.

With shady working like this you could subscription sell your contributors work to another website owned by you, sell them for $5 each and make 94%.

We are in an unfortunate profession where there are no entries barriers, such as law, medicine or engineering. Anyone can buy a camera and be a photographer as opposed to buying a drill and doing dental work. Then again, I have done my own plumbing work and have learned to hire a pro after so nasty mistakes!

+1 although in Hong Kong you can buy second hand dentist equipment at the markets and start your own black market dentistry. owch.

well I wouldn't have put money on this 2 years ago. I can more than understand when SS is polling at more than the next top 3 combined.

Dreamstime I think is a good one, no exam to get in, decent sales.

some suggestions

have ftp upload that works
be as close as you can to a one click submit process
successful read metadata including entered in PS, Infranview
categories optional if you have to have them.
don't implement a tiered commission schedule
drink lots of beer at little creatures brewery  obedia is my favourite

If you want people to submit photos it has be lowest amount of work as you don't have any record of selling images. Without images you won't sell any.

I'll be waiting until successful metadata uploading before I send any more.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock PP has started for November
« on: December 20, 2013, 22:06 »
I've only got 1 PP sale from the 17th ?
Looks like extended license as the royality is $35.86.
I'm sure more will pop in as the slow gears of PP processing continues.

I go to a local PHO restaurant and they have a BBQ kind of spring roll I like, but we usually get soup.  Our little saying at work is lets go get some PHOQUE... ;D ;D ;D ;D

We don't have Pho restaurants where I live so I send people to the far que instead.

I couldn't care less if FT disappeared and buyers went elsewhere, They are my most disliked agency. I don't understand how they are 3rd in the earning list ?

Well if your getting rejected I won't bother to apply.
I can understand why your asking for advise because I would have thought that those images show that your more than good enough.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Sneaky checkbox
« on: November 25, 2013, 03:12 »
I did it once and only realised when the warning came up.

I noticed one time that I had a photo marked exclusive, assuming I made a mistake. I couldn't work out how to make it nonexclusive so I had to disable.

With all the sherlock holmes around here I'd be sure to be caught ;)

I had a look at their site, but found it hard to understand royality arrangement.

Is this the summary ?
25 photos online for free, $30/year for unlimited
You set a markup on the print cost which is your cut
If you pay the $30/year you get 5% of the cost of frames etc the customers buy.
