Veer / Re: Veer Uploading Down?
« on: May 03, 2013, 06:57 »
I've had trouble uploading for months now. I emailed support and they said they had a problem and were looking at it .

Still months later it doesn't work.  I use the web upload and it comes up with "unknown error" very helpfull. Tried using FTP and couldn't get it to work either.

So at the moment Veer aren't getting any of my new uploads.

As they are in the low earners category they really need to make this work seemlessly if they want people content.

999 = 142 per day
      =  6 per hour

Even with their stupid slow upload system you would be able to max out the limit if you didn't need any sleep.

I'd expect an influx from the mythical Indie factories

your not on istock then.

No emails for approved rejected.  You need to go to the "history" location bottom right.

don't get that many downloads at Bigstock, a couple of subs a couple of credits

BS is 10% of the earnings I get on shutterstock. which matches resonably well the the earning ratings on the right.

These cycles are normal and how DT operates.  Serban came in here one time to explain that the only fair way to give everyone an even chance is to "position files" favorably for a period (probably 1-2 weeks) then it changes back.  So it is common to see a week or two of subs, then a week or two of OD's not because I say so, but because Serban said so.

Interesting (if true).  So on DT, "every dog has his day" and only long-term averages are meaningful.

I think that's a fair way to summarize it.

I definitely see this patern with my own sales.  None, subcriptions, then credit sales.  No totally that way but enough to see the patern.

I don't mind it being that way instead of stuck at the back of every exclusive, company, factory, agency, whole owned content that happens at other agencies.

good to have some positive news (about the downloads that is)
Too many doom and gloom things been going on.

It gets harder and harder doesn't it? My understanding, based upon the answers I get from the admins, is that you don't need the email or credentials for a NON-TICKETED event held on public property. They gave me a little blurb to include for the reviewer so he/she wouldn't make a mistake. Sheesh!

Would you be able to share "the mistake preventing blurb"
If it is the same as my blurbs are they are all different, I have a case number to give the reviewer for whatever event I shoot.

Just write to SS ahead of time and get the answer back with a case number so you dont run into any problems.

Do you mean email    [email protected]

I wonder if "focus" rejection is the top of the select list.

I really don't think that most people keyword alphabetically, why so? it makes no sense, ain't better to make sure you have at least the most important ones first and then you can dig a few more?

it is handy for FT, PM and also Alamy

If you use tools like yuri keyword tool it puts them alphabetically.

If you search for a editorial photo approved recently and modify their caption.

BTW whats the latest on the credential's saga ?

What about a public sporting event shot from public area. i.e. no entry fee. Things like road running races, ocean motor boat racing, surfing competitions ?

Edit
Sorry I though the number quoted were the sale prices.
Still low

217
Personally I'd prefer a % of say 50%   If and only if

1) paid competent reviewers
2) the additional money went to improving the site, advertising etc.

I'd prefer to have 50% of more sales than 85% of none.

Others will have different views.

I haven't tried submitting but the major things that you'll need to have to get people involved is that the system needs to be very simple and quick.

If you can make it a 2 second process to submit you'll get alot more images than if it is a 7 step process with drop down menus etc.

Does/can the geotag location go the correct basic area from reading the keywords if you don't have the co-ordinates embedded. eg I have london as a keyword, can the map centre on london to start and then I can fine tune its location. eg Tower Bridge.

Make categories optional, auto-populate. The members here have hundreds to thousands of photos.

Do you have particular market areas in mind ?
Europe, USA, Asia ?

I wish all startup the best of luck.

219
DT has a geotag feature already.

You have to grill them very well to become red.

Hmm, why they are not red?
(Je tire ou je pointe?)

I like this photo and sure it sells great.

To add some debate I wouldn't have really described it as a travel photo. It may be a photo you took whilst travelling. Maybe if there was more background that identified the actual location. i.e. blurred effiel tower in background.

If I travelled to Spain and took a photo of a golf ball would that be a travel photo ?

Does a "travel photo" mean one you'd expect to see in a travel advert ? or some other definition ?

I'm just interested in what people consider to be "travel photos"

221
I mainly sell in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. More specifically, I sell in Zimbabwe, Germany, Turkey, China, Japan, New-Zealand, Chad, Pakistan, Mexico, Chile, Afghanistan Canada, Cape Verde, Hungary, Ireland, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Laos, Cambodja, Vietnam, Liechtenstein and Portugal. Occasionally in Qatar, Norway, Vatican City, Turkmenistan, Swaziland, Wales and Solomon Islands. But most of my images are sold in the Western Sahara, Antarctica, Easter Islands and the Bermuda Triangle.

Right now I'm looking into expanding my customer base to Mars and Jupiter.

The solar system is so 2012 I'm working on expanding into the next galaxy.

Looks like canon 5dmkII is the most popular microstock camera (@DT)
1.15million.

not really a surprise.

Should I start shooting with a Casio QV-5700. Theres only 26 photos to compete with if a designer specifically wants an photo from that particular model.

Hang on there's the  Ricoh CX2 with only one photo. I'll be rolling in cash, nobody steal my idea okay !!!

I probably could have come up with something else to develop if I was running the show.

I've got 2 downloads for the 1st, its has started

224
I've never seen one sold in antartica. Probably not many buyers there.

It goes in cycles, I'll sell a bunch in the us then some in europe then some in asia/australia. Most likely due people mostly downloading in working hours.

I have alot of travel type images it is interesting to see where the bought from. Sometimes right from where its taken but probably as many from different countries.

225
if the price drops any further it will unprofitable for the professional level photos to be produced.

There will be plenty of part timers/hobbiest who don't rely on the money "to feed the family" that will continue to provide the easy, cheap to produce photos.

I'm sure that it is more effecient for the agencies to have the factory outlets with 95% acceptance rate than relying on part timers. If they drop the price too much they'll lose the top end photos that sell alot and keep buyers on the site.

You'll still be able to find a picture of an apple on microstock but you won't get anywhere near as many of those 15 model shots with perfect makeup etc.
