You can also get 200 a day subscription what ???   12 months $10979
what on earth are you going to do with 73000 stock photos a year ?
Start your very own heroturko?  Sell thousands of DVDs on the streets of Bangkok?

I guess nothing legal or morally correct

sorry to hear it didn't work out.

Do you think chosing a specialised area for the agency to focus on might have turned out differently ?

have you seen the pricing for subscriptions at bigstock

5 per day = $69 per month.

xl normally 6 credits each,   4 XL images for $49.

I can see alot of buyers moving to subscriptions with pricing like that.

make your own with random notes. 99% of people buying the photos wouldn't even notice. Just make sure you put a note to the inspector that you composed it.

38cents is nearly 50% more than 25cents.
If this was my fulltime work it would be more than significant.

52%

thanks, I apologise to all the readers of this thread.
I'd hate people to to think 50% more of 25cents gives a total of 38 instead of 37.5cents
I'm so sorry !

In addition to making your actual images larger on your own site, you should perhaps look at what 123RF appears to be doing. Their watermarked thumbs show up in Google searches as 1200 x 1200 pixel images. They aren't that size though. So lying about your thumb size somewhere in the HTML looks (for the moment anyway) to be an SEO strategy of sorts :)

I definitely see more of my images in google search from 123rf than from any other source. So what ever they're doing works.  maybe 1205 x 1205

General Stock Discussion / Re: Tax for Australians.
« on: February 15, 2013, 04:29 »
You can operate as a sole trader without forming a business.

Ok I'm not a tax agent or anything. Sorry if I have mixed terms.

What I meant by not forming "a business" I think I should have said "forming an incorporated company"

My point was that you can operate as a sole trader without registering for GST or obtaining a ABN and report the income on your personal income return.

From ATO website.
"Reporting and paying income tax
As a sole trader, you need to report the business
income you earn (after expenses) on your personal
income tax return, along with any other income
you earn."

Haven't check here in a little while. Certainly big and unexpected news.
SJ I'm sure you'll land squarely on your feet and I wish you all the best.

I'm sure you don't need any advise from me but if you need somebody to refer you to this high selling agency called shutterstock send me a message. ;)

5% tax treaty with the US.

definitely keep some records to prove that your operating as a hobby.

A figure of $50k quoted by someone umm I'd make sure I had some good records to defend that one.

km's are a good thing to show the costs associated with microstock

I think the targets are way too high. But remember that they'll be counting subscriptions sales on bigstock which will increase everybodies download count.

Seems like they should just combine bigstock and shutterstock under the one umbrella. Keep the 2 sale websites. Sales from Bigstock report over at Shutterstock. Only upload at shutterstock.

That probably makes too much sense and is hampered by some software programming issue.

238
I'd recommend starting at Dreamstime, etc (no test to pass) get some runs on the board, this will let you work out which of your photos are actually wanted by the stock machines.

Shutterstock you'll need 10 great ones.

A bride and groom to be were both unfortunately killed in a freak accidents on the way to their wedding.

They arrive at the pearly gates together and are greeted at the gates by one of the angels. "Welcome to heaven. I'll show you around but first thing do you have any requests ?"

"Well we were on our way to get married, any chance of that ?"
"Sure I'll arrange it."
Off goes the angel and returns 4 weeks later. "I've finally found a priest ! There's not that many of them here it turns out. Are you ready to go ahead ?"

"I've just one question" asked the groom. "If it doesn't work out are you allowed to get a divorce in heaven ?"

With a look of astonishment the angel replies.
"Your saw how long it took me to find a priest, how long do you think it would take to find a lawyer ?"

What do you call a lawyer with two wooden legs ?

A waste of wood !

I can't get the upload system to work at all at the moment. I've just stopped uploading there till later, sales aren't good so I've been trying to spend my time where it will return the most money.

Unfortunately I spend too much time reading posts here ;)

Based on all of what is happening, I think there might be grounds for a class action case. You cannot force contributors to an "agreement" to promote our images without giving us an option to opt out of it. There is a case against facebook now that seems to be of the same guide lines. Facebook is trying to settle it quietly. The judge has rejected the settlement since it does not award any damages to facebook contributors. For facebook, it could result in a lot money.

From the article: "The lawsuit, brought by five Facebook members, alleged the social networking site violated California law by publicizing users likes of certain advertisers on its Sponsored Stories feature without paying them or giving them a way to opt out, the documents said."

http://dangerousminds.net/comments/facebook_quietly_settled_lawsuit_that_could_have_involved_up_to_1_in_3_amer

There are also other articles that show how Facebook is forcing people to pay to insure all your followers will read your posts. Guess what? People are now turning against facebook. Amazing how you can screw up your own business...

Surely that wouldn't stand up, can they kill me and say I agreed no trials by jury.
