General Stock Discussion / Re: Underwater photos camera
« on: October 28, 2012, 13:05 »
I wouldn't recommend doing much underwater photography for microstock sites unless you have a very strong interest.  Costs for good underwater gear are just too high and returns too low unless you're a real pro (and maybe for them as well).

I've used several cameras with underwater housings, from P&S to DSLR.  They all work fine, but to get acceptable sharpness for stock you will need a strobe light or two unless you are somewhere with very clear water, and underwater strobes cost a fortune.  Plus a shock-resistant case to transport all of your gear, etc., and with the tough competition from some excellent underwater specialist photographers out there it will be difficult or impossible to earn back your investment.

That said, there are plenty of underwater housings for almost every camera out there including the 5D - see here (http://wetpixel.com/i.php/full/canon-5d-mark-ii-housing-shootout/) for some comparisons.  Plenty of others are available.  You will probably spend 2-3 times the cost of the camera for decent underwater gear.  If you live somewhere where you can go diving a lot or otherwise will use it for a lot of pool shots you might be able to get your investment back, otherwise just do it for fun and if you get a few decent stock shots it's all for the better.  For example, I just searched on iStock for coral reef fish and got over 7500 images.  If you sort by downloads there are lots with blue and gold flames.  However, almost all of those are 5 years old or older.  If you look at the the best shots from the past six months they usually have no DLS yet, although I did find one with 3.  That's going to be a very long time to pay off your equipment, if ever.  So I wouldn't bother unless you're a serious scuba diver and have money to burn.

Excellent explanation.  Many thanks for your suggestion.

Which camera you recommend that is good for underwater photos in stock sites?

Or if you reccomend a special cover for an existant camera.  I have a 5d but i think is too heavy to manage under the water and i havent seen any special cover for that one.

Many thanks for your recommendations.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Wacom tablets

I've been using tablets for 10+ years. Those are too small in my opinion. Go one size larger and you'll find much more control over detail and less strain on your fingers.  8)

Hello.

Im want to buy a Wacom tablet to test on my designs in photoshop.

I just want to draw on images in photoshop.

Which one you recommend.

I saw the Wacom splash and the wacom capture.

I have been using microstock Report on my android tablet and phone for the last 6 months, and I had no problem purchasing it from the Slideme.org website.  I like the widget that sits on a page with a brief view, and the ability to open the application and see more details.

I like how android is more flexible and has several places to get apps instead of the limited Apple app store.
Many thanks Ibarn, any problem please let me know, its my pleasure to help you.

That app is off google market and its dead for years (no updates) in few weeks you will get Microstockr for android

Its not on the google market because i took it off.  Google market dont let some countries to put their price on, they just let you to put it free and gain on the google ads, thats why its not there and it is on Slide me application.  The work is very harder to put it for free.  Microstock Report has 29 agencies on it.

Good luck with your application on Iphone.

Personally i don't trust 3rd party marketplaces, and as i see on Slide the app it's not free as you said

Nice way to promote your product, destroying others.  Thats bad Paul, doit on the right way.

I never say it was free.

Its a personal perspective of the customer.  They can choose which one is better.  I just decide the third party for the hard work of the app to be recognized.

That was the only purpose.

Good luck with your app.

Yuri.

Keep on giving tips for us the contributors, is always good to know things from succesful people in the business we are.

I know many successful people that are very selfish with their knowledge and work and not share nothing to nobody.  In my special case i take in my work many of your tips, starting from the universal model release you create long time ago and your site to help with keywords available for all of us that are your direct competition.

All the best.

David.

What have these (probably very nice, intelligent) people actually done to you directly?  A completely unwarranted attack, as far as I can see.

+ 1 (shall I shave??)

+2.  I use everyday Wikipedia to get updated and everything there match with editorials and newspapers.

Hello.

I saw the terms and agreements to release the pictures and it says the following:

Terms of Service / Agreement:
1.All photos which you activate for Getty Images remain in the system for at least six months. Early deletions of accepted photos is neither possible at Getty Images, Photolibrary or Zoonar.
2.The photos must not be distributed via Corbis or Veer.

Point 2.   Means that i cant have the same images at veer??

Please somebody clear me that.

Many thanks.

What luck, I just sold an extended license for a Lausanne photo this morning for $42.  Rooftops, church spire, lake and French mountains beyond.  It's like I always say, I can never predict what will sell, and no longer try.  Lets keep talking, I'm not superstitious, but this was a nice coincidence.
What a coincidence Ralcro.

Thanks for that important tip.

Best regards.

David.

Is it just me or is this really kind of a presumptuous question?  I guess a function of this forum is to help newbies get on in Microstock. But recommendations for what to shoot in certain locations so someone can make images that compete for sales directly with one's own images?

Places to eat, places to stay, ok. But places to shoot?  I don't think so.

Have a nice trip and take some good pictures but do your own research.

if you dont want to give away your 'secrets' that's your choice - but i think the question is not only reasonable, but EXACTLY the sort of advice i look for in a community / forum like MSG

i'm more than happy to tell people what's of interest here in seattle http://cascoly.hubpages.com/hub/Best-way-to-see-Seattle-is-to-leave-it  and appreciate other folks here giving advice on what to see and do

Hi Cascoly,

Thanks so much for your reply and your concept about Fred.  You know sometimes in the world you find some selfish person, but this life is a balance.  We had to accept them and share with them.

Thanks so much to everybody giving me those valuable tips i really appreciate it.

Have a very good day all.

Hi Ivelin.

What you mean by issues with dreamstime???

Please explain, because im applicating there and i dont want any trouble with dreamstime.  I have good sales there.

Thanks.
