What's super potential? If I had to guess what my best 5 sellers would be before I uploaded them I would be dead wrong. I'd put my very best seller (29/mo on IS) way down on my list. Best advice, put 'em all on as many decent sites as you can and let the dollars vote.

You could always post the image here and have us judge what's super. That would also be a crap shoot. We'd all be wrong too.

Its not that i know it will be a super seller, it that i know the work it took me to do it, and i like the result, so probably more a personal thing that anything, but i was tempted to give it a "unique" treatment, but as time goes by i am less convinced.
I know this kind of post arouses curiosity, so once the image is on air i will post it here.
cheers

I would keep RM for niche pictures which have little potential in terms of number of sales, but could command an
higher price once in a while.

Good point.
Any one have experience selling prints or other products with your photos, can this be made with images allready on micro agencys?

53
Ok, don't take me for an arrogant.
I don't know if i have a super sales photo or not, but i recently did an image that took me more work than usual, and i that i think is going to sell pretty well. This makes me think of what could i do to try make the most out of it, and the macro possibility came to my mind. I'm contributing to several micros and Alamy with the same port as RF.
Do you think it's good to bet for some special images that maybe took more work or we feel are special in some way or the most we can expect is that become good sellers in micros?
Being allready in Alamy, could i upload just one image (at the moment) as RM? Should i do this by another alias maybe?
Maybe i should try to sell this as print or something like that, can we do this with an image allready selling in micro? where can we do this?
I would like to know your thought on this matter, and if you sell both in micros and macros would appreciate experiences.
The thing i like most when i think of RM is the more control i could have on the particular image, knowing the use and everything about it.

Cheers

« on: November 30, 2010, 15:36 »
I hope this agency thing is the begining of a new model where prices grow for all of us in general microstock. Im not exclusive so the agency collection has no interest to me other than that.
Why would a photographer complain about the prices being too expensive?

i wonder what is wrong asking a questions? I am sorry if i wasted your time but why don't you just leave stupid people like me alone?

I had a question and i had googled it and i just wanted to have a confirmation. What is wrong with that?

 ???

Nothing wrong asking questions, dont take my answer as that, english is not my lenguage and some times i guess my words may be misunderstaken. You can off course make questions about what you want, by the kind of questions you ask, i am under the impression you have not a clue about 3D, even though you are in miscrostock forum asking this questions. My advise is you go to especific forums and tutorials to start lerning, if you like it and get involved in the learning, you shuold then start thinking of making a bussines out of it, i just feel you are starting the wrong way. You can go to cgtalk, thats a specific forum.
You can just ignore my advise also if you feel its with bad intention, bad its not the case.

I have see you are asking this kind of questions from some time now. What software to use, what machine, etc.
I wonder, if you dont have any 3d background experience, what makes you think you can just start earning money from this field? Of course you could learn and prectise, but the kind of questions you do makes me feel you think this is like an automatic thing, some magic push the buton and ... voil!!! image done.
Like any field needs practice and knowledge to master and to let you freely express what you are imaginating.

Looks like a good tool.
First thing that come to my mind is about the security, how can i be sure the paswords are secure?

« on: November 24, 2010, 15:27 »
...
So, what was the point of all these efforts ???

Of course, its always nice to be present on one of the big ones in the microstock market and reassuring about photo quality but who is really going to make money with this kind of company ?
At the end of the day, the goal is to sell pictures, not to be proud to have images lingering on shutterstocks website.

After careful consideration, it seems to me that all these processes and picky procedures to get accepted by shutter are just part of a big bulshit game.

...

So I would recommend not to rush to this kind of sites, but rather try the less known ones that are building their collections and offer much more visibility and prospect of growth than over bloated, paranoid process-mongers like shutterstock.

...

Sounds like too many conclusions for someone that doesnt have the experience of actually selling there. If this is your way of feeling good about the decline answer, then i say, you are right, not woth it believe me, you are going to do better in this bussines staying away from the big players, instead go to those new agencys out there.
Of course this is not true in any case, but hey i cant care less.
About your statment of being the most picky on the review and also being the only one with a period of waiting for your next try, then i guess you didnt even try IS.

Yesterday was an exceptional day for me with even an EL (50 credits  received $46.29)!
Sales went through the roof! Wish it was like that everyday, LOL!

Lucky you, congrats! for me this monday would have been a better choice but hey, lets no complain on the good things.

« on: November 24, 2010, 11:29 »
if the images are truly going to be highlighted and actually shown on the main page then that is indeed a good promotion tool.  Is that what you are saying?

That was what i understood when first read the rules, however i see now the 20 images are allready choosen and the vote link is not through an image lightbox but trough the stockys page.
Finally none of my images where selected, and the voting is not very user friendly so its not what i was expecting as promotion, however today i have sold an image i propose for the emotionally evocative that didnt have any sale before in mora than a year, but of course it may be just a coincidence.
Anyway i dont see this contest thing as a bad thing.

I a am, as most of you, pissed off by the late changes in IS, and have said so in the past, however i don't quite get this general reject about the stockys thing. Personally i saw this as an opportunity to show our work in the front page, an always welcome publicity (never actually see this as a possibility to win, that's just a formality being an award contest).
It's like SS letting us propose images to show in the front page lightboxes, instead of picking them by hand (i would love that).
I have submitted some images and hopefully some of them may pass the 20 finally selected, if not at least is there a link in the front page that maybe can attract some buyers to my port.
Anyway i don't see this as a bad thing from IS.
Cutting our share, bad; let us promote our port, good.

« on: November 20, 2010, 09:07 »
I found this on wikipedia:

"The functional design and elements of it that were patented by Mies in Germany, Spain and the United States in the 1930s have since expired.[citation needed] The Barcelona chair was manufactured in the US and Europe in limited production from the 1930s to the 1950s. In 1953 van der Rohe ceded his rights and his name on the design to Knoll, knowing that his design patents were expired. This collaboration then renewed popularity in the design.

Knoll claims to be the current licensed manufacturer and holder of all trademark rights to the design.[citation needed] In 1965, Knoll purchased the trademark rights to the Barcelona word from Drexel. In 2004, Knoll received trade dress rights to the design from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Despite these trademarks, a large replica market continues. Gordon International New York has continued to manufacture the designs since the 1970s, even after a court battle against Knoll in 2005.[citation needed] In 2008, another court battle erupted between Knoll and Alphaville Design California; the outcome is pending Summary Judgment in Federal District court.[citation needed]"

What do you think.

« on: November 20, 2010, 08:17 »
Hello: I was going to start a new post on exactly the same subject here.
In my case they have deactivated 20 images, one of them being my most downloaded with 584 DL and a DLs/mo rate of 40.4, withc means the image was downloaded several times a day. Thay have just kill my projections of income there. Other have more than 100 Dl also.
This images were all 3D models of design chairs like the barcelona chair. This images are in all my portafolios in others agencys and as mentioned have been selling for long time in IS also. This was another BIG disapointment on IS for me.
Even if they are right about the copyright, being a 3d model not identical to the real object, wouldnt that be allowed? Isnt this a similar case to all the mobilephones photos were people just clone out the logo or brand and then they can use it?
So sad right now :'(

For me was BME, but the distribution of percentages has changed, for instance some months ago IS was my best earner, now FT has overpass IS witch is on par with SS. This was my first month on Alamy and im loving it, just two sales but enought to let BS and 123rf behind. This pages never were good earners to me. Veer on the other side had a surpresive great day (several EL) in the month that has fixed what otherwise would have been a very bad month.
To summ it up, BME with an estimate increase of 15%.
