Panthermedia.net / Re: taxes at PantherMedia
« on: March 15, 2013, 02:49 »
On Feb 26 2013 Robert from PM wrote that it is possible to apply for a tax exemption and he wrote also that they will help you with that.
Better to contact them directly with your personal info when you still have questions about this.

Yaymicro / Re: Much better YAY!
« on: February 28, 2013, 07:38 »
When I understood well Yay is getting 50 percent from Imageclick first. Then they split the rest again between you and Yay and at last you will get E 0,10, E 0,16 and E0,20 from Imageclick sales. Better to sell your images direct with Imageclick.
About 70 percent of my downloads are unreported until now. Perhaps they are all from Imageclick, for a few sales from them were reported last week.
I now opted out from Imageclick.

On your sales page there's an option to download all your sales from a certain period as an Excel file.
The second option is for partnersales and in the list you can see the agency where the sales came from.

@ Robert from Panthermedia:
Thanks for your response on this forum today.
I had to laugh a bit reading this, for my post is dated April 20, 2012!  ;)

For myself I dont think it will be very useful to ask for a tax exemption. But I am gong to ask for more info about that.
For others, living in countries with different laws, it may be useful. So thank you for the update.

The link is in German language. There are also German speaking people here, so when someone has problems with reading German, perhaps one of them can explain when asked?

Yaymicro / Re: how long for sales to show up?
« on: February 20, 2013, 18:04 »
For I was curious I did a count too. More than double the amount of reported sales are missing!
It is possible that they have been sold as third party sales, but even then: it still seems a lot of unreported sales to me.
For I have had only a small amount of them untill now.
I made copies of the sold ones and we'll see if they will be reported soon.
Is there a way to sort images by downloads, like it is possible with other agencies?

About the third party sales I am asking myself why Yay give no information about these downloads. Like Alamy and Panthermedia do.
The size, the price and simply put uncleared or cleared to the sales and it gives a lot more insight in what is happening.

Insight is a very good thing in this paranoid stocktimes!  ;D Every agency can use some trust from their contributors.
For example: I had E0,10 and E 0,16 sales reported from Imageclick. No idea what the original sale was, so I opted out from Imageclick.

Antivir from Avira is a good antivirus software and has a freeware version.
This version only comes with a pop-up screen when the antivirus definitions are updated.
It has always good scores in tests and reviews.

You submit as an individual to Dreamstime?
Then:
1: Name
3: Individual
4: address
5: mostly empty
6: Empty
7: Your number on the tax forms in your own country. (Only when you have one and pay taxes in your own country)
8: Empty
9: a and b. Name of your country in a
10: Empty (for you wrote your country has no treaty)
And at last your full name as a digital signature. This name must be identical to your identification card.

This way 20 percent will be withhold of all sales made by buyers in the US.
All other sales made worldwide will be paid 100 percent.
You can use this taxform for the taxes in your own country telling that youve paid this taxes already to the IRS in the US.

I believe that this will be all. Will somebody please correct me if I gave wrong information?

Must be simple. Wherefore does Her majesty has Her servants?  ;D

But serious: Dont think theres an easier way. The 50 character limit doesnt make it easier too.

33
I am pretty sure that I am not going to remove hundreds of images one by one!  ;D
Then I buy myself a new card every 6 months!
No. I simply remove the whole map with the images in it (in the cardreader).

34
A few years ago I was reading the advice not to format the memory card when making it empty. Only to do this when it is absolutely needed.
Regular formatting should damage the cards over time. Dont know if this is true, but since I only remove the images from the card when they are copied and backupped.
Never had problems with my CF cards by the way. Using Kingston, Sandisk and sometimes a few older (and slower) Dane-Elec cards.

Recently 123RF made my day by first rejecting as standard rf and then at the same time accepting two images as editorial: a chameleon and a butterfly. Both are close ups without recognizable environment. I had a good laugh and suppose the reviewer made a mistake... ;D

Nr 53.
Image of 'Zwarte Piet' (Black Peter) from Sinterklaas- or St Nicolaasfeest.

So not useless, but also not everywhere in use.

CD123: Of course! was joking too...  ;D

Sometimes even a firewall- and antivirusprogram is not enough. The people advising uninstalling Java (at least temporary until the problems are solved), have these programs on their own computers too, I suppose.)
But everyone can search for the subject, read the articles they find and then decide for themselves what to do.

Oh and by the way: Shouldn't a clean reinstall not be cheaper then buying a new pc?  ;)
When I had bought a new pc every time a program didn't do its job well....... ;D ::)

According to this and other articles there's an advice to uninstall Java completely and disable the plug ins in your browser:
http://blogs.computerworld.com/malware-and-vulnerabilities/21056/another-critical-java-vulnerability-puts-1-billion-users-risk
and: http://news.softpedia.com/news/One-Billion-Users-Affected-by-Java-Security-Sandbox-Bypass-Vulnerability-Experts-Say-294629.shtml
Also Firefox wants to blocklist the plug-ins: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/09/29/firefox_killing_java/

When a program ask for it, then use this program in Google chrome, for at the moment Chrome seem to handle this in the best way.
At the moment Java is very risky and often people don't need it on their computer.
I have removed all of Java and found no problems until now.

Using Firefox. No problems. All pages work fine.
What only amazes me is that I see a 50 percent downfall in earnings in Sept. and also in Oct. when it goes on this way.
Other agencies do well. Strange.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Storing Photos - Backup
« on: September 23, 2012, 16:49 »
In the past I've read stories about people having their accounts blocked by an agency. So keeping your originals can be important some day to prove that your images are really yours.

For friends and relations my nickname is 'Backup': Allways warning people and in most cases they only listen when having a harddisk crash!
"Why didn't you make a backup as I said you to do?" "Well I, was thinking: that will not happen to me!"

Same with antivirus- and firewallsoftware!
People don't realize that their data is only safe when they are not (never!) connected to the internet and have a good backup.
And they don't want to realize either! ::)

So for me I backup on two identical internal harddisks and I use two external harddisks and store them one at a time at the house of friends.

Yaymicro / Re: Yay Distribution Deal With Alamy

So Leaf has right and when having a port that is uploaded to Alamy direct it's better to opt-out.
Thanks for clearing this up!

Yaymicro / Re: Yay Distribution Deal With Alamy
« on: September 17, 2012, 11:47 »
Asking Alamy the following:

"A few days ago I got a message from microstock agency Yaymicro that they had signed a distribution deal with Alamy.
I have a portfolio there too.
Am I right that RF editorial images and images smaller then 24 mb that are on Yaymicro are excluded from sale at Alamy?"

I got this answer:

"We have no specific deals with this agency or any other agencies excluding RF editorial or images smaller than 24MB. However if images below 24Mb are uploaded through our normal route they will automatically be rejected. If the images fall under the reportage/archival/News category they can be uploaded via the reportage/news route.

We will also accept RF editorial images. Unfortunately we do not have a RF-Editorial licence type on Alamy. However RM images on Alamy restricted for editorial use only is essentially exactly the same licensing model as RF-Ed."

So if I understand the answer right, it seems to me that this types of images are included for sale at Alamy and it can be interesting to not opt-out for Alamy sales on Yaymicro when you have a portfolio with a lot of RFeditorials and/or smaller images.

Yaymicro / Re: Yay Distribution Deal With Alamy

Leaf, you said you will opt-out on Yay for the Alamy sales, but I am asking myself: Why should you do that?

I suppose that it will make no difference for your port that is already on Alamy. What will be found on Alamy by Alamy buyers will sell direct via Alamy. (When this is not so, it will indeed be better to opt-out.)

Only gives more chances to sell your images on Yay, for they can now be found by Alamy buyers too. Although you got a lower percentage, you got more visibility and with every agency there seem to be  a different type of buyers, so perhaps this way images are sold that will have no or barely any sales at Alamy direct. Plus images that are in your port on Yay and not on Alamy, can be sold via Alamy too now.

Of course it is better to upload to Alamy direct and you have done that, but for example: Alamy doesnt allow uploading editorials that are sold elsewhere as RF and images that are not 24mb. Now they can be sold via Yay to Alamy buyers.

Or do I miss something or understand things wrong?

Wim:
Do you use Mozilla Firefox and Picniche?
Did you check the prices of extended licenses in another browser?
Lately I had the same problem (extended X set to default).
Contacting Fotolia they said that it was correct at their side.
At last I found out hat it was a wrong setting in Picniche on my computer.

When  indeed your settings are incorrect, send a mail to Fotolia and they put the settings right for you. They did that different times for me.

They either go into the bin OR, they are exhibited at the Louvre in Paris. Take your pick.

Dont know about the cameraclubs, but nearly all other competitions I see here have always at least these three rules:
1-   Send your image per email.
2-   Minimum size.mp.
3-   We become the owner of your images.
