123RF / Re: 123RF Top Tier - Big 5?
« on: October 06, 2011, 07:08 »
Just wondering if Top Tier is some sort of automated classification? Or manually managed?
I still feel there should be Big 5 actually. SS, IS, DT, FT and 123RF are top 5 agencies, and others are a little bit behind.
Interesting to see how it all adds up next month. Sales are picking up everywhere.
Also I can't wait to see PhotoDune in Middle Tier. :) When we start to see stats of that agency?

123RF / 123RF Top Tier - Big 5?
« on: September 24, 2011, 06:53 »
Isn't it time to move 123RF to Top 5 sites on MS classification? It's clearly above Middle Tier agencies for months already.
What do you think?
Or is this classification somehow automatic according to Earnings Rating?
I think 123RF is one of the top agencies among SS, IS, DT and FT.

How to fight against lower and lower commissions!?
Well, it's quite easy actually.
I decided to delete my port from agencies, where RPD drops below certain level I'm happy with. I review sites every month and make a decision based on two or three latest ones, following which trend they show.
And the overall result is that my average RPD gradually grows and volume grows as well as I continually add new images. Microstock as a business is on a rise for me and I'm happy with it. I don't see any problems about "millions of others" who will sell their images on the site what I have dropped. Let them weep on microstock forums why commissions are so low. If you choose to work with agencies with low commission, then you just have to deal with it. I decided to drop them and my stats show that it has been a good decision.

Nice!  :)
Who are these 2 agencies, who will distribute our images via API?
Thanks!

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia cuts commissions again
« on: January 25, 2011, 17:32 »
Point taken, but there is no obvious place for contributors to take their work. Even the agencies who get highest marks from contributors have reduced commissions to increase their share of the take.

That's exactly what I was trying to say. (I'm not very good in English, sorry.) When we spend long hours to invite and convince contributors to fight against greedy agencies, it possibly might turn out just lots of wasted energy. It's much better to focus the energy into figuring out what could be that "other place" (a new business model?), where contributors could take their work, find customers and get fair pay.

Your target (microstock submitters) is wrong.
Agencies exist because of buyers.
Give buyers what they need elsewhere, and they drop those agencies what you don't like.

Look in the history. Slavery didn't ended because slaves stopped working, but because there were people who stood up and made other people understand that it's not ethical to benefit from slaves work.

Image Sleuth / Re: Is this a partner or what?
« on: January 23, 2011, 17:28 »
It seems that partners get thumbnails without watermarks.
But I think it would be wise if all the agencies would make the list of their partners available. There are so many places where we can find our images...

Oh, good. It might be correct then.
Making partner sites names available would be a nice gesture to photographers, but I doubt it will never happen. I would like to see it though.

Thanks, Cathy! I read this announcement... :( Great that DT will do something about it.

My images are those I have on Fotolia [EDITED: actually it is BigStock. My mistake.]. Strange thing is that they have their own thumbnail images with their own watermark (which isn't very good, but that's another story). It might mean that they have full-sized copies in their own databases and BigStock doesn't have any control of the sales statistics.
Am I too paranoid?

DepositPhotos / Re: Who has had sales at DepositPhotos?
« on: November 14, 2010, 08:36 »
I calculated my average revenue and decided that I won't license my images under $0.50 any more. $0.29 was insultingly small average price. I deleted my images on Deposit Photos. Though I love the site environment. It's a beautiful site.
My one and only exception under $0.50 ($0.45 to be precise) is Shutterstock because of the volume.

Wow, this is a great script! Thank you!  :)

This is the standalone gallery: link,
and this is a version embedded in my site (Joomla) in an IFRAME: link, with the copyright notice and the home button removed since they are on the site already.

:o Wow, it looks really nice! Great work!
But search option and cart with checkout would be very nice too...
Why I want to have everything and perfect....  :-\
But your SEO work is really good. Hats off.

Here's the gallery link http://copamilwaukee.com/New/gallery2/main.php

Hey, thanks for the link! I'm just the curious type. :) Nice site.
Hugs for everyone!

40
... helped me integrate it into a photo group site that featured galleries by 70+ members.
Could I see the website? :)

41
There is an ecommerce one that integrates with Zencart

Thanks!  :)  I'm currently testing their Checkout Modul. It allows digital downloads.
Help on the site is great, it's true, but they said, they are focusing mostly on Gallery3 now, so there won't be much implementations for Gallery2. But I guess it gonna be a great photo gallery when it's ready and contributing coders have managed to modify their plugins.

42
I'm trying to get Gallery2 to work on my site http://www.maigi.com/stockimages/. But I guess you already tested it. I was looking for lazy people solution, where you can make uploading and keywording stuff as easy as possible. They are working on new version Gallery3, but it hasn't shopping cart function implemented yet. It you are a programmer... :)

I found a macro recorder WinMacro http://winmacro.codeplex.com/ very useful for repeated actions. But if you are running Mac, it wouldn't help.

Could you tell me please, how can I remove my name from rank listing?
Only you can see your rank. Others can't. That's why this thread was made, for people that want to communicate it.
Oh, that's nice. I didn't know. Thanks, guys!

Hi Leaf,
Could you tell me please, how can I remove my name from rank listing?
Thanks,

You are right and I have no idea... :-\

Oh, Mark. Maybe you got too inspired from the work of somebody else beside Mr Kitaoka? and now you just have to wait, what they gonna decide. Yes it's really hard to find out where lies that fragile line between getting inspired and copying, if you have adventurous soul and you like to test limits. Sad, that you have to learn it in a hard way. Hope you solve it out. Let them know that you have learned your lesson, maybe that can soften the ground.

48
Did you checked his other works too? This guy is genius! I got too dizzy , but you might find a lot of inspiration there and think out your own original patterns. He has lots of great illusions. And there's a logic in there. No need to copy, but the inspiration is the thing you can definitely find. Good luck!

49
Mark, I guess your work was too similar to the illusion of Japanese Professor of Psychology Akiyoshi Kitaoka, who won the Gold prize of the 9th L'ORAL Art and Science of Color Prize, in 2006 in Tokyo with the similar image.
http://www.ritsumei.ac.jp/~akitaoka/index-e.html

PS: Don't miss the warning on that page: This page contains some works of "anomalous motion illusion", which might make sensitive observers dizzy or sick. Should you feel dizzy, you had better leave this page immediately. :)

50
Yep, I did. I just love it so much. :)
I'm using other tools to diminish noise (like NeatImage) and for some images I like grainy look (not for microstock though).
But I'm looking forward to the fix also.
