Photo Critique / Re: SS Application Critique, Please...

For example, I learned that the majority of the shots of the Colosseum in Rome are RF. Only few are Editorial, the ones with some people around the image. In my pic some tourists are visible veeeery far, so I will play safe and submit it as Editorial...
I also noticed that many photo with people in the shadow and not recognizable are submitted as RF. Strange...I wouldn't risk. I think DT is more strict about people in images and they want them to be submitted as Editorial...

The real question is when were those popular building shots accepted?  And those with people in them the same question.  It is very likely that there were accepted several years ago before the rules were adjusted.  Sometime last year SS stopped accepting buildings with property releases if they were "the main subject", this type of architectural shot still is commonly accepted by Istock and Dreamstime.  I would use caution when searching the library for shots like yours and thinking that since some already exist, that similar ones of yours would easily get in, due to the rule change last year.

Some of them, if you right click to view other size, the other sizes aren't "right click protected" thus they could be downloaded

Some have Shutterstock numbers on them (some in Spa series) , so I would guess he did purchase them, but I don't think that gives him the right to display them under his name, and allow others to freely download them and use them?

I used to have a problem with filezilla uploading videos to Shutterstock, and after I changed the number of transfers    under Edit:Settings: Transfers and change under Concurrent transfers - Max simultaneous transfers to 1, my problems went away.  I think I read somewhere that Shutterstock doesn't allow multiple sessions thru FTP.

I use FTP with filezilla. After upload goto their page, click button to process images, after a few minutes click view all, then submit.  Without model releases, its fairly painless.  Make sure you set filezilla (or other FTP program) to upload to bulk_import/photos, otherwise they just disappear.

I asked them last month after a 2 week wait, they said they only payout one time a month, I got mine on sept 30, so it looks like you may have to wait until the end of this month.

Apparently in Florida and Texas the thieves love it
when people use their credit or debit cards at the
gas pump as they harvest thousands of cards daily!

Computer Hardware / Re: Laptop for work with graphics.
« on: June 07, 2011, 17:21 »
I would be cautious with Dell, where I work we use Dell exclusively, and in the last year it seems there quality standards have slipped.  We don't buy the low end laptops, more of the mid and desktop replacement power machines, and have had an increasing problem with parts like motherboards failing.  Our IT folks seem to think Dell has changed their 'mindset" to make it good enough to last until it is off warranty, unlike 5 years ago, when their hardware was considered almost bullet proof.

Wonderful (not really)

I just got one of these deep discount/old credit EL of multi seat 75 credits + unlimited 125 credits = 200 credits at around .78 per credit.

Argh!!!!

No, if you wish to be exclusive to istock for illustrations, you can only submit illustrations to istockphoto period.  You would have to remove all your illustrations from the other sites, and only submit illustrations to istockphoto.

Tim thank for taking the time to update us here and being available to answer questions.

Sunnymars btw your first name is listed on your own zazzle site under comments from July of last year, so it's apparently not "secret".

In this case I don't get the point "I may never reach a payout" since they pay you each month no matter what you made, in other words there is no minimum needed for a payout.

I have used exifer in the past, but found that it was damaging/removing clipping paths from Photoshop files, so you may want to be cautious with exifer if you utilize clipping paths

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Anyone have experience with a mirror lens?
« on: September 13, 2009, 08:24 »
I bought a Spiratone 400mm off ebay a couple of years ago for about $80.00, it came with rear screw in filters, and a 2x doubler.  It supposedly was sold in the late 1960's and early 1970's.  I had to add a t mount for my canon.  It has some fungus growing on the rear element edges, but it never seemed to effect the pictures somehow

I came out with some OK pictures of landscapes and wading birds, but it was manual focus.  My dad had a 500mm sigma mirror for a while, and it seemed to be much better quality.  I never seemed to see the typical mirror lens "donuts" in the background blur that many people report as a problem.

Photo Critique / Re: second reject
« on: September 10, 2009, 19:53 »
A)  A couple of years ago I read about a photoshop action called "Purple Fringe Killer" on luminous-landscape.  I can't remember where I got it, it may or not be the one mentioned in the link below:

http://blog.lorrifreedman.com/index.php/2008/07/30/hdr-and-the-purple-fringe/

B)  I read about another fairly inexpensive (around 25 US bucks) plugin called PT lens while researching a lens with distortion problems at 17-18mm on the istock forum.  PT lens runs either as a filter in photoshop or stand alone, and you can zoom into the purple fringe area, and adjust sliders to modify the fringing.

I usually try to remove the fringing on a layer with a selection, so the modification only applies to the problem area.  Purple Fringe Killer is sort of automatic, there are no settings, it just runs, as opposed to PT lens which has other options and things it can accomplish.  The only downside to PT lens that I have found is it runs out of memory on a stitched panoramic of 3 tiles or more, so then "purple fringe killer" is the only choice.  Most of my purple fringing areas occur when an object intersects with a bright blue sky, like around a light pole in a parking lot, or a shiny roof edge against the sky.

Hopefully one day I can upgrade to better glass, and this problem will go away completely.

Computer Hardware / Re: Single 30" or a pair of 22"?
« on: September 08, 2009, 21:38 »
I use a 27" Dell and a 24" dell at work, and that 27" monitor provides a lot of workspace for digital mapping tasks, where I can use the 24" to display the tables and other window data.  Before it was a 24 and a 19 which seems much smaller now.  Some tasks really seem optimized for better production with dual monitors.
