Off Topic / Re: Deleting Facebook
« on: May 30, 2018, 16:07 »
I had a total of 12,012 "friends" 11,950 of them I never heard of, then they started to use My Page to sell there stuff. I said thats enough and shut it down.

It's pretty simple to just change the setting to "Disable posts by other people on the Page". They can still comment on your posts, but they can't create their own posts.

It solved the problem for me.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock referral?
« on: May 24, 2018, 12:26 »
Hi, I included a friend through a referral link he bought a $239 single project package and, a HD video of $79, but I did not have any benefit from it. Is the referral program Shutterstock working at all?

SS has 2 types of referral codes. If the referral link contains the letters "rid", this is a referral for buyers. If the referral link contains the letters "ref", this is a referral link for contributors. What type of link did your friend click on?

Also if he had visited ss on the same computer before he clicked on your referral link, ss should be able to know this from cookies and you probably won't get any referral income.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Can I make money with stock in 2018
« on: April 07, 2018, 19:10 »
After 11 years you can be positive especially after creating such a marketable port.

However, for a newbie you make it sound almost effortless.

You say that after just getting your first dslr camera which you didn't know how to use well, the reasons you got into microstock was to get published and to start making money right away.

Very often when our work is published, we remain largely anonymous as the publishers often don't give us any credit and of course we don't make money right away, I mean decent money. If just starting in microstock it takes years to make decent money.

I did however like that you showed us your first shoots and you mentioned how badly they flopped, which was bringing it back to reality.

At around 8 minutes you say " this is my passive income, I don't have to do much and the money is still coming in."

You have almost 15000 images on ss, there will be images you sent too which were never accepted, which I think you mention. As far as I know you work alone. You have done a lot of work. The point is, it is work like other jobs. You work and then receive an income. The difference is you work by your own timetable and not the timetable of a boss, but it is work none the less. I find too that my earnings will drop if I have several months of not uploading, so to keep the revenue at a high level you have to keep on working. I would say a truly passive income is putting money in shares or a high interest account.

I did enjoy your video and I'm looking forward to the next ones. Your success is well earned. Well done!

Is there a way to delete single images on 123RF but leave one to leave the account open? With obvious crooks (e.g., Depositphotos) I like to do that so that I at least have some form of record that they claim there are no more sales.

Click on upload in the footer. Then click on 5 (Manage Media) . Then click on Remove beside each image. Images can only be deleted one at a time so it's a bit of a chore.

General Stock Discussion / Re: My cow escaped

Hello fellows,

Yesterday I left the gate open and my hairy cow escaped into the bushes.

Somebody saw it?
I've just seen a few feathery chickens walk past, but no sign of your hairy cow. Will keep you posted.

We now have an agency that changes royalties without even notifying their contributors.

I've just blogged about this, the link is below. Let's spread the word!

Cant believe that this crap is still open...

What tha F...?

I can't believe it too, it's been years. I find it difficult to believe that ss couldn't put a stop to this if they contacted fiver.

I recently wrote about fiver and other sites which allow illegal downloads of our images.

20 Motivational Tips for iStock Contributors (Tongue in cheek)

if we all notify Shutterstock every time we see another site pop up we have more chance of something being done don't you think?

Yes put pressure on, always. If it is not priority for them to help protect the work you entrusted with them, make it their priority.

Wrote about this, I included fiver also which is part of the problem.

I tried to deactivate individual files and they told me no. They said they do not allow contributors to deactivate individual files because it makes for a bad client experience.

They should add to that message that a bad contributor experience is perfectly acceptable, just in case there are still people out there who don't know.

143
The security certificate expired yesterday. They just haven't noticed yet, or not a priority. ;)

@turkstockfotograf I would like to know if the staff member who responded to your request for account closure did not remind you that you would not be entitled to any payment, because you had not reached $100. I know they would not be obliged to remind you, but it would be courteous behaviour. I'm interested to know how they responded.

Yes they seem to be ordered by oldest first. My old images sell well though. Also, I don't put work I don't feel is strong into sets.

use deep meta software.

This has already been mentioned several times in this thread. Although it is best to repeat it, evidently istockers seem to be a little slow.
