HI Luis,

The LEL is a specially negotiated license. So it's not listed anywhere on the site.

Thank you very much,

Alex.

if I may add what a great negotiation ::)

p.s: don't you think it is about time to write it down on the website? can you explain us the license? if you have a minute of course ;D

Maybe ms sites should employ contributors as their chief negotiators. Luis maybe a good choice.  :)

They're getting a surge of new contributors because of the new 25 cents subscription payouts.  ;)

Crestock.com / Re: Is it Worth it?
« on: April 03, 2013, 10:13 »
A while back I emailed them an enquiry.

"If I want to take my images off Crestock, is the only way of doing this by closing my account?"

I wanted to know the procedure, I wasn't asking for the images to be removed.

The reply...

"This email is to confirm that the images which were formerly active in your portfolio have now been removed. I can leave your account active, or close it if you wish. Let me know what you prefer and I will take care of it for you."

Out of the 2 options which I wasn't expecting to have, I chose the second option.  :)

Dreamstime.com / Re: Shutterstock Keyword Service
« on: April 01, 2013, 15:32 »
Hey all,

I have been on SS for quite a long time now and have a port of around 900 images with them.  Some of them (and not the strongest ones at that) are selling well whilst some of my stronger images (from composition and aesthetic view point) have achieved one sale  in 5 years.

I think my key-wording is pretty good but still not getting the hits, also very low views compared to similar images by other photographers.

I know that SS has a key-word service for 60 cents per picture and I am considering using it for a few of my low performers.

Has anyone else used it? Any input?

Thanks in advance for any advice. :D

Are u confusing SS with DT?

Try calling them.

I had 432 social shares on the first post I wrote on the "Getty/Google flap" and 173 social shares on the 2nd post, and there were plenty of others writing. I think collectively we have made a difference.  :)

You're here coz we're making some big backend changes to the Envato Marketplaces! We'll be back in just a minute or two. Thanks very much for your patience.

I think I saw a plugin for sale in one of their marketplaces which also claimed it could make big backend changes in just a minute or two.  ;)

Questions about Editorial Licence

There are some things that I have not understood well about Editorial License

1) Can I have the same images on different stocks?
2) Can I have the same image as RF on one (or more) stock(s) and as Editorial on another?
3) If the answer to point 1 and/or 2 is yes: when an image has been sold as editorial must I  withdraw it from other sites?
4) In term of sales: does an Editorial image generally sell better, not better, as good as a RF one?
5) General earning: Better than RF? (I understand that it depends of the sales, but)
6) Can be the same Editorial image used for different publication at the same time?
7) If who buy the image as Editorial has the exclusive right on it, how much time longs this right?

And tell me more if there is something more to say.
Thanks in advance for your answers.

1) Can I have the same images on different stocks?

Yes. You can't have Alamy editorial images on microstock as Alamy editorial is RM and microstock is RF.

2) 3) Can I have the same image as RF on one (or more) stock(s) and as Editorial on another?

Editorial is royalty free also, just that they can't be used commercially, various products, posters, cards etc. So if u have the same image that falls under editorial usage on one site and it sells, and somehow you have that image to be available as a commercial image on another site, I don't think u have to withdraw the image. My images are either RF editorial or RF commercial, I don't know how the same images can be both.

4) 5) In term of sales: does an Editorial image generally sell better, not better, as good as a RF one?

From my experience most editorial images don't sell as well as commercial images, but some of them do quite well.

6) Can be the same Editorial image used for different publication at the same time?

Yes. Maybe some RM purchases can't.

7) If who buy the image as Editorial has the exclusive right on it, how much time longs this right?

Well that depends on the agreement.

We do not want to support stealing images..

That's good to hear. Incidentally, I was always curious to know the reason behind moving the watermark on images to the top left hand corner. I know the decision has been reversed now, but it was like that for months and it was the reason I removed the images I had there. Anyway, I digress..

PhotoDune / Re: PD - Most absurd rejects ever
« on: February 22, 2013, 14:36 »
PD don't have reviewers they outsource entirely asfaik, there was a thread here a long while back. I'm not saying that using reviewers from a company is entirely bad, maybe when there is a shortage, but if they use a company for all their reviewing despite giving them rules, it's not as easy to monitor.

Unbelievably low paying sales, especially bad after all their press releases saying they were going to offer something different.
The problem is that with Veer partnering with them with no opt we could well end up with our work selling there anyway, and make even less. I hate this industry sometimes.

Well that's it. I'm quite bemused by this one, as they were an advocate of high pricing when they launched, but in such a short space of time they completely reversed that. Doesn't give the impression that they had much forethought about their business.

Really?  I'm amazed.  You're the first I've ever heard of.

Don't forget who you are now ;)

Vacation only in keywords, I still use holiday in real life, but not in keywords. However the date thing is really good and I use it now both written and spoken. February 20, 2013. There are some more Americanisms I use too, I just choose what I like and feel comfortable with.

@ rjaxon:

Congratulations and well done for figuring out the copyright issues were in the keywords.  It's a shame they don't have a specific rejection reason to tell you that, as it would have saved you a lot of time and concern.

I also get frustrated with the 'holiday' issue.  Here in the UK, a 'holiday' is a trip to somewhere for a break, as you say.  I've never heard a person who learned UK-English use the word 'vacation'.  Not once.  (Although the media here started using that horrible term 'staycation' last year - which made no sense at all... linguistic logic dictates that on these shores it should be a 'stoliday'!  LOL)

In keywording I use both 'holiday' and 'vacation' - given that much of the English-speaking world still speaks UK-English (as opposed to American-English).  Best to appeal to the whole audience, I think.

I just use the word vacation now and I write dates the American way. I've been Americanized by microstock (largely ss). I even think they're the greatest nation on earth, oh wait a minute, they haven't quite got me on that one yet. :)

Congrats rjaxon, smart of you to figure out it was a keyword issue.

I lost productivity the last few days cus of this incident. Spending way too much time on msg!

:D +1

When Sean started the thread on IS, I was shocked not only because of the deal but the direct approach taken by Sean. I thought wow he's playing with fire, but he instantly got my respect. This was a deal too far (I'm sure there will be more to come) and Sean went out to defend/save his images, by exposing it. When I saw this thread on msg I was shocked, but not hugely. I think the Stocksy thing might become the excuse for their actions but the real reason I think is that they felt threatened by such a large figure (someone who has sway with the others) outright condemning their actions, and it also must have seemed to them that he was the spark that ignited the fire (the revolt, albeit mini one). I think Getty actually felt the situation was a threat and for them, in their eyes, the advantages of letting him go overtook the disadvantages. They did feel threatened though and I don't think that happens to them often.

Mostphotos.com / Re: Opt-out at Mostphotos
« on: February 14, 2013, 07:57 »
I've just started uploading to Mostphotos but want to opt-out of the subscription plan.  At Settings->Contributions I deselect "I want to sell my images through the Monthly package service." and click "update".  But when I leave the page and come back it's selected again. Anyone else has the same option? I contacted the support but they haven't answered yet.

Did they reply? I noticed my images are not opted out of subscriptions also, even though my setting has always had the 'monthly package option' deselected. I clicked update settings anyway to see if it jolted the images back to opt out, but they're still opted in.  ???

Apparently some sort of statement is going to be released later today. No idea from who exactly. Lobo just says on the forum that something will be posted later.

Can't wait to see what that's all about.
