I work a full time job and then spend about 2 hours on microstock a night. Uploading to CanStock takes about 30 seconds of those two hours. So far in the first 10 days of Feb, they earned me $143, or about 6.5% of my total microstock revenue for the past ten days. Yes, it's a small percent, but it's not chump change for spending an extra 30 seconds uploading each night. Oh, and now we're talking about flooding the market? Then we should all give up microstock completely if that's the overriding concern.
Wow, you must be the CEO there

There won't be mass boycott unless something really drastic happens. Like if they do major commission cut. What is probably already happening is that top contributors are looking for other sources of income because they can see this is becoming less sustainable and are getting scared. Mid-level hobbyists are already backing off uploading because it's becoming a waste of time. And snaptshooters don't care and will continue uploading sunsets.
After enough of these negative changes happen good content supply will drop and sites will be left with stale content and new apples/handshakes/trees. It may take a year or two but what happens when micro buyers only have stale images and snapshots to choose from? Aren't they already complaining about that?
So you think that 20% is not a drastic cut?

Hi everyone, The last time we talked about this issue, a few of us said that we are for a Co-op site and some of us are even willing to put some money into that project, if necessary. Talk is cheap. I don't think we are ready yet for such a business. At that time, I thought about Jonathan and I thought that he is the best person to set such a company up, but now I can see that he is very busy with his business. Also, why would he go against himself? Gostwick and Lisa have some good points, but again who is going to step forward? Regards Kone

Which category must choose for illustrations? I have anatomy illustration, may I choose 2 categories: "illustrations/clipart" and ""Healthcare/medical"? Please, answer as soon as possible, because I want to finish aplication.
You must check "Illustration", and one of two categories must be "illustrations".

The agencies need to keep microstock sustainable for the contributors if they want to keep us motivated to produce great images!
Ditto... ditto... a billion times ditto...
Yes you are right... But I dont think they do

I have 3 batteries for my DSLR. I dont do alot of shooting either (probably one photoshoot/week), but I like making sure I have plenty of battery power. My general rule of thumb is to recharge once a battery falls below 40%, and I recharge as soon as I return from a photoshoot, otherwise I might forget and find myself with dead batteries for my next photoshoot. Incidentally I've found non-OEM batteries to be pretty much as good as OEM's these days and cost alot less.
Looks like you are doing it right. Check this web site: http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteriesHowever, I do not do what the above website suggests. I have a Nikon D700 and two Li-Ion Batteries, 1500mAh. I recharge them when my camera gives me a warning. I read somewhere that following the camera's warning is best for the batteries. The battery life is much longer now then when they was purchased. I can take 1300-1500 images with one battery on a single charge. The last vacation I went on, I did not even use a second battery and I took well over 1800 images with the one battery only.

I am wondering what you take along on a shoot in terms of gear that isn't a camera, lens or memory card.
Flash (SB 800)

Kone: No They Don't!
Why does this erroneous claim keep making the rounds. Are you reading that self centered guru David K's claims? He's so full of himself he can't see past his own nose.
If you upload a file and the server fails, you can get a partial fail. If you upload and undersized image, you can get a partial fail.
If you have 1 photo or 7 batches of uploads, waiting for QC, and one photo fails, everything waiting will fail. It hasn't changed.
donding: One Fail all fail, and there's a reason.
Okay, you might be right, but this is my experience (I had couple times "partially passed inspection"). I don't understand why would one upload a smaller size of image if know what size is required. My acceptance is almost 100% so maybe I am not right person to comment on this.

I haven't uploaded to them in ages. Been there since 2007 and always had trouble with their "up-sizing" policy. I got 64 photos there and got $32.00 in sales from 07 til now.
Do you know if they still reject the whole batch if one is bad or have they renewed their ways? That always irritated the crap out of me.
Now they have something like "Partially past inspection", so if one of the images does have a problem the batch is accepted but the image has to be re-uploaded or ignored.

But again, there is such a small number of us that want to do the right thing and leave.
Fair enough, but following this forum for a couple of years doesn't make me think that moving elsewhere would be morally any better. There are regular complaints about the other micros, though the current iStock shenanigans trump everything that's gone before. A lot of the agencies which start up promising a fairer deal for the photographer either don't deliver with sales (60% of nothing is less than 10% of something) or fold very quickly. Aren't bulk discounts the norm in business? Even before the revelation of these 70c/credit sales on iStock, deep bulk discounts were in force. Rightly or wrongly, that's how business works. Seems the other micros work the same way.
You are absolutely right, they are all the same.

Am I wrong?
Nope! Personally I don't submit to new sites. Make couple exceptions and those are mistakes, I tried CC and DP, I like CC commitions and DP had aggressive start. I still have portfolio on CC but I am done with DP. Usually they are waste of your time as I can see.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started offering free credits to buyers who've bailed before the end of next year. "We missed you. In fact, we missed you so much we want you to give us another try and we've stuck 1,000 free credits in your account to tempt you back." Of course, it costs them absolutely nothing to do this, while it costs us dearly. Perhaps, they benefit

IS does run "sales", up to 25% off credit prices (or even 30%?), which would shift the cost down to around there anyways. Frankly, if they want to discount, or offer sales, it should come out of their pocket. I don't see why we should have to eat their decisions.
Well, you know, it doesn't work that way, does it?
