Dreamstime.com / Re: Money gone from my account
« on: November 11, 2014, 23:16 »
sometimes that can happen because a customer buys your image then makes some lame excuse afterward and wants their money back. Happens all the time. I am sure they have downloaded it by that time and gotten it for free. But in anycase DT will take the money back out of your account.

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT Review Madness
« on: November 11, 2014, 23:07 »
I know everyone hates whiners... but....I have been on DT since 2006. I don't know what is wrong with reviewing lately but if you have the same model ( in different clothing doing different poses) more than 2-3 times they reject for similarities. I got rejected very beautiful images of waterfalls and lakes and mountains in colorado because "this is well covered already". I got several rejected for that reason.. so I went on DT boards saying please make it public what you have too many of so I am not wasting my time trying to get a great shot on something that has no chance of being uploaded.. They closed the thread and erased my comment. My husband told me they would do that before I left the comment because it is negative.
He got a reject for his image being so good that he needs to upload more images in a group like that image. Who has ever heard of that reject? I hate getting rejects saying I have too many of that subject when I only uploaded 2-3. Really?
I also asked if their reviewers had quality control and were checked on for improvement because obviously some reviewers do not like anything religious.. those images always get rejects no matter what they are... If it is a good image.. accept it right?  Ive had things rejected... reloaded it.. . it was accepted.. for it to sell in a matter of a few days. None of their reviewers are trained the same to look for and what not to reject. I was a reviewer for about 4 years for a couple of microstock companies and I know how it works.
 Just had to vent.... sorry

Yeah.. I wont make that mistake again.. Alot of my files were from so long ago.. I have not uploaded there for a long time.

Adobe Stock / Re: exclusive at fotolia ?
« on: November 07, 2011, 22:17 »
Dreamstime has better sales. They give you .20 per image when you sign up.. as if you just uploaded them.. You get 60% of your sales. So you get paid to upload images.
I am going exclusive with Dreamstime if Fotolia ever deletes my images.. ugghhh! Then I will be getting my bonus for going exclusive! Cant wait!~

Do I need to post to every forum they have.. how many messages should I send to them before they will take off my images?  OK.. Its been over a week Fotolia.. I have posted in your forums send several messages. This for me is very important you remove my images. . I have been doing some myself but I have like 600 to go. It would only take you like 1 second of your time to make me happy and leave you alone.

Why are you leaving?  I noticed that you have no images on any of the other sites.

I am going exclusive to Dreamstime. After reviewing for a particular company for the last 3-4 years, without notice they let me go for the stupidest reasons (not enough communication Hello! I have nothing to say because I know what I am doing.. do you want to talk about the weather? ha )
Soooo anyway.. I make the most at Dreamstime.. I might as well get paid for uploading each image plus get a way bigger percentage. Now I will have more time to add to my portfolio.

32
I am thinking really? A week went by and no one responds to me about removing my images?? All the other companies responded to me in some way by the 3rd day. I have messaged them twice.
Why do I have to go through my images myself and remove them individually? Really???  At this rate I will get them all off before they respond to me.
PLUS.. they had some as free images but was when they had it as the 18 months deal not 5 years.. I better get ALL my images off... because the 18 months was up along time ago.

if  they're  acceptable  on  BigStock  would  they  be  acceptable  on  SS?

It seems that for now the two sites are still running as individual entities, so I would think that they still have different reviewers.

Just a guess...
Every agency has their own guidelines for reviewing it seems. New reviewers VS. seasoned reviewers makes a difference I believe.
If a picture is good and there are no technical problems and good compositions no matter if a reviewer likes it, it should be passed. There are some things reviewers are not to pass because the agency is too flooded with that subject and again, all agencies are different on what those things are.

I agree with leaf, I do not think that it is saturated and I too think alot of people do not realize what microstock photography is.
Sure there are new contributors all the time but it doesn't mean all their images are accepted. Their images have to live up to the guidelines and alot of the newbies get alot declined till they get the hang of what the agency wants and expects from their images.

35
Alot of agencies tell reviewers.. to reject certain things and for instance.. dont accept any images of dogs, cats, blue sky's, flowers, dull pics of trees, etc...
But if the pictures is extra extraordinary then it will more than likely be accepted.
There are times a person might have many pics of flowers.. you reject all of them except maybe there is ONE that was REALLY good and would stand out in a crowd.. so it is accepted

Sometimes it is due to new inspectors or people that inspect that are not careful enough.

I dont know, we have done weddings and have had great experiences doing them. No one barking orders and no one refusing to pay (as they normally have already paid before the ceremony had started) It is stressful but with 2 photographers, we don't have any problems really.
I think it is all about what you have patience for and what fits what you want to do. Goes the same for the pay. You will get paid what you demand. We this year raised our prices on our packages again this summer. It is amazing how much people will pay. There is never going to be a decline in photography as long as people get married and graduate. These are too important for people to let pass up to keep photo memories and they want them professional and not snapshots.. so they will pay the price. Your website makes a great bit of difference. It is amazing what marketing techniques work.
Marketing is a big difference in success. It makes the difference in a low generating income studio to a very sucessful studio unless you have been in the same place for 20-30 years and established a name before websites were so important. Word of mouth also is a great advertisement.. maybe one of the best next to "the website". You are just fooling yourself if you say "studio's cant make that much money". You are wrong. There is potential for any great photographer with the know how.

By the way.. I read someone said kids have to go to school. Well, they come at all times and skip school to get their pictures taken.. and the parent sometimes takes off work as well so they can come too because they want to watch.  It is more than just getting your pictures taken.. it is a life time experience. Over 20 years ago.. my parents paid ALOT of money to get mine done and I remember everything about it. It was an important thing to me. To a senior and their parent.. it is an exciting experience. I always talk alot to the moms and dads and they just talk about they cant believe they are a senior and time has went so fast.. they talk about when their child was small and reminisce about them. The parents always tell us how much fun they had too. They sometimes bring their entire family.  The other day, this senior had brought 2 friends, a cousin, her mom and then afterwards I was told that the friends were going to be calling to make appointments with us and so was another family member. They not only will spend ALOT of money because they had a great time and the pics were good.. they are out telling everyone about us and how much fun it was. Creating a good experience means generating a higher income.

Why is it no one understands how much money a successful studio can make? I am surprised. Does anyone not own a studio with a store front on here? If you talk to a owner of a studio that is busy, they tell you that their studio brings in way more than $50-60 Thousand a year. If you only brought in that, how do you pay your overhead and rent? If they do tell you that, they are doing something wrong or are new to the business and just starting out. It does take time to build your studio up though.

Those totals you are finding on the internet are not correct and is not for a successful studio. Have you went to any professional portrait photography conferences?  You will find alot of photographers that are successful and really busy and rake in a six to seven figure salary, depending on the line of work and the demand for the work.  Yes even in Kansas City. There is alot of business out there for a photographer to gain if they market the correct way.
It is all up to you and where do you want to be? It takes alot of hard work and determination. But if you are good at what you do ~ you could do the same as them. Marketing is the key.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Model Releases - Watch Out.
« on: August 30, 2009, 22:17 »
Actually all the agencies have this policy. It just depends on the inspector if they look close enough and take time to read everyones MR. Usually you look and make sure everything is filled out but it could be missed as everyones MR look differently.

39
I dont even go to the forums on the agencies anymore.. that is what is so great about this site. They can not monitor what we say.
Who wants to be banned for asking simple questions or wanting to know an answer.. ha How silly.
I have been in trouble on Crestock before. Of course if they banned me,,, no harm done. HA

I think all the agencies should get together and agree to drop the subscriptions. They would all make more money and so would we. Buyers are going to buy images even without the subscriptions.

40
Just wondering what the norm is for Crestock these days. We got one that took a month from request to recieving our payout.

Article about photographer being arrested for being too tall. Some one felt threatened when they had their picture taken because the man was 5′ 11″.

What is this world coming to? what

« on: July 17, 2009, 22:49 »
after I thought about it.. I imagine Yuri's videos are not done free. Crestock has to pay him for them.. right?

well if he is getting paid and they dont care what he does them about.. He just got paid for showing objects with wheels and him skateboarding through his greenhouse studio laughing all the way to the bank. LOL

Why prep for a lengthy video that you would actually teach someone something useful?

44
I just don't understand why they dont try to do better and communicate with their submitters like the others do. All I see is videos from Yuri by Crestock. I imagine they pay him well for them. I dont understand the point of them or why they would pay Yuri to do them. I think their money would be better spent on someone answering emails and doing customer service.

Bigstock.com / Re: New Upload Limits at BigStockPhoto
« on: July 17, 2009, 00:08 »
I think that it was a good move on BS. There are so many people uploading that dont even have SLR cameras and hundreds of people thinking that stock photography is simple & anyone can do it to make a easy penny.
There is ALOT of bad images submitted everyday in huge masive amounts and takes up a big huge amount of time for reviewers and money to approve them when something like this can be set into place.
If it were your company and you had to pay for each image to be reviewed, you would think it was a good idea as well.

It speeds up review times and the overall quality of images on BS will improve because people will be more picky on what they are uploading.

GOOD JOB BS!

Bigstock.com / Re: New keyword rejection from BigStock
« on: July 16, 2009, 23:57 »
Sometimes a person might have things in their title/description/keywords that does not describe the image. Sometimes it is totally off subject.
For instance it is a simple picture of a woman with a  computer.... Some people put in the title  computer and then also have numbers that probably belong to the file name. File name numbers should not be in the title. SomIt should describe the image.

Sometimes you might have a picture of a poloraid picture... blank.. and it will have it in the title/description/ and keywords.
The reviewer has to remove that word for copyrights because Poloroid is a brand name. That submitter might have 5-20 images with that in it. It makes sense to return it back to their cue so they may revise it and then it is not rejected and go against their acceptance ratio.

Also names of people and any copyrighted type of name or word should not be in it as well.
Reviewers do make mistakes. It doesnt hurt to ask if there is totally nothing wrong with your data included with your image.

You know I guess I had given up thinking that Crestock has put their head in the sand and does not address their members needs and wants or even answer any questions anymore.
No one knows who the staff is anymore.
I really think that the company had good potential and at one time seemed to be doing great but they have changed in a negative way.
Everyone is pretty hard on them and it seems that they would try to change everyone's attitude and want people to be proud to be a part of their agency.
I have not given up on them. I have not submitted to them in a long time though.
Kinda been sitting on the sidelines and waiting to see what happens.

Here is the executive manager of Crestock's portfolio. it looks like he has cleaned up his own portfolio. He used to have some really BAD shots in it but I see they are gone.
