An attempt (feeble??) to translate into French:
i) Vous ne devez pas acheter vos propres images (sauf de temps en temps et, dans ce cas, seulement pour les buts cratifs lgitimes) ii) Vous ne devez pas acheter principalement les images de seulement quelques collaborateurs. C'est clair? Sinon ... excusez-moi 228
General Stock Discussion / Re: What do you hate?« on: May 26, 2008, 03:09 »
I didn't put in categorizing images as a separate choice as I felt that was all part of uploading. What's more, it varies from site to site. Some have complicated systems - which are so annoying because they're usually incomplete. There's just no category for the photo you're working on. Bigstock is one of the worst with that. Others don't require categories at all.
I also didn't include disambiguating as a separate choice because that's unique to iStock. (Is it? I don't know of any other agency that requires it.) I felt that it was also under 'Uploading'. Tell you what .... I've added another choice 'Other things' and maybe, if people choose it, they can say what their 'other' is in a post. 229

Mine's a Bateleur, which is a sort of African eagle that I love. Amazing birds - they spend pretty much all day on the wing, gliding effortlessly using the air currents.

General Stock Discussion / Re: What do you hate?« on: May 26, 2008, 00:22 »
Ah-ha! Trying to sneak in a 'I hate rejections? are you? Gotcha! Yeah, you can add all sorts of qualifiers ... "I hate taking photos when I've got the white balance on the wrong setting". We're dealing with broad areas here. I hate keywording (even though I'm also a writer). Sends me to sleep. And I don't much like filing and record-keeping. I'm not a bookkeeper. 231
General Stock Discussion / Re: What do you hate?« on: May 25, 2008, 17:16 »Can you add fixed price subscription ? No. Because it is not something you do as part of your work selling through microstocks (I'm assuming you are a photographer who does that, of course). 232
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is country name a trademark?« on: May 25, 2008, 16:51 »
Because if you don't it gets rejected. It's their call. They don't have to sell anyone's photos if they don't want to. 233
General Stock Discussion / What do you hate?« on: May 25, 2008, 16:46 »
Even though they may be doing a job they love, most people will hate (or, at least, actively dislike) some part of it.
What do you hate about selling your photographs through the microstocks? Note: I am only referring to things you do as a photographer. That's why there isn't, for example, an option for 'Getting rejections'. Everyone has 2 votes - for those who hate more than one bit of it . 234

Yes ... and I think the reason why was because, with the exception of the first option, all the others were 'loaded'. Okay, a few people have answered them because this is anonymous, and they may possibly have done it from perversity. But how many people would admit, face to face with a pollster, that they are tight with their money, or don't believe economically depressed people deserve a $25 loan, etc.? Unfortunately, although the original poster said it wasn't intended to make people feel guilty over not becoming Premium Members, that's how it came over. 235

1) Yes, occasionally. Mostly for landscape shots where there is too much contrast between the land and sky. However, I've also started using a graduated ND filter now, and that gives better results. Trouble is, you have to lug a variety of filters and a holder around. 2) No rejections due to ghosting (my shots with this technique are almost all static landscapes) 3) Fred Miranda's DRI Pro 237

General Stock Discussion / Re: Panoramas« on: May 24, 2008, 09:08 »
I've found most sites accept them if they're done well enough (i.e. no obvious joins or differences between the individual photographs).
I've sold a few, including one to a local magazine, but they're a rather specialised area. Most people seem to want them as banners across the top/bottom of pages, and there isn't so much of a market for that. 239
General Stock Discussion / Re: Tips on submitting to Alamy?« on: May 24, 2008, 09:05 »
Look out for dust spots - they hammer you for that, rejecting your entire submission if a spot (or hair, or whatever) is found on just one photo in the batch.
Be ready for a very slow and painful keywording process. If you thought iStock's was bad you ain't seen nothing yet. 240

What a strange and ... I must admit ... slightly unpleasant poll with mostly negative options.
There must be a whole mass of reasons why an individual does not become a premium member. What's the purpose of this poll? 241
iStockPhoto.com / Re: too feathered or too rough rejection« on: May 23, 2008, 04:51 »
I wouldn't waste time worrying about it.
I shot a whole sequence of holly leaves against a pure, blown white background. Camera, lights, the lot, all stayed in the same position, same settings. All I did was take one bunch of holly out of the holder and replace it with another. All accepted on SS, and elsewhere. About 50% rejected at IS for 'poor isolation'. I think some of their inspectors have eyesight problems. 242

Sounded great, and I could pay by using some of that loot accumulating in PayPal.
So I looked to see about ordering some Nikon stuff, and ... "Please note that Nikon products may not be shipped out of the U.S.A. ..." 243

Who cares about the name?
They could have a slight problem with the logo (my wife looked at it and thought the company was called 'Yoy") but they have a beautifully easy upload process and are very responsive. I've normally avoided the start-ups. But I must admit that this one has a good feeling to it, together with a very clean web site and the facility for editorial photographs. I've joined. 244
Bigstock.com / Re: Is anyone have sucess selling image on bigstock.« on: May 21, 2008, 02:40 »for me it isn't doing great, but it's ok. Similar to Fotolia and to 123rf. Much better than crestock or featurepics (or LO). Same here. I get a slow, small, but steady income from them. I agree they have some daft rejection reasons. I submitted an image of the sun behind clouds with rays spreading out in a beautiful fan and a huge, distant flock of birds across one side. The rejected it. Reason, "... sky full of sensor dust." I can't be bothered to argue (or zap every bird. I'm a conservationist). The image does moderately well on other sites. 245
General Stock Discussion / Re: what??? What should I do?« on: May 19, 2008, 06:59 »
Yes, he's allowed to have them on his web sites. But he's not allowed to claim they are his own, and representative of his photography (which is what he did on the first site). And on the second site he appears to be renting other peoples' images to companies, to decorate their walls with. Is he allowed to do that with stock? 246

Yes. It's been going on all weekend. You can't manage your images, either.
There's a thread about it on the Alamy forum too. I hope they'll fix it when Monday comes around. 247

He also sells from a street market in London ...
You can also see and purchase a selection of our work on Saturdays and Sundays at our stall in the Northcote Road market, London SW11, nearest BR Clapham Junction, nearest tube Clapham South. The stall is between Bennerley and Mallinson Road by The Lola Spanish restaurant. Anybody live in the area? Check out what ripped-off stuff he's selling from his stall, too. Maybe even go down there mob-handed and do him over Just joking (or was I?) 250
