Illustration - General / Re: iStock Illustrators
« on: February 07, 2011, 22:20 »
I experienced in the last 32 month as Vector illustrator, 3D-Illustrator and as Photographer, independent.
My Opinion is, just an opinion, if someone sells good as Illustrator at Istock, he should going on. It takes a lot more time and a lot more of afford and "time" to get the same earnings, anyway by the number of agencies you try. But!!! If your Illustrations are good enough for Istock and you sell well...why don't you grow up to Macro?
I've done some Illustrations for Microstock, but even if they sell good for a Vector Illustration, where's the joke?
Some rubbish done 3d pictures sell more, build in a tenth of the time.
My hint, as an illustrator at IS, don't go deeper to Micro...step up to Macro. They will welcome you, more than you expect.

Did you open this thread to help yourself by getting some emotional support or to promote your pictures?
Anyway, without knowing your numbers...it seems to be a good idea to communicate if the downloads are not as good as expected.
I wil also try in future if I had the time between my other jobs.

Best regards.

Hi all,
did anyone notice a change in the behaviour of the FT sales? I sell more and more image from the past. All my bestsellers are selling more than estimated and more than usual. But new pictures are laying at the bottom. My Income is okay, but...this "feels" like a change in FT policy I would like to verify/ discuss.
Also my Images with smaller prices doesnt't come up. It seems like the "Price" gets more relevance in the searchengine in last time. Maybe I'm wrong. I just want to find out.

Thank's for any response at this.
Palaver

What brings us back to the question: why Istock and others abuse the horse they're riding on?

107
Anyway it's an interesting idea to take back the money from the constributors. They take 84% of the salesincome for taking care of the whole businessexecution....if someone robs my bank, the bank wouldn't come to the idea to cut my money from the savings.

108
Got the same just some Minutes ago. As someone said in December when this fraud happend: "My images seems even not worth to be stolen *snief*".
Okay, so i can say I'm in the club and some of my Images seemes to be worth to be stolen :-)

StockXpert.com / Re: Thinkstock earnings posted
« on: February 01, 2011, 12:47 »
I see todays-earnings also, but the pictures who should have sold looks more like pictures from last year....there're halloween and Christmas related pictures in the bunch.
...and nobody should try to tell me that this is the whole earning since November...but i expect this is what thinkstock think to tell us.

What did you expect? It's january - any january FT cuts comissions...and/or raise levels. That's their normal behavior.

DT was going down since 5 months to me. May is the first who's better than the last month. I think in the long run...5 months going down is on the edge to have a better look on what happens there.
To my surprise, i sold less images in may than in march (so this means furthermore a "down"), but i sold at much higher prices than the months ago - means, more or most pictures at a high ranking and at higher resolution.

No idea what's the meaning of this, i will wait some month more to find out. My gut instinct say: there's something in disorder.

In springtime a delay seems to be normal (maybe taxes to pay). Elsewhere it is fast (some days up to 1 week).

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia exclusives opted out of subs?
« on: April 17, 2010, 19:17 »
well, it's not that unusual to think about getting exclusiv at FT. If someone have a good acceptance ratio. FT sells better and better in the last years. Im on since 22 month. If I would go exclusive i would double my income and would win a lot of time uploading elsewhere.
But, the reason why i don't go this easy way is: It seems to be to risky to me (just my opinion). FT behave not trustworthy to me. Every year (springtime) they reduce constributors income. Also they enlarge sales, what is complimented. And FT was and is still my best earner.
Maybe I'm stupid, disclaiming the more profit i could get. But FT doesn't give me the feeling of beeing save and sound.
Just by numbers, it's stupid for me to upload and develop portfolios elsewhere.

114
uploading since 22 month, 2.300 $ earnings last month. Don't see any problem to increase earnings.
Still learning.

115
still nothing at Stockexpert/thinkstock. BME at FT/SS/IST in March. DRE anymore went down!.

Adobe Stock / Re: payment delay
« on: March 29, 2010, 22:05 »
informed support at 27th (after 24 days waiting) , get paid 29th (moneybookers)....now pending - double amount than last time, maybe i should contact support just at same time as i request payout?

117
The most funniest thing on this mountain analogy is - if reaching the top of the everest would be paid by monthly living costs....tibet would be full of barefooted, frostbitten idiots.

Waiting also since 02.03 (moneybookers)...i think fotolia is paying taxes out of running business, so constributors have to wait. Last year there was a payment problem at nearly the same time.

119
so, let me ask: can I make a living from selling used cars, can I make a living out of selling insurances, can I make a living out of selling everything...maybe the question should be...can i make me a living?

As allways there's one answer, you can...if you want, if you try and if you agree to learn, fight, struggle, stand up and target. Selling insurances is easier for one who have talent on this. But some haven't the choise.

120
I would say: the topic is wrong or the constributions. The author asked if "he" can make a living out of microstock.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Yuri admits he's losing money !
« on: February 28, 2010, 14:10 »
It's commonly understood that RPI means Revenue per Image per Month.
You calculate it on a monthly basis by dividing income by portfolio size for each agency you contribute to, then sum up the individual RPIs to get your gross RPI.
RPI is a general measure of the income potential of your imagery, and does not take into account production costs.

I have no idea what you mean by "a sales volume p.P." - sounds like you made up this term by yourself.

This make no sense to me. If i reduce all not best selling Images at any agency i will get a higher RPI but less income. So what helps me to measure my RPI? I measure things like earning p. Image/Earning p. Sale/and some more.

« on: February 27, 2010, 23:50 »
After reading the bad news from Yuri i made some calculations and found out...there's no way to discuss the numbers without knowing how he comes to his conclusions. Did he meant a profit of $3 or 4,5 after rent, equipment, etc. and taxes or did he meant a sales volume p.P. ?

At the moment i found out i have a sales volume of more than 5$ p.P. without any deductions.

 ;D

starting a race on a dead horse is always a bit difficult, to argue why somebody should sit on this horse is more difficult, to realize who is sitting on this dead horse is most difficult.

Hi Madelaide,
your translation is near by, any german speaking people would have understand what you liked to say. The correction from redo is correct. If you would like to say it less formaly (in direct translation) by using "Du" (="Dir" in this case) it can be written this way:

Goldene Christbaumkugel mit goldenem Band.
Der enthalte Mustertext kann gendert werden, ebenso die Schriftart und -gre.
