Adobe Stock / Re: I am so sick of Fotolia rejects..
« on: April 04, 2009, 19:03 »
Don't get upset it's not worth the stress levels and harm it does to you, spread your work around! I get joy seeing somebody like FT reject an image and that day it sells at SS  8)

Sure I missed out on 0.30c but they missed out on much more  ;D

I also have had no sales at CC BUT! I have only been at it a month with John and have a port of some 600 images, when I first started, John sent me an email welcoming me and asking a bit about myself, I was floored by this as stocks just don't take the time to do that, he has communicated again with me and once again it was chatty and genuine conversation.

John does have a very large hill to climb, his task will be easier if he has an inventory of good quality images, so I for one will continue to upload to him after all the system of upload is not a lot of work especially if you keyword off site.

This is one stock agency I would like to see fly, not just because I have images there but I believe his model is equitable for contributors and buyers alike.

I think some of my older images are now seeing about 3 views which does not make me believe I will get sales any time soon, but who knows you have to be in it to win it.

Well done John

123RF / Sales and reviews
« on: March 30, 2009, 23:55 »
I guess some people most be making sales at 123RF but not me, 4 for March and reviews seem ultra slow with no activity in the forums! not good signs for what is meant to be one of the big 6! what is going on?

Add my voice to the FT craziness  ::) they seem to run hot and cold or there is a reviewer out of step with others, I just had a batch hit, in it were images taken on the same background and setup just the object changed yet I got rejections for aesthetic level of quality, most times it makes no sense especially when 9 other agencies approve the same image including IS which people deem to be the toughest to work with.

4. "159 images"
David, I just took a look at your images. You had 50 images approved until February 9th, 2009. It can take more than 159 images, uploaded within a few weeks, to get a feeling how well PantherMedia is performing for you so you should give it a little bit time.

I could upload 500 but until the keywording and categories is more in tune with the 'Industry' I just don't have the patience, also to date on 159 images I have had some 42 clicks in stock since 20/01/2009! (3 MONTHS) these 159 are best sellers with other agencies so I can't believe they are that bad.

But your right I am not prepared to give PM away, I'll be patient and see what happens.

Panthermedia does things unique to themselves! maybe it's a German thing  :-\ you can only put images in the photocommunity on the basis of two per day.

The photocommunity allows other contributors to make comment on your image and rate it, this I think has some reflection to its position in the search engine, but that's about all! I think from PM point of view it allows you to get critique on your photos.

The stock side of things works like everywhere else buyers search, view and buy although in my case don't buy, I have 159 images there since mid January and had 30 clicks! those 159 images are my sellers from other sites so I don't think PM and I are going to have a commercial relationship, also their process for keywords is tottally different to everywhere else so IPTC key wording does not work.

Given that your image is in the community means it is also in the stock so you had a win with your email

iStockPhoto.com / Re: IS! credit where credit is due!
« on: March 07, 2009, 03:36 »
It's a good agency but not the only agency in town! I'm sure they don't have 100% of the worlds buyers and that's why you should spread yourself around...

They have massive server problems at times and given their size they could loosen the purse strings a bit more and if your non exclusive then being limited to only 15 images a week or longer is not productive for an active photographer.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS rejections explosion!!!
« on: March 06, 2009, 20:43 »
Well I am only new to this business started last August and singularly with IS getting accepted was easy but then they rejected the acceptance images! anyway like many I worked diligently getting my 15 ready for the next 2 weeks of reviews getting rejections trying to understand why, I still don't know what too feathered or rough means...

At one stage I was just going to give the whole thing away and sell the camera.

I've got 300 at IS now and just over 50% acceptance with a couple of hundred sold but around December I found a whole heap of new agencies being the top 6, SS was the first from IS so I uploaded my port to them and got a few rejections that IS accepted and so the story went as related here, I soon learnt that a rejection is not a cause of concern unless 10 agencies reject it then you know it's crap.

So whilst I have 300 at IS I have 421 at SS and I have never found SS over the top with their rejections like elsewhere the subjective element of the reviewer comes into play and he hunts for a suitable reason to cover his "I don't like it" feeling, it gets approved elsewhere and more often than not gets a sale or two so who misses out?

I like SS it has the highest sales volumes for me 552 at the time of writing this I just wish they would pay more as IS is ahead on the revenue even though they have a 6 month head start.

123RF / Re: 123RF uploads FAILED
« on: March 02, 2009, 03:28 »
Personally I find 123RF a joy I have uploaded nearly 500 images in the past 5 weeks and they have never missed a beat for me, wish the sales were better but that's another story.
