It's good that we can laugh about it...either that or we have already hit insanity.

I think I have 6. Only know who one of them is. I really don't care. That person never even comes on here any more but is still a member. The problem is when you say something others don't agree with it or know they are guilty of, it always hits a nerve and they hit ignore.

Lisa I'm shocked that you have so many. You are a presence on this forum and a lot of the new comers don't quite understand the discussions that sometimes occur here.

If you want to listen to the truth and have an hour and a half to do it...this is what you should watch. A fellow journalist and photographer has the pictures and the death numbers are much higher than previously stated.

from The Christian Science Monitor:

As gas prices rise, should US oil industry stop exporting?

US gas prices are soaring and domestic demand is falling. The oil industry says it needs to export to stay in business and avoid layoffs. Others claim that keeps supply low and gas prices high.
At the same time that the price of gasoline is rising, the US oil industry is increasing its exports of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Compared to a year ago, exports of gasoline have tripled at a time when the price of gasoline is 42 cents a gallon more expensive at the pump. On Thursday, for example, the price of crude oil remained elevated at $107 a barrel because of fears over the Iranian nuclear situation, and the price of gasoline rose 3 cents a gallon compared to Wednesday, according to AAA.

Thanks for posting that Etien.  I had absolutely no idea US oil companies were increasing EXPORTS of gasoline.  I watch the news every day and not a peep about it.

It seems to me one of the republican presidential hopefuls mentioned it in one of the debates. I'm thinking it was either Newt Gingrich or Ron Paul.

« on: March 09, 2012, 16:06 »
I've got sales from Oct and Nov of last year. The Oct one just cleared about two weeks ago but the one from Nov is still pending. I think that is a bit long to be sitting in the pending pot. That's 3 1/2 months ago. I'm hoping maybe the end of this month it will finally clear. But I'm afraid if I hold my breath I might die...lol

Image Sleuth / Re: Small Claims for Copyright in the US?
« on: February 22, 2012, 18:02 »
If I'm not mistaken, even if you prove your case in small claims court and win, the court does not handle the collecting of any monies you are due. That is the individual's responsibility. So unless they change that, having a court case and winning is virtually useless.

And if the award is substantial, then all they do is declare bankruptcy, then you never collect. So sometimes it's fruitless.

STUPID QUESTION!!! what the heck is the verification word?? Is it your user name or what? My keeps saying you "ERROR: The verification word does not match the image. Please try again." even though I use my user name...Big Stock was easy.
I had to open a PDF document that contained my password. It's not your account password.
There was link right underneath where I had to open the PDF to get to the password.

Thanks so much...I opened that PDF document and wondered why there was some strange word in there...I didn't realize that was the verification word. I got it now and thanks again.

Do away with all the crawly stock sites that seem to take forever to hit payout....like iSTOCK!! Probably the only one I'll keep is Shutterstock because it is making three to four times as much as iStock or Dreamstime. So tired of all the BS...it's not even fun or enjoyable any more. Haven't even picked up the camera since October. Just doesn't seem worth it anymore.

138
It didn't find any shots from the cameras I've been using for the last six years and there must be thousands of them on the net. A google image search does much better.

It may only work on the newer model camera's and the ones that are registered with the company. I know I've never registered any of my camera's and I'm on my third one.

Print on Demand Forum / Re: zazzle forum down?
« on: December 06, 2011, 18:16 »
I logged on using another computer in another location, and was able to see the forum.  All my posts have been removed and I can't make new ones.  Apparently some negative comments I made on Friday caused someone to ban me from the forum - no notice, no explanation.  Odd that I still can't see the forum from my main computer, even if I delete all cookies - can't believe they'd actually block by IP, too, but who knows.

What jerks.  But as we all know, this sort of censorship is becoming common.  Forums are seen as tools to promote the image of the business, and they're not public so they can do whatever they want.

MSG is a microstock forum, not too much Zazzle interest here; does anyone know of an independent forum devoted to Zazzle and other POD sites?

Don't know of one....you must have said something pretty bad for them to ban you....lol
Maybe you need to talk to Leaf and see if he will help you make up a POD forum devoted to Zazzle and other such sites.

All I can say is they are very talented at running off contributors as well as buyer's. That's about all they know how to do any more. I deleted the biggest majority of my port there last September and have never uploaded since and as soon as I reach payout again I'm deleting the rest of my port. Both Dreamstime and Shutterstock are now making me more than iStock. iStock isn't even worth the trouble any more so I'm moving on.

Perks of working at iStock
Benefits worth bragging about

Competitive base salary and bonus plan.
Health and dental benefits start on Day 1.
Group RRSP matching plan for permanent employees.
Free in-office massages at your desk from our very own masseuse.
Extra health and wellness spending for glasses, snowboards or a gym pass.
Education reimbursement program to support your career related courses.
Healthy drinks and snacks provided daily, as well as an X-Box 360 and a bubble hockey table.
We're flexible, so if you need time off, just talk to us and we'll work it out.

No wonder they need 85% of my royalties. It's no wonder all the people who work there stay there regardless of their moral convictions. "Free in-office massages at your desk from our very own masseuse." Good grief. Even X_Box 360!! They spend more time getting massages and playing X-Box 360 than they do fixing the bugs on the site!

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Cameras are too good!??
« on: December 01, 2011, 13:31 »
It's an "art" thing. There is a cult that that loves the "krappy camera" look. It's been around a long time. There has even been an annual international contest appropriately called the Krappy Camera Contest and Exhibition, somewhat prestigious, for the most "artistic" image taken by a toy, plastic, sub-par, cheap camera (film) that has been run by the Soho Photo Gallery in New York since 1992 (I was a past winner). They state, " We will be searching for extraordinary photographs produced with cameras with lousy lenses." They accept primarily photos taken with a Holga or Diana which are toy plastic cameras with plastic lenses, a Fuji Instax or Ansco, Kodak Brownie or perhaps a pinhole camera. Some digital camera images are allowed if they are modified with a sub-par lens. It's all about the lens. It's a segment of photography that has a lot of followers and today new photographers want the same results quickly without film, which is frankly hard to find and to get processed. Darkrooms are not as accessible these days. Google holga to start and you will get a lot of interesting info. Here are the winners of the last contest - http://www.sohophoto.com/kk13_winners_gallery/index.html

I thought some of those photos were rather interesting just on composition alone regardless of the quality of the lens.

That looks like someone hacked the site seeing how they aren't even calling it iStock......iStache??
Everyone see the same. It wasn't hacked. It crashed with some very serious problems, and they are not able to pick it up from the back-up.

Wonderful....now we'll all be digging trying to find our royalties!

Adobe Stock / Re: Price set back to 1 Credit
« on: November 05, 2011, 12:00 »
This also automatically prices all seasonal images down to 1 credit. Christmas related images can sell a lot in season and them sit dormant for 6 months. I have seasonal images with over 20-30 total downloads that have been set back to 1 credit.

I dumped Fotolia well over a year ago because of their screwy payouts and pricing, but I think that where seasonal images are concerned, those should be an exception. They are just that, Seasonal and don't sell year round and I don't think they should be dropped down to 1 credit.

I've gotten fake ones from FedEx and UPS. The past week it's been about a free iphone that I apparently have won. They now all go to the junk mail folder and then deleted, but it's gotten worse in the past couple of months.

LOL...yeah like they are going to really give you a free iPhone...nothing in this world is free anymore...except maybe iStock's free section.... ;)

You use to be able to opt out of the partner sites on iStock, which is what a lot of submitters...at least the ones on here choose to do, but now you don't have a choice.
