General Stock Discussion / Re: I really need some advice

Have you tried outdoor sessions with your friends or are you just wanting studio shots? Good daylight can make good studio lighting...;)

I don't know why but I like the look about it. It does have a gritty look about it and probably wouldn't sell in microstock, but after looking at the before and after shots, it really adds character to the photo, more so than just the plan portrait.

The caps worked for me too.  I read through that as quickly as I would if it was typed correctly.  I bet I would read it slower if it were morning here.

The only word I had a problem with was IPROAMTNT. All the rest I read right through.

doesn't work so well with capitalized letters

Maybe the caps make you notice the first and last letter faster...I don't know. I don't think I'm going to retype it and see if it works with lower letters...that would take me all day.... :D

What really amazed me was I was able to read through it quicker than I can correctly spelled words... ::)

This guy has an interesting technique. He has a bunch of before and after shoots on flickr. Kinda of interesting to look at if you like trying different things.

thats not street photography, thats nothing, total rubbish.. the guy is just flashing, how absurd really, at least telling them to stop no?? never seen such a ridiculous thing

It's not my favourite style but I doubt anyone would get a good photo in the few minutes this was filmed.  He does have some good stuff, the portraits would look different if he stopped people.

I really like his style. Don't agree with some of his views but his photos tell a story. That to me is good photography.
Here's a link to his flickr page for anyone interested. He has tons of candid shots on there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/thomasleuthard/

He also has a free pdf book that you can download called "Going Candid" Here's the link to it is you're interested

Since I am into internet marketing also, with my own websites... a tool like this would be a dream and a nightmare. You could run some imacro script through proxies against a competing site to go for a higher listing in googles search. It could be used against your site too. I think I would rather this not come to be.

I agree...I could see a competitor using this to their advantage in a negative way. If they were desperate enough I could see them paying some people just to hit the dislike button. When it comes to money... unscrupulousness people will do anything to get the advantage.

Get out of the cities to the country and you will see a big difference, especially in the southern states.

Hey... this is kinda nice.. bigger, brighter and in widescreen...lol  Man does 7 have a different feel than XP. Got all my info transferred. Now for the days of installing programs.  :o

It took me awhile to get use to it. Didn't like it at first but now I'm used to it and if I had to go back to XP I probably wouldn't remember how to do half of it.

You know what I find really interesting? Virtually no American in Texas (and all the states next to the Mexican border or Florida) doesn't speak a word of Spanish. How's that even possible? In my country everybody speaks at least one foreign language and almost everybody living close to the border speaks the other country's language fluently. Doesn't matter wether it's Italian, German, Hungarian, Croatian. I mean you Americans are so business oriented (the American dream!!!), so materialistic, those that don't speak spanish in the areas with large Latin populations are loosing out a lot - coz I know tens of millions of ppl in America don't speak English. Think of all the dollars you're loosing out ;) . I'd like to at least know a few words so I could mess around with neighbours, coworkers, pool cleaners etc ;) .

BTW don't they call you blancos as well?

LOLOL .... That's the point...there are more who don't speak English in America than do.

cllate estpido ...do you know what that means??? Shut Up Stupid....
(disclaimer: This is only a joke!!!!!!!!

I was born in Texas but grew up in the north...I married an Illinois man. When we moved back to Texas he was referred to as an Yankee all the time. Well one of his friends finally figured out how to get them to shut up. He just looked at them and said  "If it wasn't for all us  Yankees, all you Texas would have been Mexicans" They pretty much let it go after that...at least to his face anyway....lol

Do you have any "nice" words for mexicans up there? :D

Didn't mean to offend ya...I know several Mexicans and got nothing against them... ;D

192
Oh and by the way the dow dropped 513 points, worst drop since Oct 2008. That's probably some of the problem.

Looks like I am going to have to break down and buy a new computer.

The other day lightning caused a quick outage and I think it surged into the computer. If I reboot, when it comes to the logon screen... beeps repeatedly and very fast. After I log on, cannot move any desktop icons. Photoshop will not load any photos into it but Lightroom and (just installed to test) GIMP will load up normally. Wiped out PS and then the re installs fail.

Got some other little annoying things happening.

I think it is time to put my old hand built workhorse to rest now. 8 years old and been through many changes and virus wars. Time to move into more modern equipment. sigh  :'(

Sounds like what happened to mine last year...only mine wouldn't even come on period. It fried the cable modem so more than likely came through that. I think it fried the motherboard. I built it back in 05 and when I started checking to see how much it would cost to build another...it wasn't that much more expensive to buy a new one....then I took out my hard drive out of the other for my second HD.

Need help in buying a monitor calibrator. There are a lot out there even by the same manufactures.
What kind do you use?
I was looking at the Spider 3 as well as the i1 system, but don't know if there are better ones out there that don't break the bank.
Which would you recommend?

Ed there is a pdf link on the flickr page you linked to. It is a pdf copy of the wheel that is on that flickr page.. I didn't know if it was the one you were wanting or a different one.

http://www.sakki.net/fileadmin/Sakki.net/Attachments/exposure-wheel.pdf

Ed if you look at the PDF file on the first link...on page one it shows the two rectangular ones, but if you go on down to page two and three you will find the round one that you can connect together which I believe is the one you are referring to..

A very long time ago, iStock had a wiki you could print out and laminate.  It was two circles that when you attach to each other you could match up shutterspeed and aperture.

Don't have a link but maybe another forum member knows what I'm talking about and has a link.

I've done Google searches and can't find it.  It's something similar to this....

General Photography Discussion / F-Stop and Shutterspeeds
« on: July 28, 2011, 12:30 »
I found this on the internet and thought it was rather interesting especially for those of you who don't understand how different f-stops and shutterspeeds can produce the same exposure. A lot of photographers go by what the camera says and don't realize that there are combinations that work just as well.

Of course you need to have the auto ISO off and set to where you want it.

http://www.uscoles.com/exposures.pdf

Here's a website that explains the Zone system to help with proper exposure. Again it is helpful if you are having problems with understanding exposure and how it effects the final picture.

So you can't open up files that are on another hard drive?? I have all my photos on my second hard drive and I don't see where you can go to open these. Anyone know if this is possible?
