Actually my account was left open, unknown to me. They changed my user name from donding to dondingClosed. I have over a $100.00 balance even. I didn't know until I found one of my images through tineye that my account was still open and that they had changed my user name. A lot of them they left deactivated. I haven't contacted them yet. Hopefully I'll have time later this week.

I've got photos on thinkstock from my "supposed to be closed account" at iStock. I can't pull them up with my user name or real name. The only way I can pull them up is by their item number on my "supposed to be closed account" on iStock. I can't log in at all.
They are all on Photos.com also...same story...can't log in

They are on Thinkstock also. How do I get them off of there?

So is this a one-off glitch or something more persistent? If the latter, then it could potentially be a huge problem.
All I know is that I deactivated all my files and then ask that they close my account. Hence the user name dondingCLOSED. I would have never found it if I hadn't done a tineye search. I haven't even checked on Thinkstock to see if they are also on there. I don't have time for all this crap. The more I think about it the madder I get. I don't even remember how to do anything on there. Where do I go to see the payment settings so I can see if they even still have it linked to my paypal account?

I just went back and checked...because I thought there were more files on there than what is shown now. The non sellers they left deactivated. I started deactivating the non sellers first and then worked my way up.

Believe me I was shocked. I was finally able to log in under my e-mail address. I was able to put them in a shopping cart and go as far as checkout. Of course I didn't check out. I remember when I requested they close my account after I got payout and then there was a small bal...like $3.00 and I requested they pay me that to, but never heard back from them. Then I wasn't able to log in after that. I didn't make a big deal about it because I just wanted off there. Now I know why I couldn't log in because they changed the account name, but at the time I assumed the account was closed because I couldn't log in. I haven't contacted them yet. I'm afraid if I go back and deactivate all those files again they will turn around and change the name again. As a matter of fact when I initially deactivated the files there was one left. It wouldn't let me deactivate the last one so I contacted them about it and told them the problem I was having and requested they close my account. They told me no problem they would take care of it. I guess I need to go in and see if the financial information is still right. I'm still in shock. Those A-HOLES!!!

I was just doing a tineye search on some of the pictures I've sold on Shutterstock. I found matches to my deleted port on iStock!!! They are even still being offered for sale. My whole port is still on there. I dropped them over a year ago!! I couldn't log in as donding...they changed it to dondingCLOSED. I even have a balance of over $100 there. I went through and deleted my whole port one by one. This really PO's me. You might want to check to see if they still have you on there as "your user name CLOSED" If I had not never did a tineye check, I wouldn't have even known they owed me money or that they still had my port up!!!

I am collecting research on the availability of photos I can't seem to find very many of at most stock sites: candid shots of everyday people - minorities, homeless, low-income, developmentally challenged, etc. And if I do find some photos of minorities they're immaculate shiny happy people wearing white and perfectly composed. There aren't that many realistic photos out there - everything I find is posed, smiling and conceptually unbelievable.
I would like to know if you, as microstock photographers, ever take photos of these forgotten that you just haven't submitted to the current providers? Do you have a large catalog of these photos you want to submit but the current websites reject them?
Do you know there is a demand for this kind of diversity?
Would you shoot more of these kinds of models?
What are the issues you've encountered if you've tried it before?
Thanks! Rana
I think the reason you don't find to many of these on stock sites is because they are not big sellers. Most people who buy stock photos, like those happy smiling people you refer to. Some people like the more realistic candid shots, but they are few and far between. Then you do run into the problem with model releases, especially with a homeless person. What is your intended use? You mentioned commercial, but in what context?

I do both, but Zazzle is much better. Art of Business Cards generates income but not like Zazzle. I use to upload a lot to ABC, but then I got on Zazzle and the money is so much better. I haven't uploaded to ABC in over a year but I get sales there every month.
The thing about ABC is you have to save the files as tif before you can upload. Then you have to choose from their layout that best works with the card and put a description and category. Their card size is different than Zazzle so it's hard to do the same design for both. I would upload more if they were the same size.

I haven't uploaded in forever, but I always get sales there. Not a lot of money, but usually make anywhere from $60.00 to $70.00 every month.
I make a ton more off Zazzle and if they were both the same template size I'd probably upload more, but their process to get the file ready is a pain. They gotta be a tif file, not jpeg. Some of my bestsellers on Zazzle won't even work with their predetermined temp layouts. I wish they would let us do our own layout. Using one of theirs on a design that doesn't work with it, even if the customer can change it...does not look good. First impressions are always the best.
Maybe they will see this and listen to our suggestions.

Are you guys talking abt the same sean that discovered the getty/google deal (or brought it to everyones attention) and then instigated the whole Feb 2 thing and then he wrote the script to make it easy for us all to deactivate out picures from istock?
is that the sean you are all talking about?
(I only read the first6pages of this thread)
Yes it is the same Sean, but he did not instigate the Feb 2nd thing.

Sean has always stood up for what is right and he has always done so in a professional manner. What Getty has done is not at all professional. To me they are acting like high school bullies.
If this doesn't make the few exclusives waiting to see the sun on the horizon realize it's always gonna be a cloudy day then I don't know what would.
Good luck to you Sean. It'll be rough but hang in there you can overcome this.

I'm fairly new there, and haven't sold anything yet, but do all of you promote your images through facebook or twitter? I don't have a bunch of people, mainly just family, on my facebook page and I don't do twitter, so how do you get the traffic? I'm afraid my friends and family wouldn't like it if I used my facebook page.

One thing about FAA...they have a very nice forum....unlike another "unnamed" forum...lol
I just recently joined and so far nothing has sold, but I have not marketed anything either. I want to get everything built up before I do that. The people in the forum are very helpful and very nice. It's a much more relaxed atmosphere.

Sounds to me like Getty/Google is trying to get as many on there as they can, as quickly as they can. That's moving pretty fast. What next?

History repeating itself. Kinda of a scary thought. Hopefully with the actions of the photographers this time it won't repeat itself again at Getty or any of the other agencies which I am sure are watching this situation very closely.
