StockXpert.com / Re: Thinkstock earnings posted
« on: December 11, 2010, 12:39 »
Oh *! I logged into StockXpert before I read this thread, and thought Christmas had come early! I requested a payment straight away, and now I realize I won't be getting it.  :(

I hope we get good news from FD soon, but meanwhile we may entertain ourselves with fun theories.  Maybe be is actually Julian Assange?   ;D

You do make me laugh!!  ;D ;D

Print on Demand Forum / Re: greetingcarduniverse anyone?
« on: December 04, 2010, 03:36 »
Thank you. It took a few years! A lot of the cards are repeats with just the age on the front changed. As i said before, its the verse that is important and I am not brilliant at poetry.  :(

Did you put verses inside your cards? They do not sell very well without verses, and the verse is harder to do than the picture!

My shop: http://www.greetingcarduniverse.com/supercards

I am doing OK there, not a great part of my income but every little helps!

You could try Panthermedia. They are not in the top rank, but sales are regular.

Why don't you work in CMYK from the start? That way you know what you are getting.

I'm in too.  :)

Sales over the last three month have been great. They are doing something right! Not too many sub sale either.

Print on Demand Forum / Re: Cafepress worth the time?
« on: November 08, 2010, 03:52 »
Yes, cafepress pay for it, but other sites offering the same service give the artists 20% or more, and don't have a monthly charge for selling on the site. They are like istock, wanting to keep all the cash for themselves.

I just took a look. They give only 10% and also charge you for having a shop! I think I will give them a miss for now.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Deactivating files on IS
« on: November 06, 2010, 12:52 »
I have started deleting the poor sellers, and I will not upload anything new ever again. The good sellers I am going to delete in January. I think a lot more people are going to do the same.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Monopod
« on: September 27, 2010, 02:21 »
I use a monopod a lot, but not for stock. I like to shoot landscapes just for pleasure. I use a5d mkII, and with the lens on it is heavy.(I am an average sized woman, with not particularly strong arms). The monopod takes the weight and gives the right amount of steadiness.
I have tried lightweight tripods as Hawkeye suggested, but the lightest ones just wobble too much. They have less stability than the carbon monopod, and take longer to put up. The shot I remember missing was a circling eagle over the Welsh mountains. It was flying in a valley level with me (I was on a hill). It shot away just as I got the tripod ready. I should have shot hand-held, but knew I would not get a good shot. After that I stuck with monopods.
In my search for the perfect solution, I have collected eight tripods and three monopods!

So it will sit there forever? :-/

I have had these a few times. they sit there for a while, then disappear.

Adobe Stock / Re: How to boost DLS from Fotolia?

On sites where I have reviewed every file was 'weighted' by the reviewers, and the contributors were not told about it.

« on: September 13, 2010, 12:29 »
Slightly OT (my apologies), but I am wondering for what period of time Mr. Bruce's no compete clause was for?

Maybe it is high time that 'Bitter' got back into the game and give Getty a black eye.

So he can sell us down the river again in a few years time?

« on: August 31, 2010, 07:22 »
Congratulations to Duncan and the staff at Canstock. This was one of the first sites I joined and I have always liked them.

Come on Duncan, raise the subs commission in celebration!  ;)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Poor Image Hygiene
« on: August 28, 2010, 00:45 »
Same rejection for me at IS on one image. I now use my Giotto rocket air blower to clear the area....saves time in post.....and I never used the thing for anything else anyway.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. Thats a good tip, thanks.

Off Topic / Re: Will Yellowstone erupt any time soon?
« on: August 25, 2010, 05:44 »
PRO:
1 - a great cure for global warming
2 - fantastic sunsets by the ashes in the atmosphere
3 - 95% of all microstock photographers are killed - more room for you, more room for me
4 - great photo-op with a good tele - try video too
5 - no plane hijackings since no flights any more - use abandoned planes as props
6 - yellowstone park pictures become priceless on stock

CONTRA:
1 - 95% of all microstock buyers are killed - less sales for you, less sales for me
2 - more sensor dust when changing lenses
3 - "magma chamber explosion" over-abundant category on stock
4 - model girls with headset difficult to find

Don't worry, be happy  ;D

Brilliant! ;D

I would love to know what that book is! I am starting to notice the odd pain in the wrist and forearm when I use the mouse, and it's worrying.

I was expecting the vast majority to be between 20 and 30. You guys come across as young!  ;)

I have a 90 birthday party invitation that has had 65 sales. If you search on 90th birthday party invitation, one of my cards that has never had a sale appears halfway down the page, and the card with 65 sales cannot be seen! Very odd.

The BBC in the UK has similar terms of entry. I have been urged by friend to enter, but would not give my pictures away so easily.

Bigstock.com / Re: Is BigStock dying?
« on: June 09, 2010, 23:41 »
Bigstock has always been a steady site for me. It earns me about as much as Istock, but way behind Shutterstock and Fotolia. I get regular (but not spectacular) sales there. May was the best month for ages.
