Veer / Re: How is veer with vectors?
« on: April 20, 2011, 23:25 »
Hey, good to hear your files have been approved. IMO, they have the best earning potential among the middle tier sites, this year.

mine has gone down to $0.91 from an average of $1.10

Bigstock.com / Re: Publising photos to BS is such a pain
« on: April 12, 2011, 20:28 »
Anyone shares such view?

They have to learn from Veer or Can Stock. Just upload and hit another one or two buttons. No category. No 7 words description and tortuous routes to publish a file after FTP uploading. All microstock sites should think of making it easier for photographers to upload instead of making more works for us.

I'm thinking of stopping uploading to BS in view of the low returns from it. I can use the time saved creating new works instead.

We may think it's great to upload to 7 or 8 sites. But only the top 4 makes it worthwhile for our time. I am coming to the the view that less is more.

What do you think?

I think when you're just starting out, less is more. Concentrate on top selling sites and grow your portfolio by adding new and quality content. However, once you've grown your collection (probably in the couple of thousands at least), then you can expand your horizons to other sites just so you don't miss out on potential sales revenue.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Search results - which sites best?
« on: April 12, 2011, 20:11 »
for illustrations, especially when you search using the "images" category at google, canstockphoto ranks very high. for some reason, clipartof are always well represented on the first page as well.  And then the usuals, shutterstock, 123rf and istock.

same here, sales revenue and downloads have been continuously dropping versus last year's, the worst being last month at 33%.

I've done this before due to a personal emergency. i was out of action for 6 weeks between March and April 2010, no uploading at all. I am an illustrator and have been doing microstock since 2007. I have a large portfolio at IS, at that time about 2000 vectors and between 3,000 to 4,000 in the other sites. There was no drop in downloads and revenues. in fact,  i was still able to grow by about 20% over previous year.  i think if you are already established and have a large portfolio, you most probably have a regular clientele and stopping to upload in the interim would not dent your sales.

Congrats on your sale! I sold 2 SR-EL-Licence during the last 4 years.

With sales in a variety of products and subjects, I didn't find any niche yet.  ;D
your market niche could be your photographic style or if your an illustrator your art/graphic style/genre or something like that.

I've been there 14 months, so it's not enough to give up the day job (if I had one!), and I didn't really know what I was doing for the first 6 months, i.e. putting photos on products and hoping they'd sell. It takes a while to find your niche, but maybe stock photographers (I'm not one) have a head start there.

thanks for sharing. i guess being able to identify a market niche that is not fully saturated products will be a great benefit in any business.

no sale yet, started this month there.. review is quite fast like 1 day but my last is on 5 days! :P

I think I got my first sale after about 1000 images and at least six months. I'd have to look.

Fortunately for me, I have never had a novel use purchase. (yet?)

i got my first sale there after 18 months with 250 images. i told myself back then that i wouldn't add any images until i get a sale. now with 1,500 images, i have about half a dozen sale every other month, but most of them are novell use purchase.

When does one reach PRO status? Is it three months making a $100,- each month or just reaching $100.- in total? I have read both.

It's $100 earnings total, which most agree is a bit low. They'll only be 'inviting' new prosellers quarterly, so maybe things will happen at the end of March, if they make it April, I might just make bronze - no great shakes but at least you get a pack of free business cards.

wow, that's cool! how long did it take you to get to bronze, if you don't mind?

just curious, when you reach a certain amount to qualify in the zazzle pro seller program, do you need to apply or is it by invitation?

I love Zazzle!

I'm $10 away from becoming a PRO seller and I've only just joined in August last year.  If anyone wants to follow what I'm up to on facebook and other things, you can see my page at:

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sunny-Mars-Designs/150453311638512

I usually post some of my sales and my latest products and share thoughts with other designers about zazzle issues.

If you have a fan page as well, I'd be happy to follow it as I do a lot of promoting as well as selling my own products.

Cheers!

I've just finished uploading my library of niche illustrations in my own free site at avidimages. I have also changed it to point to my own domain name. The process is just so easy and the layout is clean and simple yet so professional.

69
Ive been trying out and playing around with the free site and it it looks good so far and very easy to navigate. Are we able to change the banner/header? i tried uploading my own banner (940 wide), but it doesn't seem to work.
You need to refresh the cache your browser has, press Ctrl+F5 when you are viewing your site on a PC and i think its Command + R on a Mac.

Thanks for the quick response. So far, this site is giving me good impressions with a clean layout and very easy to navigate.

that's a good concept. i've signed up for the free site and will probably use this to sell and promote my niche images.

that's true. sellers will be hounding and bugging the buyers trying to sell direct, cutting off the agencies.

I agree with you. Microstock is all about commercial success. It's "design trumps art "in my opinion.

it is a good sign that you're being noticed within your niche. personally, i would explore the idea of a direct business relationship with them.
