iStockPhoto.com / Re: How do you upload to iSTOCK ?
« on: December 22, 2006, 18:25 »
Hi fleitao, and welcome!

I upload one by one, but they have a plug-in, maybe someone else can help you regarding it.

Once a picture is uploaded, it still takes at least 10 minutes per picture to check all the keywords and create the categories.  Quite a burden when we compare this to the easy upload ride at other sites.

Fortunately, as a non-exclusive, the upload limit per week is 15, so it's a relief not to feel guilty to upload more... ;)

Hope this helps.

For the SS contributors interested, lilcrazyfuzzy is preparing a Xmas card to present to the SS team.  Here is the link if you wish to be addded.  No downloading of the card anymore, too many signatures  :)

Same shared studio I suppose?

We may see much more of that in February 07 with the Rinder photo seminar gathering in Califirnia, where about 30-40 people will have the opportunity to shoot a few hired models.  Hhhhhmmmm...

The new discoveries in digital technology along with the changes of fashion trends and habits may render them obsolete for designers sooner than later.  But I still think that people with personal interests will still buy them in the long run.  We'll see.

Hi Tom, since Chad didn't write his email in his profile, I PM'd it to you.  Even though you may not have an answer until tomorrow, it will enable you to email him tonight.

A few weeks ago, I received an email approving a picture which had been approved about 6 months ago.  I suppose that it went in the wrong email and thus wasn't credited as a sale, but I didn't report it.  I thought that for one picture it wasn't worth the energy.  But I can see that things can be mixed-up.  That was a little bug following me once...

I hope that they can resolve your situation quickly so that this bigger bug which follows your account disappears soon.

Very nice picture Sandralise.  I waited for quite a while before joining.  They are very nice and friendly people, the presentation is unusually light and fresh for the microstock style, and the group seems quite solid and professional.  They like what they do, share it with simplicity, and one feels it.  I hope that they will succeed so that we can enjoy and share their success too.  I have reached the 5 download number, not that much, but I hope that people will do more than visiting my portfolio (1814 views, and growing every day).

Thanks Bateleur, my husband is very pleased.  Funny, the picture of the day is the aurora borealis.  We were watching the Northern Lights last night, lights turned off in our garden in Iowa, once every couple of years they actually get this far South.

Here is the final word:

We can accept illustrations and vectors of the British pound symbol and other currency symbols, but we cannot accept any photos or scans of English currency, both paper and coin.

If you had an image deleted that was not a British pound note or coin, you may reupload it with a note to the reviewer.

Again, sorry for the confusion, but this is the rule.

Caveman,  thank you! I showed the astronomy link to my husband (he is a geologist by training), and it will be on his daily bookmarks, he enjoyed it a lot.   I also went to your website.  Very nice.

February 2nd 2006, SS was my 1st site.
My son strongly encouraged me to submit and to learn, and I got hooked...  he used to submit (portrait photography), but doesn't have time to do it these days.

« on: December 12, 2006, 10:04 »
are you guys seeing the google add when you are logged in?  it is just supposed to be there when guests visit.

My mistake, the google ad doesn't show when logged in.

The new layout transformation is much better !

Another suggestion for the 1st page: the 'posted by' should be the thread starter name with the title 'started by', and the name of the last person to post can be with the date column, with a new title 'last post'.  It is the same kind of setting that you already have in the specific forum pages, and it looks great.

Tyler, it is very nice to see that you are doing things to improve the site.  The appearance is much better.  I like the pictures on top too, very refreshing.
I have a few suggestions:

- have the same details as in the forums themselves for the posts, doesn't matter the presentation as long as it's clear:
Subject     Started by     Replies     Views     Last post
The 'started by' is a very nice addition.  The emphasis should be on the subject of the topic.  The topic column could be wider on the 1st page, it looks crowded right now.

- have a clearer separation between each topic

- keep the option for adding a topic on the first page without having to open some more pages.  I like to have everything handy at first glance.  The old version was well organized for that.

- same thing for the other options which were on the left, which enable to go directly straight to a forum page by stock site if we wanted.  An improvement would be to list all the active stock sites, with one forum page for each.

- if it's possible, have the google ad on the bottom (or at the bottom of one column if the bottom spot isn't possible), it will widen the screen for your own use for more options if necessary.

- one thing that could be added is for the photographers to add their portfolio links in their profile, so that the links can be easily accessible for other members (instead of adding it in the signature)

That's it...  ;)  Thanks!

agree too  :)

Regarding downloads, for me SX has slightly more, but in terms of revenues it's about the double.  So yes, I agree... in a sense: the 'Big 5' list bothers me (right now I experience a 'Big 2'), I would prefer to have the list of the top 10 legit and dynamic stock sites, with a reevaluation once in a while.  My list would include:

SS - IS - FL - DT - SX - BS - 123rf - FP - CS - LO

my 2 cents

Ha !    ;D
Does it rain a lot in Santa Cruz ?  If they were in Chicago, wind turbines would be the choice I suppose...

Thinking about the announcement, I thought that apologizing for the reviewing delay when they usually review the pictures within 24 hours, and making this announcement within this 24h frame should be a source of inspiration for most of the other sites.

Hi David / Litifeta !

I had seen these puzzle pictures somewhere and was impressed with their qualities.  I am sure that you'll have plenty of sales with such creative presentation.  Yes, I agree, very nice portfolio.  Well begun is half done !

I thought that we could see the DT link through here at the top, maybe it doesn't work anymore.  I am registered at about a dozen sites, but SS brings me 1/3 of all the stock revenues.

I didn't put the links in my signature... yet.

I tried to find a kink on the left for FP, but there is none, although at this point it generates for me 10 times more than LO and  SSP (I am not at GimmeStock...),  Tyler, could you add one please?  They really deserve a spot.  Even if the sales are slow, they are steady, the site is well taken cared of, and the spirit is good.  Thanks.

On their site this morning there was an announcement about  their solar power backup which was put in use successfully, I really appreciate this kind of information.  Here it is:

power outage and SOLAR SYSTEM BACK-UP
FeatureImage, Elena
on 12/9/2006

We always were aware ot the fact that solar panels are an excellent solution for generating power to run our servers.

A power outage that began about 6:00 pm, friday, December 8, left most of the downtown Santa Cruz without lights.

FeaturePics.com (our main servers are in Santa Cruz) was responding...

YES!!!! WE HAVE SOLAR SYSTEM BACK-UP!:)

Having solar system back-up will be a requirement for all our future server expansion as we go forward.

SORRY FOR THE REVIEWING DELAY.

Passion has an advertisement in big colored letters at the bottom of every page on this site for the unlogged users.  Leaf, are you getting paid by them, or did you put it yourself ?  If you don't have anything to do with it, I guess they know where to place their ad to reach the photographers...

Has the site (bought by an Australian) been re-opened under a different name, or has it become a private collection purchase ?  I am still wondering what happened to all the portfolios everyone left there...
Any clues ?

Hi Indigo.  There is no reason why anyone would need a thick skin to come on this forum.  I come here to get informed, expecting a place which tends to be as neutral and as transparent as possible for me to have some relevant info and adjust accordingly.  People shouldn't be afraid to express themselves if it helps that process.  I like this place, because I don't waste time to go to each forum site and sort through so many 'chat' threads where it's easy to get hooked up and a day could go by without shooting.

I don't mind at all photographers being exclusive on IS at all, to each one their preferences.  I noticed that the pictures I am selling the most at IS are of course the ones with the most exposure, either with the added five-star ratings, or chosen by some very friendly exclusives who decided to add them in their own galleries.  And I am very grateful for this.  Since I don't have a 'creative network' nor any friends who could add some ratings to personally help me, I just go with the flow of my good fortune, and I definitely appreciate the extra income IS gives me every month.

All the best to you,
madeleine

Coming back to the main topic, in a sense I really appreciate the upload restriction at this point.  If I would have the choice to upload more than 2 pictures a day with IS with their new keyword system added to the non-FTP upload, I would lose my patience....
