Off Topic / Re: Do you need glasses? I got mine CHEAP!
« on: June 25, 2009, 00:02 »
Ok went to the site with my experience in the eyeglass field +20 years last 10 as a optical lab manager. Great prices on the frames considering that most of what I saw would cost about $ 2.00. Lenses they are as cheap as $ 1.25 wholesale for single vision lenses when you buy about 100 pairs per month [my orders are usally about 500 pairs every two weeks] I can imagen they probably pay about .50 cents per pair. So at $8.00 for single vision they are still making a small amount but like microstock is the quantity that counts. My only problem is the seg height of the bifocals and the multifocals [progressives] there is where you will find some problems. Let me explain for those that have not yet gone into the realm of having too short of reach to see near.
They will take the vertical measuremt of the frame and follow a general guide of
going about 4 mm of the center to place the bifocal and about 2 mm for the progressive lens. This means that if your nose is a bit wide the general guide will give you the add power to close to your distance vision causing problems. And this will be worse in the progressive which needs to be measured by someone looking at you with the frames placed on your face to get the exact point of reference to be able to place the distance portion on center of your pupil not where it might fall when your glasses come in from the lab. Just a warning the single vision seems fine but be careful on the other lenses.
Man that was too much especially since I'm on vacation  ;D

This is from the FQ
When will I be paid?
Once you make $10 in royalties, you will be paid forty five days following the calendar month in which the amount licensed exceeds $10. For example, if your royalty balance is $250 at 06/30/2007, you will receive the full $250 on  08/15/07. If you make royalties in July this will accumulate and go towards your next payment.  If your balance never exceeds $10, you will receive your royalties forty five (45) days following the end of the calendar year

This is what is written above your monthly statements
SnapVillage makes royalty payments on the last day of every month, so long as you have a minimum balance of $10.00. Balances of less than $10.00 roll over into the next month. Click on a year and then a month to view details or print a statement.

The Math is not adding up for me on this. Either they make the payment at the end of the month or forty five days after you sell more than 10.00 ???
I'm also waiting for my May payment, maybe it will come at the end of July making it 60 days instead of 45 ???  Where is Brian from SV when you need him?

General Stock Discussion / Re: Will you or Won't you??
« on: July 16, 2008, 10:03 »
It seems to me that we as contributors believe that everytime a new site opens there are thousands of new designers/buyers also created to go along with the new site. Buyers that have never seen or bought the images that we have already on other sites. But that would be almost impossible wouldn't you think? After two years selling in the top 6 sites and adding a small amount of images a month what designer has not seen my work?
It would be wise I guess to stop chasing this new site that promises the world to us and just concentrate on the ones that have consistently produced the sales.
Also if there is a limited amount of buyers why would they jump ship to a new site if they are getting there needs met on the older sites?
There is a thing called loyalty, and if it isn't broken why fix it.
I manage an Optical Lab and every month I get calls from new vendors trying to get the foot in the door. I always answer the same thing to them: If you are doing a good job would you want met to stop buying from you just because someone comes along dropping the price by a dollar or two?

Jorge

If you have Created new Pseudonyms and changed your images to reflect these changes, it will likely be 24 hours before the changes are reflected in your measures.

I have 11 Pseudonyms and I can see them all from measures, when I moved mine the statistics moves as well, this is to stop people moving images to change the ranking, but remember Alalmy only update once a day.

David  ;D

Thank you for your response I guess I need to contact support since I created and moved the images on Sunday. Maybe I did something wrong.
Thanks again
Jorge

I think of Pseudonyms like my own galleries or Albums.

I have a number of Pseudonyms this helps me manage and group images in the same categories, and I can see what Image types are popular and getting views, so if your name was "John Smith"  you can create Pseudonyms like "John Smith - Formula 1", "John Smith - Toddlers", "John Smith - Lifestyle", "John Smith - Adventure" etc:, this can also help buyers looking for similars.

David

David I tried doing what you suggest but now I only see one pseudo on the measures page. How do you switch from one to another to see the stastics of each pseudo.

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT keyword issue
« on: June 08, 2008, 22:00 »
If you have a very unique image probably it will be difficult to find much in the way of keywords to copy. But if you have an image of lets say a girl holding a cell phone while seated in front of a computer ;D what could you possibly not copy even if you didn't look a the other photographers image?

I use this site all of the timehttp://arcurs.com/keywording/

Saves time, less spelling to check. But it becomes hard to use when your image is very unique. Like this one:http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-3033640-elote-cooked-on-a-street-corner-in-chiapas-mexico.html

No moral issue with this service since the list given is not from one picture but a group of images from different photographers. Most of the time I probably could have come up with the words myself, very few unique or original words. This is still stock photography not original from the depth of your soul  :D art. Yes there is original thought involved but taking a picture of a plate of mashed potatoes with gravy on top is not deep thought is it? Is not advancing the intellectual level of human kind to the next level is it? So why get all uptight about keywords? Webster still has a book full of words that can be used, right? In a way if a whole series of images of the same concept come up on a search because they have identical keywords might be a good thing since the playing field is leveled and the best image for that concept will pop out. It wouldn't be because of original keywords but because its a great image.

Just might thoughts.

Bigstock.com / Re: New revievers
« on: May 31, 2008, 21:09 »
Of the nine agencies I've signed up with in the last few months, BigStock is by far the least impressive. Un-user friendly website interface (everything seems hidden), very bad over-compressed thumbnails and previews with color leached out, super long review times. I'm ready to dump them already. Should I give them six months?

I have done good a BigStock, give them the time.

17
Even if allowed it would seem to be more of a waste of time to keep something like that going. I mean most buyers seem to work using keywords for what they are looking for. Why would they want to spend time looking through individual portofolios that might have a thousand images on it? Lightboxes and galleries seems more reasonable.

Discusin en Espaol / Re: Se puede vivir de esto?
« on: May 29, 2008, 21:32 »

Mine has four parts to it:

The yellow background is a blur of the hotel room that I stay in Mexico City on the way to the Church in Chiapas.

The Mountain Lion on the upper left is a sculpture found in Mexico City

The Catholic Church on the right is in San Cristobal de las Casas a city high in the mountains of Chiapas.

And last the dog was running across the front of the Church that I'm helping build in Chiapas. I go there every other month to preach while a pastor is found for that congregation.

I placed them all together and in a way it reminds me of Mexico every time I see it.

I found one of my been used by a magazine which has an article on Chiapas Mexico. My is the image of the old mayan woman. Made my day to see this. ;D
